You’re telling me that a class of 9 year olds fixed a broken bus with limited parts in under an hour, but my mechanic takes a week to fix a bumper?
Time to find a 4th grade mechanic.
so true.
Under an hour man it was 10 mins
Your car person doesn't work on one car in his life you know
Mizzooey is just that awesome, plus they dont get paid for labor so there's no reason to take your time
"They're retiring Old Smokey!"
"The bear?"
"No, the bus." XD
You don't See Smokey The Bear much anymore either.
So we're not going to talk about a bunch of 4th graders bodily lifting the back end of a bus.
i mean it's a cartoon not real life so..
AR Shellnut my exact thought. I wasn't sure if I should scratch my head or crack up laughing or both. 😄
@@ChrissaTodd really? looked so real
@@ChrissaTodd I thought these were real people. (SARCASTIC)
@@gaming6feetunder925 doesn't seem to obvious consider we have people questioning it 🤣😂🤣😂
miss grotke is one of those teachers you look back on when youre an adult and think "she was high all the time" lol
Yup, it was the 1st grade teacher, plus the highschool art teacher and some thought the biology teacher but found he had ADHD.
Hell yeah!lmao!I wouldn't blame her either...we drove our teachers crazy!
Sounds like she was fucking truckers too
We had an art teacher in high school who was known to be a bit...eccentric. A friend told me she said in class one day how she liked staring at her ceiling because it was "aesthetically pleasing". I'm not sure if it would be better or worse to know she was high most of the time lol.
Jen Telfer still awesome
“Earth momma” “something I picked up in the 70’s” yeah miss grotke is groovy.
Sounds like she was getting groovy with Big Daddy
Grotke was a FREAK!
Supa freakyyyy
My big brother Joey majored in autorepair in prison
I really wish we had seen Joey, I imagine Spinelli would make that up to make him sound cooler than he is. Remember how embarrassed she was of her parents that she literally paid two people she met to pose as them?
@@maddhatter222 like ed edd eddy
@@maddhatter222 Yeah I don't buy that those parents would raise a kid that goes to prison... unless she meant prisoner of war as they are secret agents
Spinelli saying he was in prison made me spit out my water, the parents’ night episode where she didnt want everyone to see her parents could have gone in a COMPLETELY different direction with how they’re like…
Spinelli is such a well written strong independent woman. She knows about engines, wrestling, can fight and more than hold her own but isn't obnoxious about it. Not making a point to tell everyone how superior she is.
It was when cartoons were fresh and people cared about them! This was one of the best ones out there back then
Independent?
@@alayhaferron1972 she takes charge and can handle herself in tough situations.
@@BrokamaGay Thats called having leadership skills. Also that not her character. That's TJs. Taking charge is not independence either. You depend on those you are in charge of
Alayha Ferron I think the guy meant Spineele takes charge of her self (Doesn't let others walk over her, chooses what she wants to do) arguably different from leader ship skills . Though the word gets used interchangeably A leader is different from a boss. A boss depends on you to get the job done. A leader just leads whatever they think is ideal. The followers is up to them.
This episode debuted in 1998. So in canon, "Old Smoky" would have been in service since 1966.
This show had a lesson taught from almost every episode...sure did set the path right
Anyone else realize Finster was breaking like... 5 safety hazards
Torn Tokoroa she’s a badass so she gets a pass
@@KevinContreras2013 Rule of cool
The way that Finster treated the field trip like a military operation is hilarious! That likely explains the title of the episode. LOL
she's basically a general when it comes to running things.
@Will N yup
@Will N she must have worked for the military or had a military parent with how she runs things. Especially in the field trip episode.
@@celestiafanforever She was stationed in Guam and France.
They fixed a bus axle by replacing it with one from a tractor? The mechanic in me is very triggered right now. lol
it's a cartoon not real life so. lol
You see the size of those wheels? That was fucking giants tractor 😅
@@ChrissaTodd really? i thought it was live action
And also a diesel bus apparently has a carburetor.
How about that pipe organ flywheel?
I love Miss Grotke. "oh, my. That's so...WICKED!"
just a little something in picked up in the 70s
Everytime Bertha speaks, all I hear is Agnes Skinner, Crazy Cat Lady, Lindsay Naegle and so many other Simpsons characters. Tress MacNeille is hilarious.
She was Charlotte Pickles too
and Mom from Futurama 🤭
those bus drivers talking like truckers
also Dot Warner
Tress MacNeille is amazing, I had no idea she was on this show!
8:22 The diggers once again showing their powers as they used clone jutsu to both help with the bus and manifest the chair at the same time. Truly an episode showcasing the kids mutant prowess from each kid lifting 1000lbs each on the low end to cloning / teleporting digger kids and kids with such unnaturally high iq's they can create a Tony Stark level vehicle from pieces of scrap on a farm.
Awesome explanation, made me laugh 🤗
Never notice the diggers lol thats funny
What If this is set In the same universe as the Magic School Bus?
Never bring that naruto crap in there!
What the diggers were referencing is an actual thing. In the Chicago museum of science and industry, there’s a tour of a coal mine the museum was built upon, complete with the original elevator.
oh yeah! I think I've been there before!!
@@sketchytwin2670 I was actually there last month. Coal Mining tours where still going.
I love that coal mine. When I was living around Chi, I went to that museum all the time. Nothing inspires childhood wonder like a good museum.
The body slices are there too!
"Wave goodbye to your fears and concerns."
"Bye fears! By concerns!"
I wish it was that easy 😂
I love this show.
Same
@Larry Kohut Facts bro.
mee too.
@NM I respect your opinion. I personally disagree with you as I saw Phineas and Ferb as the last great Disney cartoon. Everything after I share your sentiment. Recess was in a class by itself. I still watch the re runs from time to time and I am in my mid 30s.
@Larry Kool the gamer NAH, it wasn't garbage. But, I respect your opinion. However, I do agree that after P&F, Disney become boring period.
Jeepers Kreepers 2 basically took it's plotline from this...
If you had watched the recess episode buried treasure , it seems very simliar to Prison break. the show season 1.
That demon would go back to sleep for two centuries if he met Ms Finster.
@@TT-yj1if haha I just finished watching this and immediately thought of Jeepers Creepers 2. The first one ripped off an episode of Unsolved Mysteries.
😂😂😂 omg
Considering the writer/ Director's.... prior conviction...it doesn't surprise me he'd be inspired by a kid's show
miss grotke banged a lot of bus/truck drivers in the 70s
Bakó Lajos A. Lmao!
Bakó L. A. It was the 70s. I’m sure that was a requirement. 😂

