    There was actually a recall on the shift actuator on the verados. Got a customers changed for free a while ago.
    Oh and thanks for helping me with a brand new 225 that has this problem.

    Very informative. Knock on wood, my triple 2016 Merc 350 Verado's have not had actuator problems yet. But one had a rare problem -- a cracked cam cover that seeped oil. Took over a month to get a replacement. Now the yard says it is getting knock sensor messages or something. For some reason I kind of miss my old 2-stroke Johnsons and Evinrudes -- they smoked like cheap cigars but they were pretty bulletproof.

      The code is for the position difference on the command. This indicates that the shift actuator is bad or the gear case has a worn out part. My best guess is you got a bad actuator right out of the box. I would take it back so they can further diagnose it. Sorry for the bad news.

    Yamaha has the same problem on the 5.3 F350 & 4.2 liters. It always happens more on boats that separated with water coming off the hull or a tab , transducers

    I was resigned to the idea. Thank you very much for the help and great follow up. One more question, if you replace the MAP sensor does it require programming or can just change out and go?
    Thanks again and have a great week.

    Makes me want to flush my new 1 season old Yamaha 150 asap…used it in brackish bay water last year and it never got flushed…I tried to have dealer do it with salt-away before Winterization but they said no, we don’t use that product…

    Justin, have 2021 250 Verado V8. Marine Max replaced shift actuator on starboard motor few months back and now have another fault . Checked all batteries 12.6v and 11.5v under load. Have cleared fault and want to use boat. Any thoughts? Thanks and enjoy your videos as I’m new to the Mercury world.

      @@MikeLasseter-b5c Thank you and can you tell me the fault number. I can look it up and let you know what it says. Hard to say without looking at it myself. The fault code can at least help me steer you in the right direction ☺️

    My 2017 vrod 350 will shift fine into foward or reverse but when I return to neutral it clunks like it wants to try to go back in/ out of gear and bogs the motor somewhat. It only does this when I first get in the water and seems worse during the colder months.

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Sounds like something is worn out in the gearcase or the bushing is tight on the shift shaft. You will need to have it inspected to find out what component is causing the problem.

      I have dropped the lower unit a couple of times since the issue started and I can’t find anything obvious. I need to get someone with the mercury software and get a proper diagnosis.

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Yes. They can also do the actuator test if they have the manual. Keep me posted if you figure anything out.

    I have a failed actuator from a 2021 Mercury 225 ProXS. I bought a diagnostic manual and checked the motor circuit and sensors on my test bench. Motor and mechanicals worked but the sensors failed the test voltages in all three positions. It seems the Hall effect sensors in the circuit have failed and it is not available as a repair part. Have you received any indication from Mercury that this part may become available so we don’t have to buy a $1200 part instead of a $100 sensor board. As an alternative, does Mercury or any other source repair or rebuild these units. I bet there are lots of them in trash bins.

      Unfortunately they don't let you take them apart. You can get one for a discount if you click on my link in the description. I have sold a few already because they are just over 1000 on the PartsVu website. Keep me posted if you find out anything on replacing internal components.

    Hello, I have a 2020 mercury 200xl DTS v6 with code shift actuator AB difference,and 1 year ago the dealer replaced my lower unit due damage from object, is it possible that they could have done something wrong to cause this? I took it to the dealer for this intermittent problem and they found nothing, but I still have same problems, long beeb ,crank but no saart and code 1024-6, is there anything special to do to align the actuator before removing the lower unit, like put in reverse or neutral etc. Thanks again.

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  Před měsícem

      The actuator is set from the factory and there is no adjustment. They also don't replace the actuator with the lower unit. The actuator is in the midsection. Unless the actuator was damaged and they did change it. Not sure what they did when they replaced it. It sounds like the actuator is going bad. It's a common thing unfortunately.

    Hi Justin. Thank for your video. My 2020year 300 Verado only 50 hours . Now the gauge showed shift actuator alarm every time when I try to shift and the system not allow me to shift forward and backwards . Do you think is the actuator fault? If I want replace do I need the factory computer to reboot the system after? Thanks

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  Před 4 měsíci +1

      You would have to check the gearcase and shift shaft first to determine if the actuator is at fault.

    I have a 2020 225 Pro XS V8 and just got a “ shift position sensor is not working properly” fault 71 alarm. Is that sensor internal to the shift actuator ? If so, my dealer should be replacing that entire shift actuator?

    • @JustinLeeMarine
      @JustinLeeMarine  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Yes. It's a complete assembly. You can't take it apart. Also ask them to look at your serial number. They were under a recall at one point.
