In this video we continue to work on the new dock! We added 2" thick solid yellow cedar decking and discovered how irritating the new 40V Makita saw really is... Adam (The Cameraman) was pretty stocked he finally got his Eagle shot as well and of course made an epic diner for us. Thanks for following along the journey! - Jak na to + styl
So let me give you diy floating dock builders a tip, double up the barrels and fill them 1/3 with water. You will be amazed with the stability it gives!
so much mass damping, yeah.
Man this sounds so logical!
Double one in top of the other or side by side
@@gdot9046 all in the same plane ofc (side by side), by making it deeper you make it again more instable.
AKA dynamic balast
Samurai, when you like a tool you say so, and when you hate a tool you say so. Thanks for your honesty! Thumbs up.
I've got the Makita 2x18v 7-1/4 saw and I really like it. It was the only full size saw available at the time and it has worked out great.
I really dig this series also - I enjoy learning through your thought process. 👍🏻
Keep the good work, your vision on what makes a men feel accomplished is great. I'm glad you're way happier now.
Cameraman and now chef! This channel just keeps getting better. I was thinking with all the great scenery that an ultra high-def camera would be a nice upgrade. Then the closeup of the Samurai eating noodles and I'm longing for the days of soft 480i! HA! Really great job guys; keep up the fine work.
I had that Makita cordless saw. I thought that I was only the one having trouble setting it up on 45degs. Sold it cheap and bought a Dewalt instead and works like a charm.
Thank you and have a good week.
Am I the only one who loved the rhythm of the title you selected for this clip?
"Deck the dock with yellow cedar..."
Fala lala la.. la.. la.,
"Set the screws and drive them firmly..."
Fala lala la.. la.. la., ..
"Plane we now that crappy angle..."
Fala lala la.. la.. la.,
"Troll the former good tool maaaaker..."
Fala ...lala la..... la, la...LA!
This is one of the best series on CZcams. So glad to see you building something great!
Been switching all my stuff to Milwaukee. If you watch Project Farm they almost always perform at the top (along with Makita and Dewalt). Don't have the circular saw though so I can't speak to it.
Yellow Cedar is my favourite wood. It keeps its smell for many years. Good to work with.
Are you in the Pacific Northwest? where do you source the cedar from?
So glad I stopped by. Like you I have run Makita18v since I started out and was thinking of upgrading to the 40v Makita, guess I will have to rethink that. Keep up the great work, all the best, Adrian
its a new line it will have a few bad apples, so far the only 2 tools i have heard of that are bad is the first gen recip saw (which has now been upgraded) and the blade right in the video. if you like blade left i have heard nothing but good things. if i had the money i would probably retire my mag 77
@@snagg100 fair enough. Less haste more speed. Might wait a while then and let them work out the bugs. 18v have served me well so far, so a little while longer certainly isn't going to hurt.
HEY, tie a 100' line on it and chuck it in the water! You might catch your anchor line with it!
Grab the Dewalt 7 1/4 and two of the 60 volt batteries. I know it's a huge investment but I made the switch years ago from Makita and have never been disappointed. Makita is the go for corded skillies though. Happy building brother and all the best from Halfmoon Bay, BC.
Most good wood workers I know, know what to expect from their own tools. They will tryout the tool before they know what to expect, take a closer look!!!
Why did i unconsciously read the title like a Christmas song and sing it in my head.. Great work! love the build
I just went back to the title and had to confirm! Lol
Depth of cut on a regular 7 1/4 skill saw is 1 3/4 but I agree I was tempted to switch over to the 40v platform but the 40 rear handle skill saw felt like a wet fart in my hands compared to my corded and 36v rear handies
I was going buy that saw. Thank you, iam geodesic dome builder. Love your work.
Those clouds are hypnotic. Thanks for the vids. OH! And shame on you Makita.
Well done, a fine job indeed!
すごい!