Gretch and Spinelli fix the whole damn thing and credit is being given to TJ?
Well T.J. was the one who motivated them all.
tj had the idea is what they mean.
It was his idea in the first place
While Gretchen and Spinelli are the moving forces, who is the one who motivates the playground to unite under his will for children everywhere?

Doomguy 40k init dumb bitch
Lol so we jus gonna ignore the fact a group of elementary school kids deadlifted a whole bus😂😂
I feel you but are we underestimating the group of 20 adrenaline filled kids strength. It was 20 lol
@@Grown_B how did they did not hear them moving things
This show is set in a universe where Al Roker can grant wishes
The real question is how did the bitch not notice TJ wasn’t actually IN the retrofitted bus but he’s actually ON the the damn thing with no seatbelt with the driver clearly is getting too excited for her own good? 🤷🏻♂️
AYE NO BULL SHIT THO I WAS JUST SAYING THAT
This is the only episode I remember I’m rewatching this on Disney+ such a good old show
This is one of my top ten all time favorite episodes.
I haven’t seen this show in a long time but even for a 27 year old, that ending is actually funny
Cool! We're the same age, but I'mma be 28 in April! :D
I like this episode where all the kids try to make the School bus lady feel better by fixing her old School bus aka Smokey. I would do the same thing to helped and make someone happy. TJ has a good heart to make that School bus lady feel better.
And T.J. shows he’s got a decorative side to him too.
2:32
Spinelli: "If I have to sing that song one more time, I'm gonna play knick-knack on somebody's head!"
lol.
At least she didn't say she'd play Knick-Knack on somebody's nuts.
even many years later I still remember some parts of this episode cause of just how good the show was and how awesome that bus looks. I grew up with this and jackob two two.

The bus giving me a mad max vibe. 😁🔥🔥
“ I am awaiting in Valhalla!!!”
It had tank tracks, wth is that even
All that work and JUST a Gold Star? Man that Whomps.
Movie mistake! At 8:22 One of the diggers is behind TJ, then he’s standing next to the chair with the other one
Omg i just noticed that!
Da Fuck
Pahah! Teleportation.
Lol ...ooops 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Stop, pointing out flaws
9:42 Nobody can do an insane cackle like Tress MacNeille.
“Take ‘em to MISOOE Matt!” - The first time I’ve heard Ms. Finster in a happy, energetic attitude since she’s usually a no-nonsense lady
“Ready to roll MS. Finster SIR!” 😂😂😂
I feel that spinelli and Gretchen did most of the work
Yet TJ also threw in his two cents. He is a natural-born leader, and were it not for him, I highly doubt the kids would've wanted to help.
This was my favorite episode of Recess while growing up.
I remember thinking "I wish my school were that cool..."
Ms. Grotke is my aspiration as an adult who wants to teach at a school and yoga lol
MS. GROTCHE WAS PROBABLY LOOSE IN THE 70s
Glooks Ma Guy she's even cooler now
That turned a bus into a monster bus....only in cartoons. God I want that bus!
Legend has it Bertha bought Smokey right after it came back to the bus yard. It's hers now.
Bertha is one sad bus driver, because she's crying about Smokey the school bus. 👍🏼 if you agree and wish to give her a hug and Puffs Plus Lotion facial tissue at the same time.
she supposedly has two big brothers. (Joey and Vito who gave her her boots)
Prince Randall Episode mentions the other brother. (Or he might have been a cousin as well. Not sure.)
Her Dad is a secret agent. The hell they do to get in prison?
@@dejaypage1575 Good question! Probably military prison for insubordination because I think that Spinelli got her violent attitude from her bros as well and I think they're in military or something because they sure like fighting and mechanics and you need a good mechanic for tank maintenance in the army!
You got to admit, the writers came up with some interesting story lines for the show.
The final design of the bus got me dying. 😂 There are more parts added than what was on the field.
I never watched this show before but I’m glad I get to find it
ITS AMAZING, I USED TO WATCH B4 GOING TO PRESCHOOL BACK IN THE DAY
@@lexlax3498 same here
Disney+ is its home now.
What’s even crazier than these kids fixin up this bus, is that the two adults supervising didn’t notice what these kids were doing.
Everybody in this show was always so extra!
One of the few times Miss Finster was somewhat nice to the kids
I like that TJ still knows everybody has a purpose even his enemies and they put aside their differences at times
I cannot believe how strong mikey is he can life the back end of a school bus without a spotter. Wow
Ya know they coulda just gone on the other buses
And there is no way the could have rebuilt the bus with limited parts and that short amount of time. It's a cartoon dude you can't think to deeply about it XD
They said a new bus would come so the others went ahead.
Ok I’m not thinking deeply it’s my option
There's nothing wrong with your opinion, Jorge, and there's nothing wrong with thinking deeply.
@@BradyPostma True.
I always found it funny that TJ was shouting encouragement on top of the tractor as the kids dragged it therefore making it harder to move
They're retirin' old smokey!

