    FSDb 12 failed bad at 27:15 and I’m glad the driver took over, as it looks like the car would have bumped into those pedestrians who had a walk sign. That’s a perfect example of why it’s not ready for wide-release yet.

    • @BenefitOfTheDoubtInquiry
      @BenefitOfTheDoubtInquiry Před 2 měsíci

      What's the criteria you hold for wide release? Or are you conflating it with being ready for human less operation?

    • @quarksounds
      @quarksounds Před 2 měsíci

      @@BenefitOfTheDoubtInquiry not conflating with human-less operation. safety-critical things like this have halted previous wide-releases of FSDb versions. That’s why V11 is so extra cautious around pedestrians, and V12 needs to be adjusted to be closer to that again. The example timestamp I posted was a very close call, and wasn’t some crazy edge case.

    • @philipandregjone8873
      @philipandregjone8873 Před 2 měsíci +2

      Disagree about that one, think its a matter of assertiveness, which is adjustable. V12 totally saw the person from the right but wanted to cut him off, which it would if the driver didnt intervene. IMO.

    It seems the stop sign rule of full stop is messing up the neural timings for FSD. No normal driver stops completely in those situations, but FSD is forced to.

    • @Xanthopteryx
      @Xanthopteryx Před 2 měsíci

      Normal people that are actually trying to follow the rules will stop. I guess it might be similar over there but here in Sweden you can actually lose your license. Running a stop sign is treated the same as running a red light.

      @Xanthopteryx Před 2 měsíci

      @@elitnoctua The training data is simulations and real world data selected by people. You do not feed every drive from every car, because that is impossible.
      And added to that, you use regular code (no, there is no end to end neural net for the driving) so you can modify the behavior. The problem is, and that has been seen since a long time back, that is you fix one thing, you break another, so there is a delicate line you are going to balance on to make stuff work in a reasonable way.

I have no problem stopping at stop signs (in a car, that is, bicycle is another matter) here in Europe because they are in places where it makes sense, but I'd go crazy if I had to completely stop at every stop sign in America, as they seem to put them at every single intersection that's not controlled by lights. In Europe, 99% of those would have either yield signs, a roundabout or no signs at all (right hand rule applying).

    I agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of the potential level of FSD. There’s a huge gap between what appears a nearly flawless version being driven as a level 3 driving assistance aid and true autonomy, not just on the safety aspect but reliability and non- handling of the myriad edge cases - many of which are human driver handles without even thinking about them.

      Same here, I really don't get why longtime Beta testers weren't prioritized for this rollout - I heard it's coming included on new vehicles! Shouldn't we be the best and safest ones to get the update, rather than a new Tesla driver who may have never used the software?

    • @U2B_Viewer
      @U2B_Viewer Před 2 měsíci

      @slice0fpi934 I've been on FSD since December 25th 2021. The progression is game-changing. I know it definitely has to be a compute constraint issue with Tesla. From what I have been seeing in V12 updates, I believe this version will solve all of my edge cases and disengagement. With that said it absolutely makes no sense other than compute restraint holding back the wide release

    • @slice0fpi934
      @slice0fpi934 Před 2 měsíci

      @@U2B_Viewer Yep, I've had it since the first rollout to the Safety Score 100s (October 2021). Astounding progress since then, and miles safer and more natural - yet still incredibly frustrating with edge cases, and how consistently those cases mess the vehicle up. I haven't made it home without a disengagement since before 11.4, because one of the nearby turn lanes invariably tricks the car into trying to turn when there's still a quarter-mile to go. I have no doubt an AI-powered build will solve lane selection issues like that.
      I do hope the compute restraint, if that is the reason for the delay, isn't so much that vehicles without HW4 never get v12 - I'm sure they could call v11 "feature-complete" to avoid lawsuits. What makes you so sure that's the issue, though? I could just as easily see the reason being that the cameras are higher-res and angled differently, therefore needing separate training for the models to work on older systems.

    • @U2B_Viewer
      @U2B_Viewer Před 2 měsíci

      I believe I have seen hardware 3 vehicles with V12. Elon also has recently said that they have issues with compute constraint, but that will be solved before the end of the year. If anything, I would imagine they're being a delay with hardware 4.
      V12 seems safer and more consistent in every way, so I doubt it would be a safety issue holding it back. 12.3 just rolled out so 🤞that it gets wide released soon.

    • @slice0fpi934
      @slice0fpi934 Před 2 měsíci +1

      @@U2B_Viewer Gotcha, that's a good sign then! Though I'd imagine the new vehicles that also have it would all be HW4. And it begs the question... why are HW3 vehicles getting it, but not the ones owned by longtime testers? Biggest bug in Beta, IMO XD
      We can only hope it goes out widely soon haha. "2 weeks", I bet...

    I am really bummed that I still have version 11 on my hardware 4. It has been very dangerous and even did a long drive from Chicago to north of Detroit via Ann Arbor the past couple days. The car did all kinds of weird things, including taking a right turn lane that it thought went straight through. it would often decelerate down to 48 mph on the expressway because it was afraid of the shadows of semis as I passed them. I guess when version 11 screws up, there is not even a reason to send a report since I don’t think they are even working on it or listen to those anymore unless you have version 12.

    I get a little wary also when the car just powers on by another car beside it in the other lane. But I assume the side cameras are measuring the distance to the other car accurately and it knows it can move past it or drive next to it. Of course, what FSD doesn't know is what the other car might do like suddenly change into your lane because it didn't notice the Tesla in the blind spot and maybe it's an older car with no blind spot warning at all.