The DEWALT 60v circular saws are great! A lot of power, I have had mine since 2016 and I am still happy with it.
Good old festool
I switched to Milwaukee battery tools a few years back. I had used Milwaukee corded tools before, but has Makita battery tools started back in the early 90s. It got to the point where I needed newer tools. I herd good things about Milwaukee 18V i switched first with drills about 10 or more years ago.. now i have many 18 v tools the high amp hr batteries will last all day. I mow have about 10 different tools on this platform. I see no reason to go any higher voltage... Plenty of power. I did wear out 1 impact driver...which can be fixed for a few $ and time. I just replaced it and it is sitting waiting for me to fix it. I have 3 houses and i have chargers at each house, and i carry chargers in my work truck. I have a plugin for the truck when home that powers multiple chargers. Love my Milwaukee tools. I doubt that my small circular saw can do 2" but the standard size can at 45° . .
I’ve always liked this channel since I started watching years ago but you need to get some boots on. It makes me nervous watching you work in sandals. Keep up the good work!
Not your feet. Not your problem.
on the trim boards why a 45...
they always look bad after a while in the elements...love that spot you got there...👍👍
I think we should all start making our projects over open water so we don't have to sweep up the chips and saw dust.
Man that is the most beautiful place to live, I am so envious.
Don’t toss the 40V yet Get the 10”1/4 It’s really light and well balanced and rips through 4x like a dream
well does it cut at 45 degrees tho
I could be wrong but it looks like he had it set at 46 but the depth of Makita on a 45 cut have always been 4mm short. It might be something to do with Japanese lumber dimensions 🤷🏻♂️
Saw has flaws possibly but isn't a 45 degree cut on 2" stock, 2.82"?
The Milwaukee m18 platform is awesome. The yard tools are unbelievable. And the m18 worm drive circular saw is out of this world. And i bet you could get them to do a sponsorship
But it is chinese
@@dagored100 no they aren’t. American based company with majority of the tools produced in the USA
@@welderboy525 yes it is chinese look at wiki .. a brand and subsidiary of Techtronic Industries, a Hong Kong-based company[
@@dagored100 thats Japanese. And its still USA based. . Didn’t say it wasn’t foreign owned.
Honorable Samurai-san you have done well Grasshopper.
If you can walk the dock without wrinkling the wood fibers, your training will be complete.
That cordless router is a great tool for edging no line in the way .
Any idea which one he uses? I've been hoping for a couple years that he'd tell us.
My family all ditched Makita about 4 years ago. Milwaukee and Festool now.
My Dad bought Makita for years and then one day he bought a jigsaw and the jigsaw would only accept the battery that came with it and wouldn’t accept the other 18v batteries we already had. They literally changed the battery compatibility….
quality ! quality ! quality ! bang on
It looks like festool may be in your future. Yike$$$!
Oh, I was so waiting for him to toss that Makita overboard too. Would have been a costly toss, but funny.
I really thought he was going to chuck it in the water 😂
At some point it would be interesting to see your neighbors setup. Docks, cabins, etc?
He doesn't want you to see how close he is to town😂😂
8:40 - I had the same vision. 🤣
Happy am not alone in that situation with the new makita saw !!
I have the corded one and dont have those issues. His guide for angled cuts looks different than mine though. Purchased it about 5 years ago and has worked great for me.
@@IdealContracting the saw we talk about is the new 40v a think that the newest model the issue
@@prettynicefield1104 yeah, I saw that.
Stay with Makita 18v. I have some double battery Makita stuff and love it.
Your standards are high, and you are an advanced user, so in my opinion you have every right to give them he$$, much like with the ghetto hole saw attachment. I was just working with mine and I had to go over to the vice and tighten up all the complex, concentric, coaxial mis-mash to keep it tight.
I too pictured that saw going for a swim..
agreee with Adam, thought the 40volt was going for a drink...lol... I know what you mean, tools that fail the mission.....
if you drag a hook you should be able to catch the rope from your anchor
It's cool veiw!
