Yup, the perhaps unintuitive thing about battle fleets is that screens are everything. As long as your screening is at 100% the enemy torpedoes are completely worthless. Therefore, the one to kill the others screen first, pretty much always wins.
This leads to a second unintuitive thing about main fleets: destroyers are crap, they're cannon fodder and torpedo boats. You really shouldn't build high end destroyers for main fleets. Because they die super easy. Only build the cheapest DDs with a torp and DC for numbers and the torp.
Instead you need 'battle CLs' just put the highest (CL) armor you can on them and they will tank a shit ton of light attack, while they tank the enemy screen they can slaughter it in turn which lets your torpedoes go to work and annihilate the enemy capitals.
Also leave CA's out of main fleets, never build them. They're worthless, the only thing they can do in battle is kill other CAs but BBs can do that much better. They're useful for Naval bombardment though.
You still need to make sure you have enough screens to keep screening at 100% so cannon fodder DD1's can do that if you can't make enough CLs.
Tbh, I think that Germany might have done that. He had 16 CLs in that fleet, but maybe Germany starts with that I dunno.

@@onefastsled You build shitty ASW destroyers in enough numbers to give convoys screen protection and have a patrol group come spot out the enemy subs. ASW and Patrol groups should have 35+ knots to get there in time to kill more subs.

Sub 3s are banned in most servers as it's literally an easy Axis win. Drain the UK and US of Convoys; No D-Day, Africa is lost instantly, Japan takes all of Asia. Due to no D-Day, the USSR eventually falls and the UK might get Sealioned. Japan could even fucking seize control of the entire Pacific and eventually capitulate America. It's ridiculous.
If Sub 3 was allowed, it isn't Tommy's fault for losing. It's the host's fault for having such trash rules.

I actually were. My fault though, I guess, but again those nb2 didn't had enough range to cover zones except for med and asia. Also dat one in Singapore was a total mess cause I used my planes in other zones to grind up Luftwaffe, and I had previously deployed 2K on sing airport while Andaman was still being built up, so when I had the chance to deploy more, I did.
Had my mistakes, sry if dat one ruined the game for Tommy.

Subs completely destroy capital ships. 4 Destroyers isn't enough to stop all their capital ships light attack or give enough screen efficiency to prevent the subs from destroying your fleet. You dont have to be a God at navy, but just attempt to balance your task forces more 👍
But managing your navy is really a pain in the ass nowadays. The UI is not intuitive or logical at all.

Use a small, 1-2 carrier based fleet up there to deal with the Germans. Don't stack in med as naval bombers and 2-3 carriers is all you need.
And please, for the love of god, put more than 4 destroyers in it!

Heavy fighters improve detection over seafields. Also put your screens on patrol. Helps me more. Then they will not get rekt from the german Kriegsmarine while escorting

Fully upgraded Sub 3s are why HoI4 needs dedicated Naval Reconnaissance Planes (Seaplanes).
French fleet got the schmeat because they were retreating. If he’d had simply set it to “No Retreat”, he would’ve been the one giving the schmeat.
But fr that was so sad, he had 63% screen efficiency.

build a light cruiser with maxed out spy planes. The hardest part of subs is detecting them (er, I think), the more surface and sub visibility you have the better your odds of detecting them to engage, and the harder it is for enemy ships to detect and engage you. Also did you set a strike force in the same area as your destroyers?
Tommy you forgot to put carrier aircraft in that carrier in the Atlantic that is one reason why you couldn't detect their navy and do a lot of damage.
As uk you wanna produce Battleships, Subs and Carriers at the beginning. And when you get more dockyards get light cruisers or Destroyers and maybe heavy crusiers
Naw man, the USA will give you fresh capital ships. What matters is securing the sea lanes to Britain: screens. You have plenty of capital ships.

Yea you also need radar 3-4 for ASW DD or CL. Sonar II without radar 3 is not enough to find subs as crazy as that sounds.
Tommy, didn't see your ships, but this destro build on the guide has major flaw - you need best engine to catch disengaging subs/enter convoy def to route them
you can split the uk navy into 2 (Heavy Ships & Carriers), 1 for dealing with Germany in the Atlantic, 1 for the Med, the Italian navy is far worse than the Brittish navy, so you can destroy him the minute you detect his navy
Level III (and above) naval radar on all anti-sub destroyers + cruisers and making them as fast as possible helps a lot with detecting and killing subs...however the Submarine III + snorkel meta is still absolutely insane.

You need 100 deatroyers to protect all convoys
build tac bomber 1s or 2s have radar in newfoundland/iceland to cover northern sea tiles (or radar in casablanca, morocco/gibraltar/coast of brazil for iberian coast/lusitanian sea) navs or tacs on naval strike with radar obliterate subs
put DDs on "patrol" rather than "escort convoys" (unless you have 100% escort efficiency)
I'm pretty sure that destroyers work as anti-convoy. Subs are the best anti sub.

Hi Tommy. You're probably not going to read this, but anyway:
CONVOYS COUNT AS CARRIERS.
What does this mean?
In the game, there's a variable called "Screening Efficiency". This is at it's max when for each capital ship (BB, Heavy Cruiser etc) you have at least 4 screening vessels (its better to have 8), AND FOR EACH CARRIER YOU HAVE AT LEAST ONE CAPITAL SHIP!.
I agree that subs are fucking bullshit in MtG though

Seemed like the only problem was an incompetent air controller. Your anti sub fleets probably would have been fine with Naval bomber support, and you had red air in pretty much every land combat, even with you devoting EXTRA production to planes for the controller.
Naval bombers don't have the range for it. Maybe medium bombers. But his worst problem was the screen efficiency

Even anti sub destroyer 3s arent enough.... Weve tried a sub2 only game and they still couldnt detect them (also had 1940 spotting cruisers). At this point weve just banned subs altogether .
