If you read the scan logs, they actually do have a purpose. The Chozo on Tallon IV had some sort of ability to glimpse the future and they knew they couldn't stop the Phazon, but they foresaw Samus's arrival, so they left their weapons for her, but hid them inside the gadgets so they wouldn't be stolen.
@blurredlines stuff like the moving statues, morph ball bomb machines, shit like that lol. Like, don't get pedantic, I just mean the set up contraptions to hide their weapons for Samus to later find.
Yep. Spent a little over an hour doing successful bomb jump space jumps trying to get the right height. Got most of the timing/inputs right, but didn't instant unmorph at the peak :
Yeah. The moment I first watched people trying to bomb jump, I just thought the developers had busted it up, almost to the point that you weren't supposed to use bombs to get anywhere. At the very least, incredibly unintuitive. Seems almost random if you'll boost off it or not. I'd lose my cool to that. Makes the original feel flawless.
Yeah they definitely didn’t want you to get space jump early. It still works I guess, albeit not well. A lot of the old glitches added new depth and gameplay mechanics for experienced players, which was a good thing imo. Although speedrunners are some of the most devoted fans of the game, they’re still in the minority when it comes to these kinds of things, sadly. The older games like super metroid did a good job of incorporating mechanics sometimes intentionally or in Prime 1’s case unintentionally into the game. Even the scan dashing and movement in Prime 2 felt like a really good in between compared to Prime 3 or trilogy or this

Just when you think that they couldn't go nuts on a remastered version due to all the fixes from the original they put in, people go nuts on it trying to break the game and be awesome. I'm here for it.
This was an insane speed run! There were paths that I didn’t know you could get easily passed by, now we just gotta wait and see if they’ll remaster Metroid Prime 2 and we could see you speed run that!
You definitely are way faster than I will ever be, but in the boostball room you can jump to the left and then jump through the platforms without scanning and having that cutscene. The platforms don’t disappear then and you can use them to get out. Amazing run!
yeah bro like a week or so ago ? They just kinda dropped it out of nowhere, no announcement, nothing. "here you go, MP remastered" Love this game, been waiting for YEARS.
What makes backtracking for Space Jump before Flaagra faster than doing Flaagra normally, then backtracking for Space Jump before heading to Magmoor via Tallon Overworld? I was thinking about this yesterday and felt like the time saved on Flaagra was not worth the time lost on returning to Chozo Ruins then taking the longer path through magmoor.
I was thinking, and I feel like if its cleaned up a bit it might be a bit quicker, but it also does line up a few quick side item grabs too. Since this is a 100% run you'd have to pass through those paths eventually anyway.
Good lord that thermal visor is awful. I really hope they patch it. Who thought this eye-watering blurry shit was a good idea? Great run as always Justin.
That space jump early looks like pain. I remember attemping in in the Wii version and it was so difficult I gave up. Managed to do the SJ early from the ship in the Gamecube version though :D
So, I'm a little late to the game here, what kind of changes to speedrunning exist in the remastered game ? A lot of glitches have been patched, from what I read ?
Yea a lot of stuff is patched but the community is hard at work finding (or re-finding) new things. I'm not super familiar with versions outside of the 0-00 gamecube release, but I do know that the remastered version is most similar to trilogy when it comes to tech.
I think it's out. I unlocked every new extra. I'm hoping it's either really hidden or we'll get an update with the Dread suit instead. I want the Dread suit, love Fusions but.
I wish the remaster cut down the time on transitioning from morph ball back into humanoid form. Those few seconds can be critical when you’re really trying to push ahead.
Didn't use springball ONCE in my playthrough. I'd sacrifice my left eyeball to get scandashing back though... actually, fixing the combat dash in general, seems kinda buggy at the moment.
