    • 11 KISS “Unplugged” - ...
Today on the channel, we are checking out KISS as they perform their song "I Still Love You" on MTV Unplugged in 1995! This was my first look at a performance with no makeup, and while it was different, I still enjoyed it! The vocal performance was insane and the chorus had such a great hook! I can't wait to hear more from KISS! Hope you enjoy! #reaction #kiss #kissarmy #70srock #genesimmons #classicrock #acefrehley #petercriss #paulstanley #musicreactions

    Fun fact about Paul Stanley:
In 1999, Stanley starred in a Toronto production of The Phantom of the Opera,[32] in which he played the role of the Phantom. He appeared in the musical from May 25 to August 1, and again that year from September 30 to October 31, 1999, closing the show's ten-year run in Toronto.

To say Ace & Peter left to have solo careers is a nice way ofputting it. One was a complete boat anchor by the end of 1979 and was let go. The other, Ace, could barely function by the end of 1982, let alone be in a band.
Doesn’t take away from their importance and success to the band in the first 5-6 years, but if it was keep them in the band at any cost, the band ends by 1982.

This is the line up of Eric Singer on drums and Bruce Kulick on guitar. This is one year before the reunion tour when Ace and Peter returned for a full Make-Up tour. IMO best tour they ever had. I will once again ask for you to react to something live from reunion tour Live, Rock and Roll All Nite or Detroit Rock City. Once again at their peaks musically and all their vocals was absolutely perfect.

This tune is off their Creatures of the Night album. 1982. Last with the makeup until they put it on again for the reunion. The album cover has Ace on it but he didn’t play on the record. Different guitar players are on it with Vinnie Vincent coming on board, playing some lead and doing some songwriting. He was on the next record, Lick it Up, their first without makeup. He was fired after that tour. Bryan Adams actually cowrites a couple tunes on Creatures. It’s known for its big heavy 80s era rock drums sound. 2 of the best 80s KISS records are arguably Creatures of the Night and Lick it Up. Creatures is a big fan favourite even for a lot of the older 70s diehards.

Ace Frehley has said, and I agree, that its harder to play lead on an acoustic guitar vs an electric. I have to tip my hat to him and to Bruce Kulick on this session because they both stayed faithful to the old solos originally played on electric guitars.
I'm not sure what other Kiss stuff to recommend. Revenge was a great album, heavier than the 70s and early 80s stuff. After that was Carnival Of Souls, which went in an even darker direction than Revenge.
    Other non Kiss songs:
    Aerosmith: Woman Of The World
    Thin Lizzy: Cowboy Song
    Megadeth: The Doctor Is Calling
ZZ Top: Waiting For The Bus
    Jimi Hendrix: Drifting
    Grand Funk Railroad: Bad Time
    Misfits: Don't Open Till Doomsday
I know I might get a lot of shit for this, but Lana Del Rey's "Ride" is a great song. The video is like a mini movie, sort of like MTV videos were back in the day.

This is my favorite MTV's unplugged concert and possibly one of top 5 favorite concerts I've seen - on screen or in person. Of all the MTV's Unplugged I've seen (and I've still got a 30 on VHS) - I think KISS, Paul McCartney, and Sting (and - begrudgingly saying this - perhaps Pearl Jam) - took the event most seriously preparing versions of their songs for it, not just playing the usual only accoustic.
There were two more ballads in that concert and these are my favorite performances of "Every time I look at you" and "Going blind"

  • @donbergeson6771
    @donbergeson6771 Před 22 dny +1

By 1982 KISS was all but dead. They were playing to half arenas and couldn't even fill that and album sales tanked. In 1983 they took off the makeup and appeared without it for the 1st time live on MTV. That restarted their career and put MTV on the map. Suddenly, both were relevant. They actually sold more records in the 80s without makeup than they did the 70s with it. The 90s came around and they were about dead again (as every rock band was because of the rise of grunge). After 92's album, Revenge (which I think is their best album), they started doing official KISS Konventions where all sorts of merch was sold, a lot of stuff from their vault was put on display and they'd play an acoustic set. Conventions had been going on for years in multiple cities and we're very successful so they figured they'd do an "official" one and make money themselves. It was very successful. Peter Criss, after not talking to Gene and Paul for over a decade, took his kid to one of them just to show how it used to be and he was a big deal at one time. He ended up on stage to sing Beth and the crowd went nuts. MTV Unplugged was pretty big at the time and they approached Gene and Paul about recording the acoustic show at the LA KISS Konvention but with Ace and Peter. They even released it on home video. That's what this song is from. Ace and Peter played a few songs with all 4 of the other guys and that's what lead to the reunion and putting the makeup back on and once again pulled KISS off of life support.

Eric Singer is the drummer, he wears Peter Criss make up now. Haven’t checked, but he may be kiss longest tenured drummer

  • @cainealexander-mccord2805

That looks like Eric Singer on the drums, but I'm not 100% sure. I do believe he was with them for a while. He was a great drummer, played with a bunch of people. I kinda forgot how good this song was. Didn't take long to realise I preferred Stanley's tunes over Simmons', but this one was really out of the mold for them. And was greatly improved, like a lot of bands, by doing the Unplugged thing. What a great series that was.

That's Bruce Kulick on the Lead Guitar. He was there for Years.
On this Unplugged performance,Peter & Ace came out & played a few songs.
Ace sang 2000 Man & Peter sang Nothin' To Lose. U should check Both of those out. Great Jams.

It was singing songs like this one...and hitting and holding notes...is why Paul's voice was shot by the time he became a senior citizen.

@brwie When Paul Stanley still had his voice. He was the best front man in rock. I think he lost It I want to say mid 2000's. Because he from CZcams videos I've seen was doing a tour with kiss. And also another tour at the same time and his voice was lost.... he still has an amazing personality for interviews, and I could listen to him tell stories of the rock and roll his guitars anything. Truth be told, if he had not lost his voice. Kiss would still be touring.
No doubt in my mind about that.

So many put them down because they think they simply rely on flashy costumes and pyro to get them through, but, strip it all away, and this is what you get. You can't endure as long as they have without talent.

I know that nearly everyone refers to "Beth" when they think of a ballad from KISS.
But personally, I have always thought that "I Still Love You" (the original LP version) is the best ballad that KISS ever recorded.
I don't believe that it was ever released as a single.
However, I do feel that had it been, it very likely COULD HAVE BEEN the band's highest charting song... possibly even going to #1.

By the time they took the make-up off their career looked like it was over. Hardly any of the old fans cared since most of them had dropped off - But taking the make-up off got them a lot of media attention and revitalized their career gaining them a lot of new fans.
