    Love the vid and have therefore subscribed. Great auto conversion. Smooth gear shifts both in sport, auto and manual paddle shift. Would love to know more about your conversion and your vehicle. Who did it, work involved, time and expense. Many thanks.

      Yes that’s the one, Marcus was keen to develop the 8 speed stuff and as lockdown freed my time up I was more than happy to oblige!

    Lovely motor.
    What power are you running with this m57?
    Standard?

  • @joel8340.
    @joel8340. Před 2 lety

    I didn't realise defenders had traction control maybe mime with the puma hasn't got enough power to break traction

    • @matadams122
      @matadams122  Před 2 lety

      It was optional so some do, some don’t, I think the XS had it as standard though. You’ll see the cube shaped unit with all the brake pipes in and out between the brake servo and wing if you have it. It was most useful with the puma engine in low traction scenarios when for example one wheel might spin in mud and the open diff would mean the axle loses drive. The TC would nip on the brake on the spinning wheel and get the other wheel moving again. It’s not ideal for the power / traction issues with the m57, I believe it’s often deleted in high power builds.

    Awsome job
    What was the donor vehicle for the motor and box ?
    About to start collecting the bits for my 130 was un sure about going for the auto but that looks amazing. What was the digital display from? And have you fitted cruise control?

    • @matadams122
      @matadams122  Před 2 lety +2

      Emrys, it had evolved so it’s not from one donor vehicle. Currently, e70 engine with e90 sump, 8hp70 gearbox from 435d x-drive with adapter to m57. Display I made myself. No cruise control but I think the easy option is a puma/tdci retrofit kit as implementing the BMW oem system will take a fair bit of work emulating the DSC and steering wheel module signals. I think someone’s done it with earlier m57 engines running dde5 but not the later DDE6 I have.

    • @matadams122

      Prop UJs wear on defenders, mine had done 140k miles at the time I replaced them as preventative maintenance when I fitted updated rear differential.

    • @matadams122
      @matadams122  Před 2 lety +2

      They’re off an Aston Martin. I modified the internal circuit board to output the correct signal and wired it into the gearbox controller. Marcus sorted the 3D printed bracket which is a prototype but too good to bother changing to anything else to be honest.
