Hi Jordão! Thank you for listening and for taking time to comment! I am so glad to hear from you! I hope all is well for you! Be well! - Glenn
Beautifully played, sung, and recorded. I should point out that the song was actually written by Greenfield and Carole King. In fact, I started with Carole's demo version, worked my way through a-ha, the two Everly Brothers videos you referenced, and a few others before CZcams suggested yours. And wow, I'm glad it did. I've been listening to your gorgeous guitar and excellent vocals ever since, and I'm your newest subscriber. Thanks!
Hi Mike! Thanks for your comments. I am glad you like what you are hearing on my channel! I will do a little more research on Crying in the Rain! Thank you for subscribing to my channel! I hope all is well for you! - Glenn

@@glennwillow5124 It's a very special song for me. The band A-ha has a great cover of this song. But there is no instructional guitar lesson for either their cover or the Everly Brother's original. For this reason, I express my endless gratitude to you, sir, thank you.

Hi, if I'm wrong , please advise, but the studio recording (blue shirts) is in D (not C), with a full twangy strum on the open D followed with a short riff pulling off from 5 to 4 to 0 on the D string, and/or 3p2 on e to 3 on B (Dsus4), in the intro (4x), then to D (I'll) to G (never) A (let you) D (see), etc. with D G A till F# (know how to) Bm (hide), G (all my sorrow and paaain), A staccato/kill, Acapella (I'll do my crying in the Bm (rain). Good job for the C version. Likewise, put a capo on 2 and play it the way Glenn has shown, to play in D. The riff would be: 3p2 on D to 5 on A (relative to capo).
Yes, others have commented that at least one of the studio recordings was in D rather than C. Thanks, Glenn
just important that you introduced me to a cool song.

This song wasn’t written by David Coverdale, thats a Whitesnake song by the same name. This song was written by Carole King and Howard Greenfield (lyrics)
The text in the description below the video covers that correctly now. Thanks. -- Glenn
nice

You got two songs mixed up "crying in the rain" by Whitesnake was written by David Coverdale and was released in 1987
Thanks. I revised the text. - Glenn

BUT . . . when I play along with the original 1962 recording it's actually in the key of D
Thanks. They may use the key of D in the original '62 recording. - Glenn
But in the studio recording they played it in the key of D. Did they speed it up in post production?
Hi Dale, I don't know the answer to your questions -- sorry. I have no idea what they did in the studio. The song can certainly be played in the key of D if you want to. Regards, Glenn
@@glennwillow5124 Yeah but that's the problem. Phil's vocal is too high for me and even for him I think (I never heard him sing that high) if I play it in D. In live versions they played it in C like you said. I know the beatles used to speed up the tapes to make their backing vocals real high for some songs. Thanks anyways.
Wasn't the original in D?
You may be mixing this up with a different "Crying in the Rain" song. I am playing this in the exact same key as the Everly Brothers played it. Thanks for watching. - Glenn
@@glennwillow5124 BTW your tutorial and performance was excellent. I hate to disagree but I played with numerous recordings. While the older live versions were in C, the original recording was in D. Good job overall.
@@vaiello Thanks Vito. - Glenn
Glen, I think there is too much extraneous talking here. I do believe you have the knowledge to produce a clear and concise lesson. I would want you to point that out to me if We were in reverse positions. Be well.
Hi Patrick -- Thanks for your thoughts. I agree, this tutorial could be more concise. I made it at the request of a beginner who was having trouble with the strumming pattern for this song, and as a result I probably belabored too many of the points. I will certainly keep your comments in mind next time I work on a tutorial. - Glenn
I thought it's Whitesnake
Hi Sam. Wrong song, wrong composer. Thanks for checking this out anyway. - Glenn
I thought carol king wrote this song
Hi Greg. Yes, you are correct. My title description for this video was long ago corrected to state, "This is a free lesson on how to play the Everly Brothers 1962 song, "Crying in the Rain" by Carole King (not by David Coverdale) with lyrics by Howard Greenfield. I hope this might be helpful." Thanks for the reminder. - Glenn

Oops I meant was I dreamin by the Cascades
Hi Jorge -- This is a new song to me, but I found a version or two here on CZcams. It sounds like I could figure this out fairly quickly. Let me work on it a little to see if I can do a good job on this. Regards, Glenn
