You can use any solid blocks.
Cobblestone, stone, andesite, wood, ...

If everything is made correctly, first set the game difficulty to peaceful and then to hard, and then wait at least 5 minutes in the AFK place, because sometimes it happens that there are several minutes between spawning mobs.

Yes, you can, just make sure that you must go up 100 blocks from the area you want to build.

Like 100% fool proof works cause I have an old style one on my old realm I have copied and it works flawless but as soon as I started a new world and built the exact style farm it's obsolete and not working but maybe like 3 monster ever 5 mins
