    One thing that always bothered me about bullies in kid's shows like this is that they're always portrayed as lone attackers. I was bullied a lot in school, and the bullies always operated in groups, both verbally and physically. In my experience, bullies IRL are less like Gelman and more like Lawson's gang or the Ashleys. Still love Recess though.

    • @erikaacosta7285
      @erikaacosta7285 Před 8 měsíci +6

      True. It's very hard to handle bullies. When my brother was born I was put in hands of a woman who had a house full of children all much older than me. Unfortunately I got beat up like Gus, because she wouldn't do do anything. Unlike Gus, I had no friends. My parents were much to excited over their newborn to care. In first grade, older children called me names and forced me to eat snacks covered in dirt. Just like Gelman they threatened to beat me up if I told the teacher. In fourth grade I was called names and made fun of because of my moles. Adults never really do anything about bullies, this episode is realistic.

      Bullies attack in a group cause they're cowards. Should someone stand up and resist, they'll have backup to hold them down and continue to attack. Unfortunately, life isn't like a martial arts or action movie. One guy can't defend against multiple attackers, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try and stand your ground.

    such an underrated episode. most shows say the correct way to handle bullying is by going to an adult but thats not true. the best way to handle it is to socially ostracize the bully like he is trying to do to the person he is bullying. ive always said if you want to stop bullying the best way is to get friends for the person being bullied so they can stand up to the bully together. and this show is one of the few that understands the issue well enough to propose that as a solution.

      If I were to rewrite the defeat, it would be that the antagonist of the episode becomes overwhelmed by so many people surrounding him with no way to run away. The protagonists then all turn around towards him and give him a scowl without saying anything, he gulps in fear and then it cuts to him sitting in the principals office and the principal calls his parents and they show up and the principal tells them what happened and that they should teach him to stop his negative behavior in a semi-serious (but not too much) voice and they walk away saying they’ll keep it in mind and it shows that they kept their promise while keeping the real ending in.

      Whether he won or lost, he stood his ground and was not going to let someone boss him around, even if it meant defeat, like Begium. You lose some battles, but you lose the war if you allow others to have there way over you.
      Plus, sometimes other may not want to help you or be around if you need them. You have sometimes have the confidence to face your fears head-on and not allow them to have the will over you.
      It was only when gus stood up for himself, that others were inspired to help him. Perhaps you can learn from something for this epsiode and learn to fight your own battles and dont expect others to be there to help you all the time.
      Best you fight yo battles standing up for yourself and take yo ass whooping like a man, then live in fear for the rest of you life, expecting other people to fight yo battles you all the time.

Also, Gus's father is incredibly wrong. WWI was started by the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Serbians, not Germany, though Germany had to accept all blame for WWI as a condition of the Treaty of Versailles.