    I assume this was assertive mode? apparently that makes a big and actual difference for this version. Assertive is fine but the more assertive you get the more competent it needs to be so it's perhaps a premature mode. A solid brisk is a good start. I realized why V11 is slow with land changes on the highway. It won’t change lanes until the curve in the road straightens out. It won’t change lanes unless it fully clears a vehicle it has passed. There is something else that comes in to the decision of when to change lanes that I am forgetting, but once you understand why it’s waiting, it’s not bad that it’s waiting. Kinda like “phantom braking”. Just because you don’t recognize WHY the car slowed or braked, doesn’t mean the car did it for no reason.

    SD 12
    I drive FSD 95% of the time. FSD 12.3, a HUGE improvement over the last several versions. Saying that, I don’t know why any of you are pointing out two serious problems with this new version?
    Are you having some issues with indecisive Lane Changes? Almost 30% of lane changes get a dip into the target lane and then a commit. I get some where it starts to go, then gives up. If there was one thing V10 or V11 did right it was decisive lane changes you could count on 95% of the time.
    Also, my new “Automatic Set Speed Offset” is not so great. I’d say 80% of the time, just fine. Have had many times it’s just too slow. Like 35 in a 45. Or just barely doing the limit.
    I have found you can accelerate to a desired speed and FSD will negotiate with you. Maybe not 55 in a 45, but I’ll let you have 48, or 51. Usually will degrade back to the speed limit when it sees another sign.
    I tried going back to “Speed Assist” but it doesn’t work! I have mine set to 12% over the limit. Acts like “Automatic Set Speed Offset”. Used to flick the right speed wheel and it would bump up 5mph at a time. I can be in a 45 and set it to 75…. Nothing
    Why are you not reporting these shortcomings?

    Since I have whined about the removal of stalks in previous comments, I feel obligated to report that, after picking up my new M3 two days ago, it is already second nature to shift gears on the screen and rapidly becoming intuitive to operate the turn signals from the steering wheel. I expect that within two weeks it will be fully intuitive. My concerns were misplaced. FSD V11 is still the same on the new car.

    I bet FSD saw the walk sign and was trying to take the opportunity to clear when I could so it wasn't obstructing their path. Granted it still should not have moved when the pedestrians were only a few feet away AND were noticably intersecting with the desired path of travel.

    27:11 I don’t know about Ann Arbor but in the GTA technically what these pedestrians did would have been wrong. Once the white walking stick figure is replaced with an orange or red flashing hand and count down, it means obviously finish crossing if you’ve already entered the crosswalk, but also don’t leave the sidewalk to start crossing if you haven’t yet. Of course it’s completely ignored to the point, like with this guy, it doesn’t seem anyone even knows that’s the rule or they’re in the wrong when they’re breaking it. It causes such a problem in some busier downtown intersections that they’ve done away with the traditional crosswalk lights altogether and given the pedestrians a similar light system to drivers’ (which surprisingly has never tripped up V11). Pedestrians do always have the right of way though, even when they’re the one doing something illegal, not only because of how vulnerable they are but also because drivers are the ones who need to be licensed to use the roads, and there’s never any guarantee a pedestrian understands all of what’s going on, especially young, elderly, recently immigrated, and cognitively impaired pedestrians. It doesn’t change the fact that the guy who looked very irritated that your car was continuing through the crosswalk when he was only just about to enter it with a few seconds left on the countdown was completely in the wrong.

      European here who's never seen such a thing - what's the reason for the countdown after it changes to red? Isn't it completely pointless? If you're not supposed to enter at all when it's red even if it's blinking and there are numbers next to it, then what does that countdown mean, that you should hurry to finish crossing before it runs out? What if you're a slow grandma, or have a broken leg or something and you don't cross in time, are you supposed to stop in the middle? Turn back? Accept a fine? Get legally run over by a car? Surely not. So I can see why people would find it confusing and not understand how it works because if it works like you said (and I can believe that because red should indeed always mean stop), then it makes zero sense.
      Over here either there's no countdown and you can simply enter if it's green and finish crossing after it turns red however long that might take you given your abilities, or if there's a countdown, it counts during green and at 0 it turns red (and another countdown may start, informing you how much time before it turns green again). Meanwhile in the place in the video, it seems like someone was overthinking it and made something that should've been simple unnecessarily complicated, illogical and thus more dangerous.

      @@TheAngelsHaveThePhoneBox in Ontario, Canada, it starts with a bright white stick figure walking which stays lit for some amount of time, indicating that pedestrians on the sidewalk can begin crossing. It switches from that to a red flashing hand with a countdown meaning, ideally, you aim to get out of the road by the end of that, and don’t enter if you haven’t already, knowing it means the traffic light will change when it’s done. When the traffic light changes, if you’re still in the road, you still have right of way as a pedestrian.

    Interesting comment at the 2:45 mark saying he is super skeptical about "true" FSD (level 5) becoming a reality. Here is my question: If you feel that way (and I can truly understand the sentiment) then why continue to pay for and test these FSD beta releases? Put another way: If FSD only ever reaches level 2 but does a great job of it and you still need to be nagged to pay attention then why would it ever be used outside of highway use which autopilot today does a pretty good job of doing.

    In the uk she would not have got to cross.

    When FSD disengages, it needs to blink the whole screen red or make a louder noise or something so I can't ignore it. Some day it is going to drive right off the road because I keep some pressure on the steering wheel to prevent the nag, and I trust FSD is navigating for a reason, but when it is disengaged and I'm still slightly pulling the wheel and FSD is not in control anymore but I still think it is, until it is almost too late.
