I liked Chen Meng's way of giving a mercy point. Often, players do a failed service or service return which is so obvious it's almost insulting. Here, Chen Meng made it easy for Ding Ning to smash, which is more subtle and respectful.
However, it reduce the likelyhood of getting this point

Graceful Cheng Meng
The last point DN deliberately hit it to the net to return the flavor of the previous point and end the match. She had no chance to win at that point, but good sportsmanship from both sides.

Chen Meng is so, so solid. Nothing bothers her. Doesn't go for crazy shots. Bides her time. Her balance is so superior, returning to ready almost no matter what. Totally professional. Basically looks impossible to beat. If she holds her form, she will be Olympic Champion.
Don't think anyone is her level right now. LSW and DN is off form, she regularly beats SYS and WMY. Mima is too inconsistent in important moments. Olympic champ is her's to lose

Ding Ning got obliterated but keep in mind she beat Mima Ito 4-1 and Wang Manyu 4-2 before this, so she clearly isn’t washed up yet. Chen Meng is simply just the better player at this point in time. This tournament certainly makes the 2020 CNT women’s singles picks more interesting. Chen Meng definitely has her spot locked in imo, but it’ll be a bloodbath between Ding Ning, LSW, SYS, WMY, and ZYL for the second space.
SYS is Chinese best bet against Mima ITo. Ding Ning, LSW, ZYL are out.

That's my doubt. I don't know what criterion each national federation must follow to determine the players who will play in the Olympics and in which category, single or pair: either the country has autonomy to pick the player or it must look upon to the world ranking. Anyway, if I were the responsible for Team China, I'd pick Chen Meng and Sun Ying Sha, notwithstanding Liu Shi Wen, another senior (姐姐 😉) as Ding Ning, cannot be ruled out.
In 2020 Chen Meng was at her peak in her table tennis playing career, winning WS in ITTF Grand Finals 4 yrs in a row , and managed to out-wit the young Chinese no. 1 Sun YS in Tokyo 2020 (played in 2021). Her career was sandwiched btwn Ding N & Liu SW and younger players Sun YS & Wang MY 🙏🙏
If there was any doubt, the changing of the guard is here. ML devastated by XX. DN destroyed by CM.

Ding Ning’s tomahawk serve doesn’t really set up third ball attack too well. Other strategy necessary especially against Chen Meng she is world no.1 for a reason after all.
Chinese beauty is not just the most good looking Chinese player but getting better and better too. Truly a joy to watch for fans.
Respect to Chen Meng for giving up a point at the last set. It's a common thing to do on table tennis matches.

Regarding serve: the tomahawk service of DN lacks of height and CM covers the ball with her face when hitting. Similar situation in the men's tournament. Why wasn't the Hawkeye used at this '20 German Open? Either the hidden serve is legalized again or the check of hiding is done by the Hawkeye. Same with the height and angle of the toss. Anyway - great matches and unreal superiority of the CNT! Grats!
It'd be a cruelty if Ding were lost by nil at the last set.
At the last set, we can see that Chen Meng gave one point to Dingning deliberately in order to adoiding the cruel result of 11-0.
She deliberately gave the point. Sportsmanship from Chen Meng, future olympic champ.
Chen Meng at 10-0 in the last set didn't want to kill the ball, so gave her opponent a mercy point. The next point, DN simply hit it to the net to return the flavor. It was 1-10, 1-3, so she had little chance to win, but nice gestures on both sides really.
CM so aggressive and stronk. Only SYS has potential to rival her now.

B.陳夢這幾年在公開賽與年終總決賽表現最搶眼。不但包攬了連續三年2017、2018、2019的年終總決賽女單冠軍。自2017年起迄今，也拿到了總計9個公開賽女單冠軍(總數37個，她一個人就搶走幾乎四分之一)，是女子選手中最傲人的戰績。第2多的女選手只拿了5個，陳夢可謂遙遙領先群雌！
C.陳夢首度世界排名第1是2018年1月。去年2019年6月起霸住世界第1，預計將會持續至少到8月東京奧運期間。

DN не явно хватает мощи ударов против топовых соперниц. Возможно травма спины мешает лупить со всей силы. Глядя на игру DN на пути к финалу, я не мог предположить, что всё будет так односторонне. Как будто CM в первой партии просто разминалась, а потом показала, что в данный момент она выше на голову по классу игры.

Not really. It's not impossible, but certainly very rare. That would make some psychology damages to players' minds, rage between players and possibly scandals and controversies , so they wouldn't do it because it causes more harm than good.
