So glad to see Tyler the creators character from regular show win the whole thing. And they way they talked about his influence on the culture. Finally getting the flowers he deserves!
Love fantano's point about DOOM's legacy taking time to develop and comparing that to peggy. Often times true artistry is only widely appreciated years later, but the immediate impact is still heard by those looking for that individuality and uniqueness in music,
this was actually a really good conversation. so many good points were being made and brought to their conclusion
I’m a fan of NFR and think they put out solid content, but this conversation as well as the discussion on their channel just shows that Anthony is on another level. He’s consistently running circles around their opinions and clearly has exponentially more knowledge on some of the topics at hand. He has been in the game long enough to see past certain trends (as he points out) that the other guys still cling onto.

Anthony’s a very well-spoken, comprehensible dude. He’s also got some years on them so experience is definitely a factor. Give the boys some time, they’re just getting started.
The Eminem vs Jay Z point was genius on Fantano's part. I think NFR couldn't quite match Fantano's arguments from a more academic and cultural perspective, but if we get more of these fantano debates and discussions I'd be down for more of these colabs.

@@omari3107 highly disagree but sure
This was honestly such a great discussion
One thing about Kendrick that's interesting is that few people seem to fully follow his sonic or concept lanes, which happens more with Kanye. Maybe it's because Kanye did a lot of it on his own or almost, which allows for copying more easily, or Kanye's lines aren't as deeply layered, or his albums not as insanely conceptual, but whatever it is, there's a lot more replicability in the industry from his music than from Kendrick's. But maybe it's just that, Kendrick is hard to copy because he reinvents the perspective from what he looks at music, thus each album has its own character name, where Kanye changes the music which he uses to express himself through.
Ye is more colourful.
I think Kanye’s antics are stuff that’s already been in the media, so people are fully aware that a Kanye has a deeper meaning. But Kendrick usually implicitly speaks on personal topics, which people will probably not clock on to immediately
Not as conceptual. Are you mad? Yeezus, 808’s, MBDTF, hell even JIK are all conceptual albums, far more experimental than all Kendrick albums with the exceptions of TPAB. Like are y’all okay?
Kendrick talks bout unique topics and expresses himself lyrically. It’s harder than copying Kanye’s sound(tho kanye did make talking ur personal issues in hip hop mainstream). Also Nas already does better than Kendrick at storytelling
@@Weru212 I said "Kanye changes the music which he uses to express himself through" to me that shows how experimental he is. And I'm not saying Kanye's albums aren't conceptual, but they don't tell a tight cohesive story like Kendrick's do. The story is more loose, it revolves things.
Damn, this had a lot of close match-ups. Glad to see Bladee saw the top spot!
Having a debate/conversation about music with people who are equally as passionate & interested sounds like a good time. Rarely happens for me though. A lot of people don’t nerd out over music like this unfortunately

I feel like young kids don’t understand the impact Eminem had. I don’t even listen to rap and Em is one of my favorite rappers. Kanye has some hits but Eminem was as big as Drake back in the day. He was much more commercial than Kanye has ever been. Kanye is for rap heads. Eminem went pop
popularity doesn’t always equal influence
This.
Wasn't into rap that much back in the day, yet knew lots of Eminem tracks by heart.
The only stuff from Kanye that i recognized back then was sample from "Stronger" playing in obscure places and "Heartless".
"I don't listen to rap and em is one of my favorite rappers" perfectly sums up why people will always debate whether or not em's influence is important enough to make him the GOAT. This conversation is sparked from a love for hip hop, not because Eminem was the first white person to do it well enough to be in the running.
@@jordanbeck2660 I think that he being white is a big reason why he is not as respected as other rappers by ppl who listen a lot to the genre, i mean, structurally his music is insanely good and he's influenced rappers from all over the world. I still don't understand the genius that ppl see in Ye, listening to his songs i see why ppl like it, but not why ppl venerate it, my favorite thing about him are the samples, but not because he makes them better, but because i go hear the songs that he sampled, which most of the time i prefer than his songs lol. Anyway, Eminem isn't better than kendrick, so the end result would be the same imho.
@@omari3107that’s just simply not true. You can say popularity doesn’t equal quality sure. But popularity ABSOLUTELY has something to do with influence. How the fuck would say Biggie, Tupac, etc. influence the game if nobody fucking heard of them.

I feel like there should be a distinction between best rapper and best rap artist. Kanye makes great rap songs but I have never considered him a great rapper. Eminem is the opposite, GOAT level rapper who doesn't really make great songs anymore. Kendrick is someone who excels in both lanes.
fr

Talkin about impact on the scene for Future right after you talked about how you weren't gonna count it for Eminem. Nice.
Kendrick and Kanye one is tough. That whole Taylor swift kanye mvma thing happened before Kendrick even released his first album. And by that point we already had 4 albums from Kanye, he already was set in stone.
I always find it interesting when someone talks about "oh I'm biased" when comparing artists. Like yeah that's what we're discussing! What do you like more! What's your personal opinion? That's what we're trying to figure out, I don't want a boring ass bracket based on being "objective", I want to know who you like
I’m 2 weeks late this comment but you’re right on the money with this take. I always hate music discussions that bring in “objectivity” because it kills any type of creative or interesting discussion. Like if you have an unpopular take based on your own bias and personal enjoyment then say that shit because it creates fun debates. We don’t need anymore “well personally i like X more, but obviously Y is objectively better”
I've got no jokes. This shit just fucking rules
