    3:50 China didn't force FB, Google and the rest of US companies to sell their shares to Chinese companies like what the US is forcing Tiktok to do. China only asked what the US have already made Tiktok do which was to move all their servers for US data to be housed in US and controlled by an US company Oracle. That's the difference. What the US congress is ask for is essentially colonialism mentality, you got something we want so we just going to take it from you.

    Reason 3: China banned US apps because those companies don’t want to host data centers in China, TikTok has data center in US.

      The Chinese government has full access to American data no matter where it’s hosted. I heard there’s one recent law enforcement case involving an employee who tried to fly back to China with a bag full of burned DVDs with user data.
      They don’t want the same to happen to Chinese user data with the US, since it’s impossible to have sufficient quality of service without access to that data, and the only way the Party feel they can “protect” its subjects from the outside is to isolate them altogether.

    • @youtubeMyspaceGoogleYourYahoo
      @youtubeMyspaceGoogleYourYahoo Před 20 dny

      @@doujinflip Being concerned about data is legitimate, but his point is still correct. This isn't an apples to apples comparison. China gave a reasonable option, US just went from 0 - 100. Additionally all apps that go into the Apple and Google play store has to go through a review. Which means we could of also went down the route of regulation and do something like no unnecessary user data can get sent up

    I read an article on USA Today that claimed TikTok collects browsing history, facial ID, texts, voice prints, location data, and photos. I can see this data being used against US officials or military personal; however, I am not sure if this affects the average American.

    • @youtubeMyspaceGoogleYourYahoo
      @youtubeMyspaceGoogleYourYahoo Před 20 dny

      I think it's fair to ban TikTok for those who work in government. It will most likely not affect the average American all that much. However I think it is fair to be concerned when anyone collects data from you. But it's really telling when the US goes from 0 - 100 demanding a ban. They could regulation the situation but instead they just go straight for ban

    This is problem is not from tik tok. Tik tok just a platform. Other countries also has tik tok like Singapore, Malaysia etc. Their government is not allow to post any violence, insulting race & religion in tik tok. They take down immediately. How sure without tik tok, teenager won't post anything violent in other platform? Is law needed to stop posting this type of content. Just banned can solve the problem? No, is usa seeing a golden egg and want to rob it. I'm not a tik tok user. So it did not affect me. Is just my opinion

      China would've loved to have douyin here, but by the order of the US gov, it has to be separate servers and management. Bytedance actually complied, and tiktok still blew up, and is seen as too powerful an alternative to traditional media and the controlled narratives they push. The biggest conflict being that mainstream media supports Ukraine and Israel, while alt media like Tiktok absolutely do not, and IDF have been posting pretty terrible shit on there that would be filtered out if it was just mainstream media. Hence, where we are now. You think.

    Interesting topic. Some of these reasons I've never considered. Firstly, I want to be clear: I never have been on or used tiktok, it's ban affects me in no way whatsoever, on a personal level I don't care that much about it. But I have my opinions on tiktok being banned. I consider tiktok like all other social media platforms, there's positives and negatives. The only social platform I think is fully negative is Truth Social but it's more comical to me.
    I agree that tiktok contributes brain rot but only barely more so than other platforms. I think no one who uses tech gadgets or the internet or streaming to babysit/raise their kid and giving them ipads as young at 8 can point a finger at tiktok for brain rot, it's a bit hypocritical to me. I do think there's some truth in China being the reason for the ban and some people worry about information going to a foreign government. I'd rather my info went to a foreign government than my own (the US government). What good is my info going to do for a foreign government? And I certainly don't trust my own government and think they have too much control over our lives and are trying to push that more and more it seems. Smearing anti-genocide protestors, cruel anti-trans laws and outlawing abortions... no I don't trust my own government at all or our mainstream media or big corporations. I don't see how anything on tiktok could be useful to China in harming the US as a country in any way at any point. I think the real for the ban of tiktok was lightly touched on but not made clearer: the US government doesn't like that the majority of Americans aren't buying into their propaganda about Israel vs Gaza and it will likely cost Biden the election because the youth who were a large part of him winning are pro-Gaza, along with chunks of people in swing states who have friends and family in Gaza and these people are very angry at him for allowing the genocide for his own political and financial gain. Politicians on all sides, with a few exceptions don't like that their propaganda isn't being bought. Since it's the youths, like college students who are being very vocal and protesting who are also the largest demographic on tiktok in the US, the US government has decided they have to ban tiktok so people will buy whatever narrative they want to push. Another smaller reason is that US politicians/businesses want a piece of the tiktok pie financially and also because they see how influential the platform is to a large demographic of the US population, not just the youths. That's why they tried to strong-arm tiktok into selling to them. China is largely a cover for their real reason, but said reason is covered on various platforms too. So even if they ban tiktok, it won't work as much as they think. It's too late. Biden seems poised to lose the election over this and the only thing that will improve his odds is doing what protestors and pro-Gaza people are demanding. Not saying those people will vote for Trump though. I'm saying they won't vote at all for anyone. Which would sadly likely hand Trump the win. Low turn-out played a big part in Trump winning in 2016. Many youths & minorities voted for Biden in 2020 and likely won't this year over Gaza. Taking the politics out of it entirely, I feel bad for the small businesses who claim tiktok has played a crucial ongoing role for their businesses. If that's true, the US government could be ending many small businesses throughout the country. I'm not as concerned about brain rot or China having so-called 'sensitive info' as I am about these small businesses. Well, that's pretty much my entire view on the ban of tiktok: I don't buy China being their reason and even if it's legitimate, I'd rather they have my info than my own government that clearly isn't acting like the democracy it claims and is acting more like an oligarchy intent on taking away our existing rights. The US government has caused its own people more harm than China by taking away our rights and its hateful rhetoric and it's more obvious than ever thanks to platforms like tiktok. Sometimes you have to take the cons (brain rot & misinformation which can be countered easily) with the pros (increasing awareness of the outside world and the role the US plays).

      One thing I really hate is that I do feel like a lot of Asian Americans do have a tendency to bias towards any side that is anti-China and anti-CCP. I wouldn't use sensational words like self-hating or whitewashed, but it's just that growing up in America kinda biases you towards that route. It's ultimately nurture. When I talk about politics revolving China, it gets frustrating because I don't demonize them like everyone else. And don't get me wrong, I don't angelify them either. But the energy shifts in the room and you can feel it. And then they go to the typical well know stuff China has done that makes them look bad to elicit some fear in me like somehow I haven't watched the news 🙄. It just seems like a lot of people in America on both the left and right aren't willing to look at the country beyond the demonized image.
      Look I love America, I'm not some "chinese shill". I was born here and I love it here. But it does kill me when our own people, Chinese Americans, look at their ethnic country with such disgust without even a second thought

    So great that you covered this! The fundamental issue is that tiktok is an agent of the Chinese government under their laws. Even if every tiktok employee was devoted to free speech and personal privacy, under Chinese law the governments can own everything that tiktok owns. It's not a real ban as in being illegal to own or use in the US--it would just ban the legal sale in app stores in the US because it is (again) allowing the Chinese government full access to your personal data. But if tiktok doesn't sell to a US company and continues to be owned under Chinese law, and people are still willing to put themselves at risk, they can keep using tiktok, just through other means.

    • @gudrun5531
      @gudrun5531 Před 20 dny

      I also agree it it seems unlikely the Chinese govt would allow the sale of tiktok. It's too much of a soft power tool for them to lose access to it entirely, considering how the whole world is using it. I can't see any reason why they would allow it.
