Jeff Cook passed away he didn't leave the group. Just I think the year before he died, Alabama came out of retirement and joined Home Free on HF's Christmas show and they did Alabama's song, Christmas in Dixie together. Randy still has that great voice even in his 70's.

Alabama started in 1969 but had their biggest success in the 80's, where the band had over 27 number one hits, 7 multi-platinum albums & received numerous awards. The band blends traditional country music & Southern rock combined with elements of bluegrass, folk, gospel & pop music. Some of their most famous songs are "Tennessee River", "Love In The First Degree", "Mountain Music", "Dixieland Delight", "If You're Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have A Fiddle In The Band)", "Song Of The South" etc.

I got married in 1977, and this became "our song" We danced to this many times. After my husband died in 2005, this became one of my favs to sing at Karaoke. Got really good reaction from everyone. I have 6 of their albums, so I loved their sound.

Talk about a rabbit hole! They got so many hits it makes your head swim!
For an awesome anthem for America: "40 Hour Week"
An excellent story-telling song "18 Wheeler (Roll On)"
For just some good upbeat songs: "Closer You Get", "Mountain Music" "If You're Gonna Play In Texas" "Love in the First Degree" "Take Me Down" "Fire in the Night"
For some softer more tender songs: "When We Make Love", "Lady Down On Love" "Close Enough to Perfect"
And for all you dads of little girls, "Never Be One Again" That one always makes me feel something in my heart. 🙂

Yes the Oak Ridge Boys are a great group - I feela few of the newer groups may rival the Oak Ridge Boys - those being Shenandoah and Diamon Rio. Sawyer Brown is another group that might rival the Oak Ridge Boys for over all popularity and success.

Great rabbit hole to go down. My favorite country artist. I’m a true metalhead from long ago but was raised on country so I love 70s-80s country but none more than Alabama. 33 number one hits and 51 top ten singles total. Their harmonizing is second to none. So many songs to list to recommend but my favorite is Tennessee River. Love the band so much my wife and I chose There’s No Way for our wedding song.

It's family harmonies.. they are cousins. Randy lead, Teddy bass guitarist and Jeff didn't leave the band.. he got Parkinson's and had to leave and has since passed. I think when I just saw them a few years ago Jeff's daughter was playing fiddle.. not sure but I know it was a family member that took over for Jeff. Randy Owen suffers from vertigo.. and he struggles moving on stage now but his voice is still DEAD ON..

    hey Anthony!
    …and Happy New Year!
this band, at least the founders, all lived abt. 10 mi. from my home. I used to hear some of them playing & sing during their down-time, at a park near here where we often camped during our summer vacation. also, they held an open air concert in the town where the band formed, Ft. Payne, AL. they called it the “June Jam,” where many well known artists, and their Alabama band would perform. I only went to the first one, but it was great. these guys wrote and performed so many hits during their active years, it was just insane. the lady’s especially liked their music, so I did too. 😜
    great pic, good reaction @Anthony!

    Great Reaction MMBxMOB!
In 1981 I was working for a company Itty Bitty Machines! After work I talking to friend in the parking lot he had his radio on and Old Flame came on and asked who is that? The vocals were so powerful!
But the Video I want to recommend is called
There’s No Way! And one of the most beautiful women in the world is in this video her name is Katherine Kelly Lang! This is more mainstream than most of their songs!🙏🏻

Thanks for doing a reaction to this Amazing Group. If you want to hear an Alabama song that if you just heared it and didn't know it was by them , you might mistake the song for rock and not even consider it was done by a { Country } group is called Red River , it's not a very well known song of theirs but - it has become a favorite of mine.

Music a little too relaxed/slow for me, but I put myself in their place, in the country with mountains, no city hussle & bussle, and I can see appreciating it much more in a calm relaxed setting.
Music is fed by internal & external influence.
One day I might get to chill in nature and listen to country in it's proper setting.🤠
