    In this video I clean up a bunch of mud and muck that has been revealing itself with the heavy rain we have had recently. Man it's nice to be able to do it with the excavator! I also burned a bunch of stumps and use the chainsaw and excavator to clear more road access to the back of the property. I was also able to put a coat of Odie's Oil on the decorative shelf I recently built. Got to keep moving forward! Thank you for following our journey.

    Rather than burning all the logs, having you thought about bucking them into 4ft lengths and then stacking them between trees at various points over the plpt? It would be great for wildlife, would act as a windbreak for the plot and the added shelter could attract more deer as they use the wood walls to shelter from prevailing winds.
    It may mean you have to move the logs less distance too.
    Just an idea.
    Thanks for the content.

    For burning logs have you tried a modified Canadian Candle or Swedish Fire Log? Cut a couple of slits across the top of the stump, light the fires and the coals fall into the middle of the stump, perpetuating the fire until there is nothing left to burn.

    I've had lots of experience with water drainage and I used my mini excavator to make the roads with a crown so the water drains off to the side. Then give the water a place to drain out. I planned out the water drainage out of a 40 acre property that was in a low lying area. Your roads will stay in better shape after it rains, with no standing water.

    you can burn out big stumps like that easier with a big long 3/4" auger bit as long as you can find one (18" or longer)- drill it full of holes straight down from the top as many and you can before you get tired, dribble a little old stale gas or coleman fuel or anything to aid the burning and THEN light your fire - you'll remove it in HALF the time- the fuel you add is obvious and the holes help air get into the stump like a Rocket stove!
    Once you have the cabin you can put some Solar Panels meant for an RV camper as a Battery tender on the roof- then you neednt care about the decking letting in rainwater and running down the battery from the bilge pump

  • @sifibuckle
    @sifibuckle Před rokem +1

    A Solar battery charger/trickle charger would be a winner for the boat. Mount it on the front of the console at an angle it would catch enough sun to keep the battery cells charged and save you peterol. You can then mount it on the roof of the cabin in the future as well.

    The best trick to removing stumps is leverage, and the best thing to use as leverage to pull a stump is the tree itself. Spend 10-30 mins digging the dirt away from the base of the tree to get to the largest main roots. Cut the roots close to the stump with a chainsaw on one side, the tree falls over and pulls the stump out of the ground with it. Cut the stump off of the downed tree, remove stump. No stump. Takes far less effort and time.

    Better to make 2 cuts w/ the chainsaw (like a cross) and pour a bit of diesel in it so the embers fall into the cross cuts and start to burn in the middle of the bottom of the cut. BTW, you'll only need a couple handfuls of twigs (small pile) burning on top & dropping embers into the cuts to begin the burn at the bottom. It burns from the inside out and leaves 4 quaters left standing to block the wind until the fire burns down into the dirt. Then the quaters fall inward and into the fire leaving nothing but dirt above ground.
    Just a suggestion !! 3 days for a 14" stump !!

    • @glyndevonport7802
      @glyndevonport7802 Před rokem +1

      I was going to suggest something similar, but I was going to say to drill or plunge cut with the chainsaw then pour diesel in and leave to soak in overnight then cut as you suggest add diesel and burn.

  • @johng3960
    @johng3960 Před rokem

    When burning those big stumps, cut down as much as you can. I cut them into cookies, 6-10" thick and then split with maul (short pieces split easy). The pieces will have more surface area and less mass and will burn faster.
    Have you tried uprooting the smaller trees with the mini before cutting? I've had good experience with it on Southern Yellow Pines up to 10" using a 12" bucket. Chop left & right sides, chop front, and push. If it's a difficult root, hook the root with the bucket teeth, push the back of the bucket to the dirt a little and curl the bucket, makes a nice lever with the back of the bucket as the fulcrum. The usual tree felling precautions of drop direction and nearby dead-standings still apply.

    Maybe you could find the time to explain your long term plans for dealing with the mud that comes this time of the year? I understand that you require more room to maneuver and to work, and that requires cutting down some trees and losing their roots effectiveness at holding soil in place, got it. But long term, how do you deal with the yearly deluge of mud?

  • @ericlee3421

    Drill 25mm hole down as deep as you can, 300 mm is good, meet up with 25mm hole horizontal. Pour in diesel mixed with methylated spirit so it can catch light with a match. Pump in air using a camping air blower either mains or battery I’ve used both, that will shrink that stump as long as you can keep blower going

      I live in the PNW, small 2 acres with lots of timber, and I have a chipper. I use mine for limbs and small sapling. This is something that comes up frequently in the comments section though. A nominal 20 in throat chipper is not only huge, (must be towed) it is also cost prohibitive for a property of this size.
