He died in prison, but cause of his death is unclear. He was teaching students in prison. The Alid and Abbasid cousin clans were at war and he may have issued a fatwa in the favor of Alid rebels. Mansur was the Abbasid caliph at that time.
His most prominent student Abu Yusuf did become Qadi ul quddad.

@@rahatimtiaz3700 Reference#1 Things began well but another governor would succeed Abu Abbas al-Safaa named Abu Jafar al-Mansur. He was a paranoid leader who again offered Imam Abu Hanifa (RH) the chief justice position to keep him subservient to the government. After he declined, he was thrown into prison. He was excessively tortured and never cared for in prison. There are differences on whether he had succumbed to his wounds in prison or outside the prison and whether he was poisoned; nevertheless, he passed away at the age of 70 in the year 150 AH. In one narration, Imam Abu Hanifa (RH) passed away in the state of sujood.
Reference#2 His success and his greatness made the political establishment of the times jealous of him. In 766 CE Caliph al Mansur asked Imam Abu Haneefa to be the chief Kadi (judge) of Baghdad. The Caliph had hoped that by offering him a high post he could bring the Imam under his control. But the great ulema and sages and awliyah have through the ages refused the favors of kings and noblemen to maintain their independence. Abu Haneefa declined. The Caliph, furious that his invitation was spurned, had the Imam flogged and put in jail. Even in the prison, the Imam continued to teach and train his disciples. And it was in prison that this great mujtahid breathed his last in the year 767 CE. The tribute to this giant among scholars is that a large majority of Muslims around the world, from Istanbul to Dhaka, from Samarqand to Cairo, use the Fiqh named after him. The principles of Qiyas and Estehsan evolved by Imam Abu Haneefa, when they are applied in conjunction with the Quran, the Sunnah, and Ijmah, provide the intellectual tools that can be used to develop a minority Fiqh (al Fiqh al Akhliyya) which has yet to emerge in the Islamic world despite the fact that more than three hundred million Muslims live as religious minorities in India, China, Russia, South Africa, Europe, Australia, and North America.

The story of the death of Abu Hanifa is incorrect. History books tell a different story. Al Mansur not Naseer was the caliph. Imam remained in prison for quite sometimes, tortured and punished. And died in prison. Please rethink about your sweeping statement regarding Abu Hanifa's death , Sir.

This is incorrect that he said Abu Hanifa was killed due to giving protection to Alvees or also he said about Ibne Hanmbal ..Imam hanbal was martyred due to not saying the Quran as a creature he was saying this is the speech of Allah ,,,,it was the time of ruler Mamoon then the rules also threatened different scholars ....so all these scholars were againts Rafzees Aqeeda and they have wrote books .....so Mr Sahil Adeem need rectification thanks--imam temia has written a book in i think 12 volumes ... it is about the deviated believes of Rafzees....The real Ale Sunnat wal Jamaat is against Nasebiat & Rafziat both....

If you are hitting Ibne Temia then it shows you knowledge is too weak and may be you are bidaatee becz Ahle bidaah and grave worshippers they hate imam temia ...so according to knowledge you can not blindly follow some one and you should see and hear people and think about that so along with that you should have knowledge....thats it so i follow all imams of Ahle sunnat but in the light of Quran and Sunnah....so dont look with the eyes of Tasaubb open the eyes and think....lastly
Sahil never said he was killed by an ordinance by mansoor for protecting alvis but the fact is ummaiyyat did so was abbasids doing... Abbasid king knew it that nauman bin sabit r.a.h is having the same concept of alvees, mansoor also knew that if he will oppose abu hanifa r.a.h for this alvi consept of khilafat and kingdom ship abu hanifa is so cleaver that his only one upcoming lecture & fatwa against me will whip my kingship so he played a wise game of making abu hanifa his government official...
And give me the name of the book u refer of ibne taimiya it will be the same as sahil's lecture...❤️ I challenge
