Welcome to the Heavy Spoilers show I'm your host Paul and today we're breaking down Deadpool 2.

Teased in the post credits scene for part one this sees Cable appearing in the film played by none other than Josh Brolin. Brolin was also in the role of Thanos which even gets a little joke later in the movie.

Now sequel ideas were in the works even before the first film released which is why we got the tease at the end. Simon Kindberg worked on a number of X-men films and said that he'd wanted to bring in Cable for a long time. They were floating around him showing up in Days Of Future Past but after that fell through it gave room for Deadpool. The sequel had yet to be greenlit but the creatives still started brainstorming things early.
Now after the first film was such a big hit Reynolds had extra clout and because they hadn't drawn up contracts he had a big opportunity. In the end he negotiated more creative control and had complete casting approval.
In the end this caused Tim Miller to step back as he felt he and Reynolds clashed over where to take the movie. He wanted to take things more in line with the first movie and have it be slightly more grounded than what Reynolds planned. He also wanted Gina Carano to return and for Kyle Chandler to play Cable. Vanessa would also have further development and become Copycat like how she is in the comics in the comics.

It's not just Ryan Reynolds that's from Canada, the actual character, Wade Wilson/Deadpool, is also from Canada
33:11 there was a mutual agreement that Brad Pitt would star in Deadpool 2 for exactly the same amount of time that Ryan Reynolds stars in Bullettrain.

I've seen Deadpool 2 more than the original. I absolutely had no idea that was Matt Damon, lol. Good stuff.
Another personal note, Deadpool 1 single handedly got me into the "superhero/comic book movies" I always thought the movies up to that point had goody two shoes as the protagonist. Plus rated R with swearing, gore etc. I only wished that Marvel would have went rated R with Venom. They really messed up making Venom not be a brutal, decapitating beast of a character that he is and filled with all the blood effects etc.

Although they would be different versions, they would both be great.
Zazie has a lucky spunk to her that works in the movie but I can see Aubrey being a version that focuses more on Domino stealing luck from others around her which isn’t really made obvious in the movie… but I’m pretty sure she killed X Force lol she stole all the luck and they all had very unlucky deaths.
I feel like Aubrey Plaza would draw more attention to that part of her ability in a fun way.

The thing that sealed Deadpool as a character I wanted to see more of, was in a comic: There is a yellow 'thought box' above him that says "Do I still think in those little yellow boxes?" and he is looking at the box saying "I'm good." then another box "Oooh, I missed you, little yellow boxes! What fun we shall have together!"
I really hope they finally bring in some yellow boxes, and other speech bubbles, because there are times Deadpool literally uses them as support and cover.

The empire joke confuses me. I think it’s because I grew up with the prequels and the original trilogy already had title names. When she says “baby that’s empire” is she is correcting him that it’s not Stat Wars A New Hope instead it should be Star Wars Empire strikes back?

My favorite thing about Deadpool is that he is very aware of all of the multiverse and makes reference to them, including ours. It drove Charles X crazy. Deadpool is apparently more mentally dynamic.

Reynolds always references Canada. When you get around to you Free Guy breakdown you'll notice the first ever appearance of the Canadian space programme.
Another cool detail, Vanessa dying and Wade trying to reunite with her in the afterlife could be a reference of Deadpool and Death being in love, because Wade is the only mortal that has made Death laugh. And is so funny that Brolin played Thanos, who despices Wade for having Death's affections when Thanos would literally destroy the universe for her

Yeah the term "fridging" is weird. Using the death of a loved one for character motivation has been a staple of storytelling since telling stories first started. If a series used the deaths of women constantly as a crutch for emotional storytelling then that'd be one thing but a single death? Nah it's fine

If you see the deleted scenes you can see the part where they kept doing bucks lines and Ryan Reynolds’s was clearly getting irritated and helping him finish his lines. That’s why they kept in the “no more speaking lines for you”

You know, something people need to understand about things like "fridging." Just because you can put a trendy name on a plot device you don't like doesn't automatically mean it's a bad plot device or one that can no longer be used.
The trailer was (will be? this is from the future, so...) amazing. You'll be surprised at how well it works that they had the entire trailer be a spoof on Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals.
