Lots of high tech industry headquartered in the Southern US yet the country and the world still believes we're all just a bunch of toothless hillbillies.

Actually, Huntsville became "Rocket City" long before 1969. The "Jupiter-C" from Redstone Arsenal paved the way to space. Per the Wikipedia article on the Jupiter-C, "September 20, 1956: lifted an 86.5-lb (39.2 kg) payload (including a 30-lb (14 kg) dummy satellite) to an altitude of 680 mi (1,100 km), a speed of 16,000 mph (7 km/s), and a range of 3,300 mi (5,300 km) from Cape Canaveral, Florida. A related Juno-1 booster was used to launch Explorer-I into orbit on January 31, 1958.

It’s a party town, so everybody gets trapped in the probation loop. 4 major colleges: University of Alabama at Huntsville, Drake University, Alabama A&M University, Calhoun Community College.

Calling Von Braun a Nazi is misleading. The Nazis had imprisoned him for not following the doctrine, then released him for his skills. Just like the Americans overlooked his past when we hired him and his staff. Weak reporting, Smithsonian.

They only said he has "Nazi sympathies," which is probably true.

Which Russians sorry to hear the country didnt work out. It was a global effort to make it to a T off on the moon where that russians patch lays burried by maybe 4 micro metorites and a flag blown 200 meters away from lift off lol The space race was voyager and voyager 2 making it out of the gravity influence of the sun into interstellar space. Cute idea but always looking for better feel free if allowed to listen to the sun from the parker solar probe.