I do have to add ear defenders 👍 big off cuts of timber falling on the deck and you're wearing sandals ... 🤣🦶 Medic!! 🤣
Okay on most circ saws you can use a screwdriver, or Allen key/wrench and adjust the stops, and you can adjust the "little red piece." In most saws also.. But if you can't on that Makita. Then holy hell, toss it in the lake my man!!
Milwaukee is pretty great btw..
Just my opinion!
I waited two years for the Peaky Blinders final season. You churn out content on the fly! Well done you!
Peaky Blinders isn't done yet. Still gunna make a movie finalizing it
@@beatarcheologzt Before that there’s the play in Camden.
Love my dewalt flexvolts
What type of timber is the frame itself made from? And is it durable and weather resistant?
Yellow Cedar as well, very rot and water resistant
That’s gotta be the most beautiful job site ever! Lol
Love the channel. Then sandals gotta go tho 🤣🤣
neat!
Makita getin called out! 😆
More like samurai losing future sponsorships. Noone wants to work with a guy who'll behave unprofessional towards their products. He has a history of this
@@beatarcheologzt it’s called telling the truth…. They can handle it
Am i weird... ??? I only prefer circular saw where blade is opposite side of yours (I am right handed), but I always like to see my blade in front of me, so i could clearly follow the blade and my line. Would you be able to make a video about this? What is pro's and con's (or why you prefer that type or just why the blade is in different positions of the circular saws) of circular saw with blade in front of you or like yours??? Thank you.
Looks to me that the blade isnt big enough to cut 2 inches on the 45 degree. It would bottom out of the centre spindle?
I love how someone commented on the last video saying Makita should be paying you for promoting their tools. Yeah...he's eating those words pretty hard now.
Go Maffel or Festool! And you should try an Erika85 compact table saw.
Mafell is amazing. So glad I bought my rail saw v festools
Question...why not install the fascia boards before pushing dock into the water? Using pipe to roll dock into the water was a great idea..
The title Has a kind of Christmas jingle to it.
Maybe Blade left! Rear handle? I can’t stand blade right saws. Makita rear handle are really nice. Haven’t used anything 40V yet.
Agreed, blade left rear handle are great. Yet to use any of the 40v stuff
I've used a bunch of cordless 7- 1/4" circ saws and the flexvolt dewalts are my favorite. The left blade worm-style one is awesome but is a little heavy. The Milwaukee is nice as well but lacks power compared to the flexvolt and has poor blade visibility.
I’m curious what size battery you used in the Milwaukee. If you use one of the bigger batteries (similar in physical size to the flexvolt batteries) I’ve never felt it was under powered. I also have not used a flexvolt circular saw.
Yup I love my flex volt circ. I'm a Milwaukee guy but I've been so happy with the Dewalt
@@jlinkhartive used the 5ah, 8ah and 12ah and youre right it does work better on the 12ah
looks good, sorry about the new crap saw.
i Love my Milwaukee tools....Can't go wrong.
I need a new circ saw and had considered the Mak, but maybe not now …
Such a meaningful job, and the two of you are a great team.
We know you are a long-time Makita user, so your complaints resonate. Unfortunately, it seems in their desire to compete with other high voltage platforms, they may be on a "race to the bottom" and that will result in less reliable tools. I always perceived Makita as very reliable, and priced at a premium to my preferred choice, DeWalt. Since Makita was basically the first really usable battery powered drill maker, they should have the edge on other brands in terms of hand-tool design experience and philosophy, and I think they often have and still do. It's really sad if they are starting to actually lower the grade of their tool design, and I really hope that is not a trend that continues. Their needs to be a range of value propositions, and Makita being a still independent tool maker in a world of conglomerate multinational companies that own several brands, Makita is like a beacon, a lighthouse of hope, along with a handful of other brands, that still make GOOD TOOLS. Ughh, thanks for the rant, cause I could rant myself about this subject and how annoying it is to find out a favorite tool is now worse. Maybe tweet the Makita people and see what they have to say. Your voice is the voice of countless other carpenters.
