My mom's uncle David was a grumpy old Scotsman who never had any pets. My dad, who raised parakeets, gave Uncle David a young harlequin parakeet as a gift. Next thing you know, the bird is sitting on the edge of Uncle David's breakfast, lunch and dinner plates every day assisting David in disposing of his meals. The bird was his constant companion until it's untimely demise. The old man was heartbroken.

Slightly unrelated, but when you said "she has a habit of going in circles...because she was kept in a small cage" all I could think of was how many human beings who were abused or neglected as children seem to limit their own potential later in life. Heartbreaking. But what a lovely little bird, so glad she's loved now!
Upbringing has a lot to do with how you perform as an adult. There are a lot of really messed up people in the world, mainly because their parents or their living situation growing up sucked.

@@Cathee.M. usually, yes. But birds in particular will imprint on their primary caregivers if they've come from traumatic backgrounds. It's almost as if they regress. When they understand there's complete security with said caregiver, they will naturally imprint. It's beautiful.

This is one of the most precious things I've ever seen! The birds pick their person ❤ My husband and I have 4 rescue parrots and we adore each of them. They all have their own personalities and I can't imagine my life without them in it.
It breaks my heart when I hear of animals being neglected. That is such a breach of trust with a vulnerable creature. Bless your hearts for giving Fefe her Forever Home and all the love she deserves ❤️ We reap what we sow, and I know that the love you give her is returned a thousand time more.

Fun Fact: Birds tend to pull their feathers out when left alone for too long. They flock together for a reason.
That means her previous owner probably didn't pay attention to her very much.
They also pull their feathers out when they're stressed or depressed
That's why i have 2 budgies, so they can be together when i'm at work, then i let them out and interact with them.
Sometimes their feathers also just dont grow :(

It wasn't necessarily cruelty, Fefe is like 17 years old. No animal was born to live in a cage, it's unnatural and has serious affects that people don't realize.

@@owenwilson8771 It's pretty much a fact that if you throw any animal in a cage it's going to be miserable. Anything from birds to humans can exhibit signs of stress. Look at all the cases of confined animals, elephants, killer whales, apes etc attacking people. Humans think we can control animals for pets and entertainment and they end up having their natural instincts deprived.
Matt G Except, given proper care, many of those pets can be happy, including parrots. One doesn’t just put it in a cage 24/7 though, as you see with the current owners of this happy bird.

Thank you so much for giving her so much love. I cry tears of joy for every bird, mammal, etc. who can be their full self. I just wish all mankind could be as aware as you two are of the joy they can bring to us. Bless you both.
My stepdad had a similar relationship with my dog, Roxy.
My stepdad really didn't want a dog and said "you guys can get a dog, but don't expect me to love her like you all will"
We found her at a very fifthly and terrible shelter and saved her from that awful place. My stepdad was bringing her home, and I think that is when they first bonded. We cleaned her up, and over the years, she and my stepdad bonded closer than she did with anyone else in the house. My mom was her mommy, who would take care of her. She was always following her around. My stepdad was her boyfriend though.
When we first got her, we were going to let her sleep in a cage downstairs. That quickly turned into letting her sleep in a cage in my parents room. Eventually, that turned into letting her sleep with my parents snuggled up in bed. At night time before everyone was asleep, my stepdad and Roxy would just stare into each other's eyes, lying on a pillow. Whenever my stepdad came home from work, it was time for everyone in the house to yell "Pat's home" (my stepdad's name). She would go crazy, grabbing the nearest toy and greeting him with tons of love.
Sadly, Roxy passed last September, and I still miss her and think about her every day. She was 12 years old.
The joy and perspective that Roxy gave to our family is something that will stay with us. She changed my stepdad's entire perspective on animals.
We will miss you Roxy, forever.

When she says that her husband is not a fan of birds, that very well could be true but it's irrelevant because that's not a bird, that's a piece of actual living love that happens to resemble a bird.

Folly A lot of people come to love cats after the right exposure. I had Archie in 13 years ago and he was my first. I love all animals so I shouldn’t be surprised that I fell in love with another animal species. I have had cats and dogs since then and would love to have a parrot! 😉💖💖💖💖
@@frankieandcompany5860 I've always loved cats. I used to love dogs but after having problems with them in my neighborhood it depends on the dog. I recently adopted an abused rabbit and now I'm in love with bunnies too 🐇

It's so sad that she plucked her own feathers because of anxiety due to being kept in a small cage. The reason for her to move in circles shows that. I'm so happy for the bird and thankful to the family that adopted the bird. Godspeed ❤️
Do the feathers ever grow back? How does she pluck own head, seems impossible.
Zeke after some time of pluckin, it can sometimes not grow back.

Poor little thing. She had to be really unhappy to self harm like that and pull out her feathers. I have seen that before, but she is the most severe case I have ever seen. So nice to see she now has a loving family.

@ Most often, no. While naturally fallen feathers are likely to regrow.. Self-plucking in birds usually results in damage to the skin, causing inability to grow new feathers.
This is sad. But she's cute and beautiful anyway.
I leave water outside for animals and sometimes food, but I can’t afford adopting them because the medical bills. I try my best to help

I too am not a bird guy BUT this particular bird has a certain charisma and charm to her. I would love to see a follow up story with these wonderful people and this beautiful bird.
