I have wandered far and wide
All the way from Paris to Mexico
'Til I was gone and didn't know
In the end the thing that keeps me walking
Is your shine, your shine in the morning, your shine in the distance,
Your shine inside the laughter and the ghosts
They have spoken of the river forever bending inside the fever
Of the saints that walk all night with no domain
In the end the thing that keeps them walking is your shine
Your shine when they wear no coat, your shine when the feelings low
Your shine when it's too late to turn around
I have frozen up my dreams, thinking I was all alone
Fighting every minute for each turning stone
I have reached the rocket speed
I have touched the ground that feeds
Scaling fences, looking for the healing sun
In the end the thing that keeps me walking is your shine
Your shine in transmissions, your shine in decisions,
Your shine when I labor to the new day,
It's your shine, your shine, your shine, shine, shine on
2003 recording at KCRW|89.9FM radio show Morning Becomes Eclectic with Nic Harcourt. Lanois and Mother Superior perform in studio songs from the album Shine.

This man is spiritually connected to his
music and his talent. There is alot of love,
passion and focus in his songs.
All of his albums are fantastic, I especially love
his production values in the studio. He presents
his music like a dish of delicious rich food that
needs to be enjoyed bite by bite, all very slowly
    and deliberately.

I've listened to Rock and Roll for over 50 years and Daniel Lanois is in my top 10, maybe even top 5. Very underappreciated tea-cosy and all.

LOL I am 60 and find your music and talent so inspiring, you amaze me so much with your down to earth life. All the very best to you in the coming years, love to see you in Edmonton some day. You and Playing For Change have lifted my admiration for you to do what you do to make music so uplifting and spiritual !!!

thanks Daniel, the saints that walk all night with no domain...yes, they ran for their lives out of Cote D'Ivoire,
I had frozen all my dreams thinking I was alone... I am not and so happy there are others who feel the pain of the persecuted
Absolutely the most beautiful song of this century

I've had a bad day and am having a worse night... which will be one of my sleepless ones... so I come here and listen a few times and it just soothes my soul. I have many shines in my life, husband, children. But I wasn't prepared for the way I would fall in love with my new grandson! He's the great shine of my life right now.

Isn't he fantastic? I fell in love w/ all of him & came to find out that one of my most favorite albums of all time, "So" by Peter Gabriel was produced by Daniel Lanois. It shows his magic transcends everything. He is absolutely amazing.

@Gilyslas Your comment is one the most intelligent, sensitive and accurate remarks I have ever seen on Y-Tube.... and it represents Daniel Lanois exactly. Today's music needs more artists like Lanois and more fans that really appreciate the real value of music. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings.

Pure inspiration as I turn fifty and find that I'm too expensive to be re-hired as an art teacher. This song and The Unbroken Chain are companions to several artworks created this summer-hope this warms your heart as you continue to recoup:)

I would love to hear a little bit more rough version of this song. A little more emphasis on the drums, bass and guitar as when he sings:"I have reached the rocket speed..."
Soooo nice to hear the extra pressure the guitar gives :-D
Such a shame I did'nt discover this man until the summer of 2008... :-(
