  • This is an overview of the setting, system, and approach to play for this compelling adaptation of the Blade Runner films' interpretation of the Philip K. Dick novel, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep for RPG play using the Year Zero rules from Free League Publishing. This Blade Runner RPG license is set between the original film and the sequel (Blade Runner 2049). A companion video is also on the channel providing an unboxing of the Rep-Detect bundle which includes the Starter Set, Game Runner Screen, and Core Rules.

    Best review you have done to date (an opinion in no way influenced by your choice to open with your co-host, Coby). :)
    Jokes aside, great overview, Anthony, thanks for sharing it!

      Coby really seems to understand the role. Such pathos! Thanks for watching. I got almost everyone into the video except for Tim and Bailey. 5 out of 7 isn't bad, I guess~

    Excellent review. My group and I got our KS packages right on Christmas and will kick off our campaign soon. After running Alien for almost two years all of us are pretty much married to the YZ engine. Anyway...."you did a man's job" Mister. Your effort with your presentations is much appreciated, even in Germany.

    The book is, of course, so much better than the film, but the original film is very good and stands on its own as a lightly "inspired by" adaptation. Ripe setting for gaming, I certainly imagine many more things to do than just play policemen. There's a whole world out there to imagine that the film barely acknowledges. Does the RPG give us much more than metro L.A.?

    • @Runeslinger
      @Runeslinger  Před rokem +2

      Not yet. The core rules are very specific about being blade runners and about certain large sectors of 2037 LA. It's a fully-contained product, which I appreciate. Lots of room to expand, but there is no need to buy more~

      @@Runeslinger Yes, Combat can be lethal real quick! It’s a thinker’s game. Game Runners should concentrate on the case file being super interesting and intense. Player Immersion is beyond important here!

    Love the review and unboxing videos here. Great breakdown with the second (this video). Love the MY0 mechanics over all. Unfortunately Free League leaned hard into mood setting with the books, the same thing they did with the Alien Rpg. While a part of me can appreciate the artistic design, the readability/usability of the books being dark like this leaves a lot to be desired. :(

    • @Runeslinger
      @Runeslinger  Před rokem +2

      It's true. I get inspired and encouraged to play by flipping through the pages, no question - but there are a lot of gamers who will find these books much harder to use. Aging eyes, reading apps, color blindness, and the variety, capability, and size of whatever e-reader a person might have for the PDF all make these choices become a challenge for people.

    Listen, this video was already going to get a Like from me, but I had to stop everything and just click on it after that intro.
    EDIT: I'm very much looking forward to a (near, not distant) future review and analysis! And actual plays, and all that, with players immersed in generous amounts of Vangelis, Zimmer, and some drops of Tangerine Dreams.

    Great video! I look forward to my experience with this gem. I'm a big Blade Runner IP fan. I'm a big fan of the MYZ system. I think BR would be a brilliant 1 GM and 1 Player game as well.

      I think they have given us a lot of space to color and create inside the clear lines the core rules provide. I am very pleased with it. It will definitely be easy to use for small groups or single character games, for sure. Lots of space for meaningful sessions~
      Did you pick it up?

    Excellent video, as always… that first subject is probably not a replicant. Maybe. But the second one looked reeally guilty! 😂😂. Okay, serious question: 1) given the source material,and the emphasis on theme, what would you say the number of players should be? Would it work well with 1 GM and 1 player only? Given the setup, I would guess it should work well with 1 GM and 2 detectives… partners assigned to investigate a crime. Maybe throw in a 3rd player as a a replicant cop being assigned to them as a test. 1 GM, 3 players.. question 2) when are you running this for us? Who is playing the replicant cop and why is it @ivanmike1968 ?

    • @Runeslinger
      @Runeslinger  Před rokem +2

      Grace is quite the actress, isn't she?
      Preference will play a role in group size, for sure, as will the influence of the source material. I might prefer to run the game with 1 to 3 characters, but another might prefer more or fewer. The text has sections on time and resource pressures, as well as on splitting the group to deal with them. It doesn't have to be a small group, but some might want to get more or less uninterrupted as their character in their job~

    • @Runeslinger
      @Runeslinger  Před rokem +1

      I think @ivanmike1968 is pretty excited to run it, too. The question is, does he want to run it more than play it, or play it more than run it? I am game for play-by-post or live. I think online, a group of 2 characters would be good - with some guest appearances by other blade runners in the unit for tough cases.

    I would say that Blade Runner film the original, not the overrated snorefest sequel, is kind of accurate to about a third of the book. I like how the book deals with people deals with people and a religion based on Siphius?) pushing rock uphill. The other aspect that's emphasized in the book is that getting off the world is super hard, the film NEVER gives that impression.
    Lets hope that the RPG doesn't make the people or characters superheroes as Dick wrote extensively about the everyman, the average Joe, fallible and human

    • @Runeslinger
      @Runeslinger  Před rokem

      I find much of the everyman in my character and felt the challenge and sacrifice of reaching for excellence during chargen - in comparison to the Nexus 9 especially~
