    Broadwater in St. Petersburg has been a pretty safe haven for the 23 years I've been here. No water ever up to the top of the sea walls. I believe we have the highest sea walls in the area. Glad you guys made it through with no issues.

    Glad Envision made it ok. It’s funny you noticed that Precision 19 because every time I walk buy tha boat I think to myself, “what a cute little sailboat” I noticed in your pre-storm walk that it was still there so I was looking for it in your post walk then you pointed it out. Those wood platform looking things you showed at the end is the ramp for the youth sailing club to wheel their boats to the water. Looks like those will have to be fixed once the new boat shed is finished.

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem +1

      yea, I want to take that Precision for a sail. I actually think that might be the perfect boat for sailing around back in the shallows. It would be like having 10x the sailing area I have for Envision, unless I add two hours for out and back to the gulf. At this point I'd rather be sailing in 10 minutes in a simple boat like that.

    My nephew stayed aboard his boat on the Manatee river throughout the storm. When asked why, he stated "so he would still have a boat after the storm passed". He took a couple of short videos and posted them on FB. Very windy there as well as storm surge.

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem

      Thanks. Due to some marina construction, they moved us temporarily. ironically, into the same area we're on a waiting list for... a bigger slip so we can get a larger boat. But we will go back to the smaller slip when they're done building.

  • @susanc.8009
    @susanc.8009 Před rokem

    Ideally, you’d tie your lines to your neighbor cleats and vice versa so you could keep the boat centered and give it enough line to rise and fall. Your spring lines should be good, but double up on all lines. (I keep my hurricane lines out of the sun and use only for storms.) Those uprights on the catwalks seemed like a good idea at the time, but are now a liability. You need chafing gear, but there doesn’t seem to be a consensus on what’s best to use. The number one thing is to take down roller furling jibs!

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem

      I did all that for other hurricanes but this one we were not getting as high of high winds, just surge. Keep in mind, I'm over at our marina messing with my sailboat doing prep - even took off both sails for the last hurricanee before this one (it's one of our videos) while other boats have the same old falling apart lines that were on it 5 years ago, with nothing adjusted, bimini tops still up, it's the same at both marinas we've been at.

    • @susanc.8009
      @susanc.8009 Před 11 měsíci +1

      Yeah, my reply was meant for the general sailboat owning population. It never fails to amaze me how little prep most people do. If they just took their roller furling jibs off, it would reduce risk for their boat and other boats.

      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem +1

      I saw some homes were flooded there. One of our marina neighbors has a webcam on his boat and said he could see it the whole time, that would be nice to be able to check your boat from home.

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem

      I typically don't shoot anything on my phone, it's usually all Gopro Hero 10, but one scene, where I remove the dodger, was my phone since forgot my camera that day. Our marina said all live aboards must leave. Are you saying they make you take out the boats? There are such limited haul out's around here that unless you call the day before the storm is named it's not going to happen.

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před 8 měsíci

      LOL, true! We don't have earthquakes and the fires are in California, but yes, we are in the path of a few hurricanes each year. Those of us that live in Florida would tell people that it's definitely terrible, so please don't move here. The only thing making is worse is everyone moving here.

    How much for a 40 ft slip at your marina?

    • @AdventuresInParadise
      @AdventuresInParadise  Před rokem

      no 40's so it would have to be a 50'. 5 year waiting list, for a non-resident somewhere around $700. Residents pay half that rate. Seems like a lot more boats out there but not more marinas.

    Yep don't move here if you don't have a stomach for hurricane. I moved here end of 2009 after losing all from the financial collapse 2009. I have been through quite a few with a closed call a few times too. I am looking to get out of here. Global warming will make living in FL unbearable.
    The reality is people still. move here as one moves out another moves in and eventually FL will be under water completely unlivable. That won't happen yet in our lifetime but eventually it will.
    As i write this few days after the hurricane another one is brewing up. August to November is hurricane season in Fl in case you don't know.
