What do you think of this Patriot Pits Freedom 120? Are there any features you really like or features you dislike? Let me know below!
The smoker looks great but the fender in front of about1/3 of the cooking chamber needs to be redesigned. You will hit your leg 40, 000 times.
Just sliding the cooker to the rail would make it so much better. Perhaps they can make a slide for that purpose and slide it back more centered for travel.
I haven't hit my leg yet, but I'll let you know if I do. I'm not sure they could make it so that you could slide the whole thing back and forth with the weight.@@ricsbbq9999
@@FattysFeasts Thanks, I have a leg hit score card I keep. Also a head bump tally if you have a roof thats too low.
I didn't see it on the web site. Do you know when they are gonna post it
patriotpits.com/products/ols/products/freedom-94-trailer He doesn't have updated pics yet but this gives you a good idea.@@Utilitylocatorman
Thanks Josh! We appreciate you and Dan. And the honesty of your reviews is excellent.
Thanks Jay! I'm still madly in love with the pit (obviously). You are giving other pit makers a run for their money for sure 😁
Every last feature on this smoker is so well thought out. Perfect size for the backyard pitmaster too. Can’t wait to see you cook on this!
It's honestly insane the small details that we would forget about that Jay takes care of. The amount of stuff that I said "wow I never thought of that" is ridiculous. I'm looking forward to the first video on here also!
That’s a beautiful pit! the attention to detail really speaks to the pit builder ability’s. Congrats man! I bet you can’t wait to play with it all the time.
It really is! Jay is amazing at what he does. I'm totally looking forward to constant cooks. Just not looking forward to all the money I'll spend on meat 😂
thank you in depth review really enjoyed it
Glad you enjoyed it!
Gorgeous! Also here in CT counting down the weeks of lead time remaining on my 94, this is the perfect appetizer video while I'm waiting; great review!
You're gonna love the thing!! So excited for you!
Congratulations on the beautiful new pit!!
Thank you so much 😀
Quality work!
Awesome review!
Thank you!
Jason sent me a note last week letting me know my Freedom 94 is done. Looking forward to getting it! Appreciate your videos!
Was it hand written? Otherwise you should get a refund 😁 You're gonna love that thing. He just keeps making them better and better!
Congratulations Josh, that is an awesome smoker.
Hell yes! Thanks man!
Awesome video that's a good looking set up
Thanks man!
Great looking pit! Can't wait to see ur first cook!
Thank you! I'm looking forward to it also!
OK I’ve been smoking for a long time and I just learned a couple things from you. Thank you so much for sharing this video. Wow.
Glad you enjoyed it! I always love learning new things in my BBQ journey!
Congrats on the new pit, it's a masterpiece!!!👍✌
Thank you!! Yeah it is for sure!
Happy for you buddy. You banged it around and learned the ropes on that prior POS smoker. I remember a brisket you f’ed up and look at ya now. You deserve that thing. Bless
I wouldn't say the Brazos is a pos, just an entry level smoker. I don't know what brisket you're talking about but if it was my first brisket then yes LOL. But, that's why practice makes perfect!
Very nice.
Like the fact it's on a trailer, wish it was mine.
It's a beast for sure! I know there are some 120 models out there that don't come on a trailer and I just don't know how. I wouldn't get it without one.
beautiful smoker!
The thing is a machine!!
I'm impressed by how the door is perfectly sealed. The craftsmanship and attention to detail is next level.
You should ask them what's the maximum safe temperature for the smoker if you decide to make another pizza video.
It’s absolutely amazing. I’ve never seen a smoker with literally no leakage. I mean, I wouldn’t push it, but I would love to make a pizza on the coals or something.
This is amazing!!! Probably way more pricey than the Freedom 94. I wonder if we can get the 120 with the wagon instead of the trailer. I may have to pull it around the yard, but i won't be towing it anywhere. Great job Josh.
The thing is a beast! Currently he's not making the 120 on anything but a trailer, but with the weight, I'm not sure it would even be doable to make it on a wagon. Worth reaching out though!
What are the dimensions of the top rack? Can’t find it anywhere on their website. I’m curious if it’s at least 18” deep so ribs can fit on it front to back instead of left to right.
It is 15" deep due to the door reinforcements
Quick question: I wanna know if it’s leaking (or not) a lot from the chamber door when you cook with the damper 2/3 close or 1/3 close ?
HAHA I just responded to you on instagram. Apparently you did see the video 😂
You might get a puff here or there. Every build is unique, we really try to get them sealed out of the gate. Worst case after a cook or two it’ll seal up. Usually the carbon will take care of any slight leaks also oiling the door seal helps.
