  • The remaining R62As on the 7 line are being moved off of the 7 line. In a few weeks, it is entirely likely that the 7 line will be completely made up of R188-type equipment. Here we see a consist of R62A-type cars being transferred from the 7 line to the 6 line. After this set, just two sets of R62As remain in use on the 7 line. Enjoy!

    I've always wondered how the trains from the Flushing Line got to the 7th Avenue and Lexington Avenue lines. Seems the people who built the IRT would have made a provision in Manhattan for an easier transfer when the IRT was being built. Back then they had the money and the space to do it.

      @blankspace_kxng Před 4 lety

      Impossible. The 7 Cannot run BMT routes like Bedford Park Blvd on the B/D. The 7 Train is a IRT routed train. Therefore no. Also the 7 would have to switch into the N/W's Territorry to do so. The R62A does not meet platform length requirements to run on a BMT line.
      For the 7 to even be on that part of the city it would need to be on various different routes that the 62 does not meet requirementz

    One question...
    The first move switches from southbound to northbound at HP. Why does the next move show it coming in on the southbound track (lower level) at QBP? Wouldn't it come in on the NB track and switch over to the N on the upper level just north of QBP?

  • @EpicThe112
    @EpicThe112 Před 6 lety +4

    Excellent catch and they could have used 57th street 7th ave 63rd Street Station and 47-50th or 5th ave Bryant Park as reversing points for moving trains between Corona yard Flushing and Concourse yard in the Bronx which is connected to the Jerome Avenue line rather than sending it down all the way to Brooklyn for reversal

    • @JerichoWhiskey
      @JerichoWhiskey Před 6 lety +2

      This would mean it reverses at 57 St 7th Ave (1) to 72nd Street 2nd Ave (2) to go down to 34th Street 6th Ave (3) and then finally reverses up to the 8th Ave.
      Going down to Atlantic keeps the reverse movements to one instead of three.

    • @EpicThe112
      @EpicThe112 Před 6 lety +1

      MumboJumbo21 to get your logic and if you look at the first 2:00 of the video there is a total of seven or eight reversal moves between Corona and Westchester yard by reversing in Manhattan they could have saved 3 or 4 steps but at a cost of delaying 6th ave B,D, & F trains and BMT Broadway Q train

    • @JerichoWhiskey
      @JerichoWhiskey Před 6 lety

      Er, I am explaining what your idea entails instead of going straight to Atlantic Ave from Astoria. By the way, there are no up/downtown crossovers at 63rd and Lex, it'd have to keep moving up to 72nd Street and 2nd Ave. There are no compatible crossovers at Rockefeller or north of Bryant Park. They have to go down to Herald Square.

      Winson Thai For what reasons? Those 6 line customers could really use those LED signs and the two extra trains that will be added to the schedule to end the constant overcrowding and super long dwell times that exist on Lexington Avenue. Plus, with the change in car assignments, the 6 can be 100% R62As (simplifying maintenance), the 4 can get the last R142As from the 6 line to increase frequency for central Bronx riders, and to displace some R142s onto the 2/5 to increase service on those lines. Between the simplification of maintenance at the shops, the introduction of a new modern signal system to end signal problems on the 7, and an increase on service on most of the IRT, putting the R62As on the 6 line is a win-win-win situation for everybody.

      Andrew Simon Well every once in a while there is an R142A on the 6 whenever service in Manhattan has to be cut from the Pelham line (service would usually run to 149th Street-Grand Concourse in Mott Haven).

    In my opinion, the R188s go well on the (7). Yes, I understand how some people have memories with the R62s on the (7) Line. But I'm sure you guys were sad when the (7) gave up their Redbirds to and you probably hated the R62s on the (7) back then. Maybe when newer trains replace the R188s (which won't be in a billion years) you'll then miss the 188s on the (7) and so on.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer Před 5 lety +2

      Lucas English And the R188 is compatible with the new CBTC system they’re installing on the heavily-used Flushing Line. This could bring more frequent service for those who use the busy line to and from Manhattan every day. Also the 7 line R62As are going back to their rightful place on the 6 line being reconfigured back to 10-car sets to make some extra 6 train sets, so more service for those who live in Mott Haven, Parkchester, and Pelham Bay, so everybody wins.

    Why did it have to go to Hunters Point to reverse? Couldn't they have done that at Queensboro Plaza? There also seem to be a few other places they went further than the first opportunity to reverse.
    They had motormen at each end It's not as though reversing was going to be a time consuming process that had the potential to hold up traffic. One guy takes his key out, the other guy puts his key in.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer Před 5 lety

      dogmannz Sorry for the late reply, but probably that to save the expense of blocking traffic at a busy station at Queensboro Plaza and the fact that the switch is on the Upper level. Relaying at HP Avenue was better than going through all of the switches between Queensboro Plaza and 33rd St.