Love your honesty on Makita. However, you could be more critical on your sound! :D Get a deadcat!
Can we talk about how Richard has turned his comments off because too many carpenters in the comments were criticizing his use of plywood and edge-banding on a high-end jamb/casing install?
The vibe of that last video was off for sure. Think the pressure from the GC on that big job is really stressing him.
@@jeradmiller4575 I'm really not digging the plain, square back-banding on the casing either. A lot of his choices lately are confusing to me. Lots of sharp edges all over the place.
@@Dman222000 agreed. I was expecting the trim package to be more upscale and ornate to match the old part of the house.
For whatever reason that new circular saws blade cover doesn’t provide the full saw depth doing mitre cuts when the guard is “fully” retracted, wasn’t an issue with the older 18v saws 🤷♂️
8:39 me too LOL
I thought the same! Thought it was going in the water😂I remember you threw some tool off the roof maybe it was that saw? 🤔 Tool Manufacturers should be sending you all types of tools for free! Wtf! Hey cameraman make some calls! Lol!
He blew his opportunities to work with big companies. He absolutely shredded a company publicly that he bought an Alaskan mill saw from. He handled it very unprofessionally. That doesn't just go away when companies consider working with someone. He hurt his reputation. Look at April Wilkerson. Companies are lined at her door to work with her. Samurai has the oppose attraction. Dude has a whiny complainy personality.
@@beatarcheologzt 😂😂😂Thanks for the reply! Love ya channel Brotha!! 🤩🤩👊👍🥷
I'm curious on if my 7.25 36 volt will cut 2 " ..?
Have you put siding on the cabin Yet????
That’s interesting cos my First gen brushless 165mm (DHs680Z) was a qc let down aswell.
It kinda break’s my heart :(
The beginning of this video is like a 4K Bob Ross painting.....yes I've had some wine....
Cut depth for that saw is 2 and 5/8 at 0 degrees but only 1 and 13/16 at 45 degrees.
*screams in metric*
Milwaukee 💯👍
Really going for that Makita sponsorship, huh? 🤣
Cool to see you use the Norwegian clothing brand Norønna😊 greetings from the Norwegian land of non Samuraies😎
The cutting capacity of that saw at 45° is 1-13/16".
Samurai when is your tool vest coming out
My 140 bucks Black n Decker 18V chopsaw cuts 45s like a charm.
Talk about "high" and "low" quality brands...
11:20, I thought you asked them for the large drill bit?
did he drill a sacrificial board into his neighbors dock...????

Fa la la la la, la la la la
🎶
I'll have an "ear worm" of Deck the Halls all afternoon...thanks...could have been Rick Astley I guess...
If your board is 2in and you cut a 45deg isn’t a deeper cut? Just thinking it would be but..
Always got warm ears. Ear muffs are great for keeping ears warm.
If you're cutting on an angle, you're not cutting 2in deep, your cut is deeper than 2 inches because of the angle. You're going to lose 3/16th or better when you turn the blade from 90 degrees to 45 degrees. All of Skillsaw (brand) cut deeper than 2 inches at 90 degrees (and old Makitas), which is probably why you didn't have the problem before.
Maybe try Hikoki?
It seems like you might want to run the router on the end grain ?
To be honest with you Makita has lots of 40v circular saw and a few of them (the ones at big box stores) are junk but that appears to be with all the manufacturers. There gsh03z, and there rear handle saws are wonderful. I wouldn’t let one saw put a bad taste in your mouth. I think Makita needed to corner more market share and have started have released a few tools to offer at a competitive price at the big box stores. I’d take it back and order another option
You need the rear handle makita
fa la la la la, la la la la!
Man, the only thing on my mind during that rant was, he gunna chuck that saw out there down by that anchor.
