I’m wondering if your output levels would’ve been any higher with the Samsung 30T or 40T, 21700 battery?

Zozz - excellent dissection of the FT03S. I hope the people at Astrolux get to see this analysis of the serious shortcomings of their design. If they follow your recommendations, they can get to work on an appropriate reflector (and heavier gauge wire). Cheers!

Subscribed. Thank you for the straight forward video. I bought ft03s yesterday before watching your whole video. I am still ok with the 310kcd at the price I got it for, as it will be my longest throwing light so far. Is disappointing it doesn’t come closer to spec. I may try switching out mcpcb wires like you did. I figure if the K1 gets 420kcd (Hanks claim I trust), then even if this got 400kcd that would be great. Do you think the reflector alone would bring the KCD up another 70-100k? I appreciate all of your input here and on BLF. thanks !

I am trying to get my head around the sbt-40 v. Sb-90.2. I take it the advantage of the sbt-40 over the xp-l v6 is lower forward voltage means less heat at a given current. I assume it can do 202 lpw, or 384 lumens at my 700 ma, 10 hours work day. I dislike the AMC 7135 lights, because the linear driver just burns off the excess voltage. But, I am not convinced that my buck driver magically converts the voltage to amps either. So, maybe 15 more time before cutting out? Or 15% less heat. Is there a dedomed sbt-40 available. I have ruined about a dozen leds trying to dedomed, never happy with results. I am happy with the xp-l hi. The xp-l and xml sucks in that you need to use a 31 mm driven at 1 watt to get 4000 candela, which is the maximum drive level allowed if you want a single 18650 light to get a full workday. Thus a single AMC 7135 and xp-l hi are necessary for a useful single cell light. However, the AMC 7135 kinda sucks, and you get 70% of promised 10 hours, while the buck Puck 700 offers 92% of the promised 10 hours off 2 s 18650..... I am hoping the 90.2 is just a dedomed sbt-40, but from the looks of the lights, probably not. Isn't the led footprint smaller than the xp-l or xml? Apparently, not.... The tint of the luminous is a step backwards. But maybe cost makes up for it? Unfortunately, my target is 10 hours, 4000 lux, 2s18650 (21700 isn't big enough for a good single cell, and too heavy for a 2 cell wearable).

My xhp version does not do that. I have the sst40 ft03 coming in as well as the ft03s coming in. Hope it doesn’t make those noises, or at least if it does make them it doesn’t effect the glass? Water seal? Cracking noise seems bad from glass? Also, I have about 4 astrolux now and I really like them, although I’m not that knowledgeable of internals and what justifies price and quality. I know (so far) they’ve been as reliable as my emisars/ noctigons.. maybe long term is different story. Of course with the amount of lights I have I don’t use any one more then a couple hours a month except my edc

I ordered two extra reflectors for FT03S. I have Sst40 and XHP 50.2.. both excellent.. ft03s even brighter..One had a spiral machine line faintly slanted with the cone revolution. BG..The other I swapped out and didn’t see a difference other than if that sbt90.2 is not sitting just right. The hotspot which is tight but immediately around the hotspot is a sloppy smear of light in a weird off center mandala. I used one of the new reflectors and best I could do to center the hotspot with a secondary N,S,E,W, pattern from the huge square LED. My observation. Screwing the whole cap assembly together and moonlight the sbt.. shake and twist till you get a uniform pattern..

Hey bro, here I answer your question after a year by different account😅,
That led was "Osram KW CSLNM1.TG"
With about ~850lumens achieving ~500000candela in ft03 host.
      It requires about 4 amps.

With a faulty muggle mode, bad calibration out of the box and 100m short of the throw claim, I'd personally go with the FT03.
I suggest your 21700 is past it's best, very high capacity or fake. It should make way more than 100 lumens more than a 26650!!!! I get 4100 lumens with a 26650 as you do but with a Samsung 40T I get over 5000

Anyways, I’m actually very happy with it so far. It is definitely brighter than my other two FT03 flashlights, the XHP50 and the SST40 versions. It’s basically a scaled down version of my AceBeam K95 although I’m sure other Flashoholics would disagree with that comment.
Is it worth the $139 they’re asking? I certainly didn’t think so which is why I searched around for other videos here on CZcams that were reviewing it and offering links for discounts. Got mine for $94 which I think is a fair price for it.

That soldering job looks like the sloppy ones I do but that should not be the case for something you pay for. But coming from Astrolux I’m not that surprised. This is why they are so inexpensive compared to something from Fenix for example. And I know Fenix doesn’t make monster throwers like Acebeam or Imalent but I don’t recall having reliability issues with them as often as I do with the previously mentioned ones.

To answer the thread title, No. Terrible heat management, literally shuts down after a short turbo

3x cost is too much, i prefer buy xhp50.2 is good enought for real uses, and i a want cheap and the best throw buy the sst40-w version of the ft03

I couldn’t resist for just a 100 with a good code. The ft03$ series regardless of overinflated numbers. You have a longer more powerful throw than the SST40 and a longer more powerful throw similar to the width of beam and hotspot of XHP50. The SBT90.2 and anduril features is a step up from the ft03 if you have the geech. I’ve one on the way. Deodoming etc and risking ruining the diode modding for more candela on cheaper units, meh.