I was wondering what the inside of the smoker looks like. Is there a baffle, scoop or is it just open where the firebox meets the smoke chamber?
I'm not sure if you were able to see it in the video, but it's a very small baffle. Maybe about 3 inches long.
Would be nice to fully open the stack vent to see the actual draw. Looks like the smoke is coming out of the fire box instead of going through the pit where it should be going.
Must have just been the camera and lighting. I can confirm there is plenty of smoke coming out of the stack. The draw on this thing is literally insane wide open. It looks like a jet engine, but honestly, the hottest temps remain pretty close to the firebox.
Looks good 👍
Question:
What’s the diameter size of the stack and the length of it from the top of the collector.
Please let me know
Thank you
Giani
I swore I mentioned that, but I guess I didn't so I appologize. The legth of the stack is 50" and the the diameter is 5.75"
@@FattysFeasts
Thank you 🙏🏼
Badass smoker there, Fatty. I am thinking about ordering the backyard version (not trailer).
You definitely should! You won’t regret it. Just make sure you have a way to get it in your backyard. Hopefully it’s pretty flat and somewhat paved (unless you get the cart version)
You will love it! I have the Freedom 94 on the wagon. It is a monster and cooks flawlessly. I added all the features and am glad I did. The new flat top is ideal for pre-seasoning. I'm in love with mine and am impressed every time I use it.
So glad you enjoy it! These smokers are top notch for sure and so worth the investment!@@gofigure6562
I looked at the website and i didnt see this grill on it.
Great
Thanks!!
I did a lot of research and narrowed my search down to the Patriot 120 and the Lang 60” Deluxe with Chargrill (reverse flow). In the end I couldn’t justify all of the “add ons” with the Patriot and ended up going with the Lane…
Did you look at Shirley Fabrication also in your research? How did they compare?
@@mikecoughlin4128 I looked Shirley and I like their product, but the wait time was over a year.
I would take the patriot pits any day, but I am genuinely curious how you like it. Please let me know!
@@FattysFeastsI love the features of the Patriot and was even willing to fork out the extra $$$, but the Lang production facility is less than an hour from where I live and I was able to schedule a visit and get an in-person lesson on how to use it, plus they had two that were in the final phase of production and I was able to pick mine up 10 days later didn’t have to wait a year for it. So far it’s been great, the only thing that was a little tricky was learning the fire management. The reverse flow wants to eat smaller splits than a traditional offset but other than that it’s been an easy learning curve and the cooks have been awesome.
Well it sounds like for your situation, the lang was the way to go, especially being that close to you! And I'm glad you're learning it and enjoying it. I don't have much experience with them, so looking at it, I'm curious if you've used the box above the firebox yet. I've heard mixed things from various manufacturers about those boxes and their usefuless. @@bham311
Hey Josh - I love this pit. I'm getting ready to order a Freedom 120 of my own. I just have a quick question for you. I'm in midwest as well (Missouri) ... how was your trip hauling this thing from the Northeast to Nashville? Did the trailer pull/perform ok on the long road trip? Any tips on the commute since I'll be driving up north to pick it up and then towing it behind my truck to get it home to Missouri?
Oh damn! Well congrats on the purchase! How long is that drive gonna be? It actually was a breeze. I've literally never towed anything that distance before, so I was naturally nervous, especially driving in the middle of the night, pouring rain and fog down 81 in PA. But honestly, I barely noticed it was there, and I have it PACKED with personal belongings. Never thought I'd use a $7000 smoker as a moving trailer LOL
@@FattysFeasts thanks for the response Josh. It's about a 17-18 hour drive for me to go from Winsted, CT back to Southeast MO. How long was your drive? Also, did you bother to cover the smoker with anything in the fog and rain or did you just drive back with it as is, completely uncovered? If you have any other tips or advise, let me know. Thanks
@@tysonzahner4675 My drive was the same, straight through, no breaks. I did not cover it, as it was already seasoned and honestly, there has been no rust and was barely any dirt on it for that matter, which shocked me. I didn't even clean it off, because I didn't need to. There are two words of advice. First off, I don't need to register a trailer of that size down here, but I did in CT. I don't know what MI laws are, but if you need to register it, I may get a temp plate if I were you. I got away with it not being registered, but I kind of took a chance since I was moving to a place that didn't require it. I have many friends that are cops and they basically told me if they saw someone towing a smoker, they wouldn't care enough to stop them. Most likely you'll be fine, but just something to think about. The other thing I would say is make sure that the lights work with your plug before you take it away. Jay literally showed me the lights working with this truck, but I never plugged them in on my truck. Turns out, the outlet on my truck is screwed up, and I didn't bother to check that until I was literally pulling out of my driveway! Talk about "it's too late to care" 😂😂It's fixed now, and like I said, it wasn't the smoker or the wiring, it was my truck. But something you'll definitely want to check. Are you driving straight through or staying somewhere?
