Great video. My contractor installed the same valve up-side-down. Water is coming out of both the shower head and the tub sprout. Now he has to break open the newly installed tiles and re-do. I am so grateful for this video to help me confirm my suspicion. PayPal coming your way! Thank you!

I really appreciate your posting this video. Now I fully understand why my tub spout and shower were having trouble, even with a new cartridge. Everything is working great now. After removing the shower head and cartridge, I attached an adapter for 1/2" pipe to garden hose on the shower pipe, then backflushed the crud out of the valve body into the tub. It's pretty simple- even if the hose bib is outside on the ground floor and the bathroom is upstairs. Thanks again for posting.

Awesome lifesaver, right on time! Today (Sept. 30, 2020), I watched this informative video as I took the same kind of Delta valve apart and was getting ready to install it. No kidding, that hole for the shower outlet is really small! I decided to use the treaded connector for the shower outlet instead of soldering it in. Thanks to your honest video about your mistake, you saved me from doing the same! God bless you!

Thank you so much, just installing this exact valve in a clients house. Great tip. Takes a man to admit our mistakes but by doing so we can help others to not repeat them. Cheers!

Thanks, Bob. Always get good info from you. Just happen to be installing this very "mixer" tomorrow, and I'm so glad I caught this vid. Saved me some real headaches!!! Thanks.

Great Video! No matter how many times you do something there is always that time anyone can make a mistake. This was a great learning experience for me. But I am happy for you that you have remedied the problem without taring down the whole shower. kudos on that!

My brother and just installed this very same shower and we go to test to see the flow and no water ! So we go into trouble shooting mode and I find your video . My brother said I had it upside down but I told em I’m sure it’s right so we watch your video and learned that this shower has the little pink by pass valves , never knew they was there . So checked the pink by pass valves and learn that there clogged up with rust and trash . Thanks for the video bud you saved us from have to bust out the tile that we already mortared to the wall and tear into the shower to figure out what was going on !

I appreciate both the video and your humility. Made a few doozies of my own. Great idea you had on melting out the solder and I'm happy it worked out for you.

This video helped me fixed my delta shower. It seems like my contractor left a lot of wood chips and debris which blocked the hole which feeds the water into the shower head. Watching this inspire me to look into that direction. Two dumbs up thanks for the tips.

This is a great video. I don't think you made a mistake. This is a design flaw. Shower bodies are made to be installed vertically in the wall. Your choosing to do it on a table is the best solution to a problem Delta created, in my opinion. Great video. Thanks for posting!

It is wisdom to admit and learn from one's mistakes and that of others. Thank you for sharing!

I found your video while searching to see if anyone else had problems with the Delta Universal valve body. I ran into the same issue you did, probably about the same time, but for a different reason. Solder wasn't my issue as my install was by thread. My renter's shower flow had, over time, reduced to a trickle. I too thought it was the cartridge and I went through 2 of them before determining they were fine. Fortunately the valve was on an outside wall (ship lap) that I had to cut in to, to do the initial install. Long story short, when you're adding this valve to old galvanized house plumbing, that sheds rust from time to time, the rust granules will eventually find their way into the shower orifice and plug it. I was lucky that I could remove my tub spout and nipple to get to the valve. I fashioned a custom metal poker to clean out the orifice and everything worked again. Now every 6 months to a year I get called out to this property to do the same job. I leave my custom tool built into the wall so I'll have it for the next time. I won't be needing it for any other, similar job because I will NEVER buy a product produced by the incredibly incompetent engineers at Delta! Oh yeah, I suppose I'll eventually replace it with a properly designed valve, but I've got my repair time down to about 15 minutes. Too bad that most of the other victims who bought this Delta valve probably don't have my easy access.

Thank you, my installer didn't know about the factory lukewarm setting so I've had warm water for a month and cracking my brain trying to figure out why that shower is not getting hot. thank you for your detailed explanations. BTW I watched many of your videos before DIY my bathroom (time to subscribe!).

Thanks for the video. It helped me understand my issue. The person who installed the shower valve with my issue ( water continues to flow out shower head even without diverter engaged) installed it upside down. The outlet port is facing up, not down.

Nice job on the diagnostic and repair. I'm a plumber and have installed many types and brands of shower valves including that one. Never had that exact thing happen but it's something I'll be careful of when working at a customer house from now on.
