Towing the Line

Towing the Line was painted in watercolor, Plein air. It hones an awareness of atmospheric light and edge qualities. The USS Constitution’s symmetry and the pull of one-point perspective provide the visual power to tow Old Ironsides directly out of the mist in a salute to the viewer. The color, Neutral Tint, provides a bold, black gritty contrast against the softness of the atmosphere while a few working figures accentuate the scale of the mighty USS Constitution.
The National Watercolor Society is thrilled to showcase the NWS 50 Stars Watercolor Exhibition being held July thru September 2020 as part of our centennial year celebration. This unique exhibition displays the United States watermedia societies’ rich histories, artists, and artwork. Artists were juried by their state society and were required to be NWS members. NWS’s goal was to bring together the US watermedia community while showcasing excellence and originality in watermedia art.