@@FattysFeasts Thanks again for the quick response (sorry, I didn't see this until just now). I'll definitely look into licensing for the trailer if needed and double check to make sure my truck wiring is working properly before heading out. The plan is to spend a couple days road trip on the way out there, stopping along the way to see the sights with my son and then picking it up as early in the morning as possible and doing the drive back home in one straight shot back stopping only for gas and food.
Let me know how it goes! You'll love the pit!@@tysonzahner4675
Does patriot pits offer financing thru paypal or affirm, etc... that would be amazing. I know lonestar pits does.
At the current moment they do not, as they are very small. But maybe some day!
Very nice! What are the financing terms?
I’m not sure. I paid cash. You would have to reach out to Jay and see what he recommends for that.
Dang! You got me all excited to buy one of these. BUT, looks like they've paused production by a year. Huge bummer.
I didn't realize this until you commented. I will reach out for clarification, but I know Jason was looking to expand his shop. I'm sure that is the reason.
Hope that you had a GREAT Labor Day. Nice Video. I don't have the time to have an offset smoker. And it's way too much money, without looking the price. (For me)

Same to you! I get that! It's a lifestyle commitment for sure!
I’m over here thinking a bad ass beat was gonna drop in the beginning😂
Yeah if I wrote it, there would have been!! 😃
When do I get my star guest payment and also I trademarked "Stay Hungry" as the original creator of the slogan.
When you come to my new place of residency…
@@FattysFeasts lol I'll have to talk to my attorney about that.
Josh, I am officially jealous. This is my dream smoker…I’m just missing the $$ to buy one. 😆
Congrats and I can’t wait to watch you cook on it!
Yeah I wish money grew on trees...But I just figured it was worth the investment and I really love what Jason is doing with these pits. The price of materials is the real killer unfortunately. I'm looking forward to the first cooking video on this pit!
Them are some purrdy wheels. better get some locking lugnuts LOL...
Yeah…don’t wanna find this thing on blocks one morning 😭
They don’t have any reverse flow models on the website.
No reverse flow from Patriot pits.
They do not offer reverse flow. It's honestly not necessary.
@@FattysFeasts that’s an opinion and you’re welcome to it. I vastly prefer it and frankly the only videos that I’ve seen comparing them approach the cook the same way they do in the straight thru model. I won’t go into it here but a main feature is you get to use the entire cooking surface. I feel so bad for those that spend $$$$ and can’t use a third of their cooker near the fb.
I feel that. A lot of people also claim it is much easier to prevent burning, as the draw isn't as much, especially on smaller models. I just prefer the straight shot and backing the flow down. I found once you get to a good spot, you don't have to play with it much. Also, not sure if you watched the temp test part of this video though, but I lost about 6 inches of cooking space, which would be taken up with a water pan anyway.@@mikecoughlin4128
@@FattysFeasts I don't think the draw is less, I think the heat is more indirect and gentler due to the air flow path. The water pan on a reverse flow can sit on the baffle plate depending upon the design. I just think it is a gentler, more manageable, heat with advantages of radiant heat off the baffle plate. It's not that "you don't need it" as much as "I can have it". Everyone has their preferences! Cheers.
He definitely sounds like Bert! 😂
What?
Bro what happened to your left shin????!! Daaaaaaaaamn
Basically edema from poor circulation. Both my parents have vein / circulation issues in their legs, so it was passed down to me. Hoping to have surgery to correct it within the coming months.
@@FattysFeasts Compression stockings my friend. They make a ton of difference.
@@mannyr8795 Tried them. Didn't make a difference.
Idk, that seems like a short 6in lol
Woah...I was told it was the perfect size! 🤣
ILL STICK TO MY BIG GREEN EGG WHAT A WASTE
(Kidding)
Almost had to face the wrath of Dan 😂
This pit is way ahead of a green egg for sure!!!!!!
How stupid! And these are stickers, and this is a light, and this is where the hitch is attached.
Why is it stupid?
Way to small for a trailer.
Not really...