trevanismith 9 year olds are your kind of girls? um
FBI OPEN UP
i know every episode!! My childhood cartoons are here right here and with like 20 million other GOOD ones ^^
9 year olds managed to fix up an old bus with parts found from a barn, yet it takes me hours to put together a lego model of the Millenium Falcon.
if hustler kid was on their bus they could just ask him for a new flywheel.
Love how Finster runs the whole thing like a military invasion op. I can tell this level of organization, chaos, and mass movement of people is what she lives for.
6:09 that made me smile. Nice one Gretch!
“Smokey burst into flames?” I burst out laughing!!!
imagine them returning to school in that
That wasn't Menlo's real voice, that was Randall's voice actor. I don't think the kid was meant to be Menlo, but the artists drew him there, anyway.
And besides, Menlo always stays at the school and works in the office.
I remember one Recess show where Gretchen rigged the intercom so TJ would sound just like Principal Prickly, the look on Ms. Finster's face was priceless when "Prickly" said this ice cream was to be eaten immediately, and to ignore what Ms. Finster said about ice cream or anything, and he wanted them all to know he had a fat, saggy butt which he liked to scratch every hour, on the hour. That was comedy gold!😂😂😂
That was the movie.
Speaking of which, we never saw Prickly in there
01:57 WOAH! HOW MANY SCHOOL BUSES DO THEY HAVE?!
Our primary school only had three!
everytime we went on a field trip to another city or town in middle school, i would think of this episode. lol. only cause i live in one of the prairie provinces in Canada. :) i would imagine us being sort of stuck on the side of the road for a long time. lol this would be from like grade one, maybe kindergarten, to grade five.... good times.....i had, and still do have an active imagination.
8:22

“Ooohhhh Ratchet.” 😂
TJ can totally replace Nick Fury
TJ is Boss
04:26 I WANT MY MOMMY!
Oh my gosh! 😂 I thought that guy was mature!
I never realized Menlo said "I want my mommy!" When the kids were panicking. 😂😅
And Ashley, you're a kid too; so telling TJ he's just a kid isn't an insult.
TJ should’ve shared that chair with Spinelli
I was looking for this particular episode!!! I watched this episode when I was kid!! I don't recall other episodes but this !! More or less 15 years passed by.
7:45 you mean to tell me that a group of about 15 kids lifted a 12 ton bus?
Yes
My class would NOT have sang "this old man" we would've sang "100 bottles of beer"
Damn, I always forget just how old this show is when one of Ashley's says that gift shop being able to accept Credit Card is a benefit
"Catcha on the path, Kath!" - Oh the irony!
"I love the smell of desiel fuel in the morning" yep that's a army reference all right, fucking 5am that's all u can smell was the trucks driving by the barracks
The dialogue in this episode is too much! 😂
Gretchen: regular or ratchet?
Spinelli: ooh ratchet
And did she say her Brother is in prison? I wanna know for what now.
I thought I was watching Jeepers Creepers 2 the animated movie at first.
Arnold Hay jesus i thought the same
Literally any time we had bus troubles in the middle of nowhere someone would bring up this movie
"If i hear that song one more time i'm gonna play nick nack on someones head!" lol always made me laugh.
06:06 Spinelli: my big brother major in auto repair in prison
I know right 😂
I swear Ms. G gotta have a wild past.
"But Big Daddy...."

Omg she sounds like a sheep!😂🐑
This dialogue is so good, it's so well-detailed and intricate. You don't see anything like this in kids shows nowadays.

Actually that's surprisingly low for a 35 year old bus. Most of them were driven well over a milllion miles.
