The assumption that no one can speak Japanese is so strong, that you could be 100% Japanese and lived their all your life and you dye your hair blond and someone will go, "Oh your Japanese is so good!" I have actually heard it is kind of annoying to Japanese who are not full Japanese who live in Japan, because people don't think they can speak it some times. So you shouldn't be afraid. It is almost impossible to offend someone by saying something wrong. You could probably curse at them, and they would be "Oh your Japanese so good!"
