    What are your feelings on the Tiny Tales line ? I feel it's a deplorable line and looks like it is developed by children's toy makers.

      Yeah I totally agree. I feel like it wasn’t made with the happiness and comfort of the gerbils in mind.. just to catch little kids eyes

      Ps. I just found your channel and am really happy I did. I’m trying to do a lot of research on gerbils before I get them. I plan on adopting 2 gerbils in a few weeks and your videos really help me. Especially the tank topper one

    This was fun to watch. It always makes me sad seeing how they sell those horrible cages, and how much misery they bring to the unfortunate critters who would live there the rest of their lives

    I live in NW PA...right across from Canada with Lake Erie separating us. We just got hit with a horrid snowstorm which dumped 18 inches ( .46 meters, I think) of snow in one day. It's freaking horridly cold too.
    Thank you so much for this review of the toys. I easily get overwhelmed by all the choices and having to research every single thing trying to find out if it's truly safe or effective for my pair of brothers. I research everything before I get it for them, lol.
    I loathe almost all the typical cages being sold at pet stores. I have the largest Niteangle Vista enclosures for my gerbils (and my hamster). I know space, and expense, can be an issue for a lot of folks but, imo, it's so important to provide the proper amount of floor space and enrichment for your gerbils that, if you can't do that, then gerbils (or hamsters, mice, rats) are not the pet for you. Full stop.

    Ya those tiny tales cages shouldn't exist there way to small! My past mouse loved the wooden chews.

    Wow, I work at PetSmart and we don't have half of this stuff in my store. I'm jealous! I hope we get a huge small animal shipment soon, we have so many empty gaps in our shelves in that aisle.

      This video was a while ago, and I am in Ontario, Canada so maybe that's where it differs? We definitely had bare shelves for awhile while going through the full cheeks switch.

    We're starting to see tiny tales wannabes creep in to the UK now 😑
    I did spot a similar ceramic bath tub in the range a little while ago, it was Christmas themed and I think for potpourri, but I could totally see myself using one of those as a sand bath 🥰

    Hi! I love your channel! I have a question, is a 8.5 wheel okay for my gerbils, or should I improve? Thanks and I love your videos by the way! I will be watching your videos more because I love them so much 😁

    • @TheGerbilVine
      @TheGerbilVine  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey! Thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. I would recommend a 9 to 12 inch wheel depending on the age and size of the gerbil, hope that helps

    Please be very careful with those play pens, especially if your household has a cat. Particularly when they’re young, gerbils can jump out of a bath tub so those fences wouldn’t be a problem for them at all.

  • @Aquadecember23
    @Aquadecember23 Před 2 lety +3

    The cages are cute, but the size is disgusting...they need to make them the correct size. For the price of them you can just get a fish tank or a bigger enclosure. So sad

    its so strange how many things are advertised for gerbils and yet completely inappropriate for them.

    • @TheGerbilVine
      @TheGerbilVine  Před měsícem

      @@civilsky4261 manufacturers often care about profit over small animal care. Petsmart, who is a big company who also care more about profits, may not make alot of the lroducts, but have no problem selling them.
      It's really hard to navigate what is and isn't okay for our pets, and many people trust stores which just sadly just don't care about anything other than money.

  • @petfunhouse276
    @petfunhouse276 Před 2 lety +1

    wow! great video!! thank you so much for sharing!! this was really cool to see a point of view from you on Petsmart supplies!!! I actually am a pet care associate at Petsmart! :D
    I always explain to customers that gerbils need large tanks and are heavy chewers and need to be in pairs. It's hard cause a lot of people like to argue but I try my hardest to ensure these guys go to good homes! :)
    I agree, the tiny tales cages alone are wayyyyy too small for gerbils and Syrian hamsters and gerbils will chew right out of them so they aren't suitable alone for gerbils or Syrian hamsters because also Syrian hamsters get wide.
    however I do have mixed feelings on tiny tales as a whole because I actually keep my Chinese dwarf hamster in two of the cages connected by many tubes. she's in the castle cage connected to the house one and the upper "floor" of the house is filled with 6 inches of bedding and I was actually able to replace the small wheel with a large wheel in the castle portion....it's difficult to do but can be done, lol!! I also was able to add a forging millet area and a sand bath area so for small rodents like robos, a pair of mice or dwarf hamsters I believe that some of the Tiny Tales cages can be adjusted to fit their needs and my Chinese dwarf adores her home and is very active, friendly and loves climbing through the tubes so for her it works but just like you said: definitely NOT ideal for gerbils. Gerbils need at least 12 inches of bedding. My Chinese dwarf is also disabled (her back legs never fully formed right) and gets scared when she's in open spaces so the privacy of the Tiny Tales worked for her but does not work for almost any other rodent.
    OMG YES THANK YOU FOR SAYING THAT....the confetti puffs are AWFUL!!!! I always avoid those! I would also avoid the green wood Dino feet chews because I believe that is dyed with so much green that it can make a gerbil sick (I could be wrong, I've never tried int but they don't look safe)
    personally I have tried the plastic teeter totter in my gerbils' tank before I knew plastic was bad for gerbils and because they had so many wood chews in their enclosure they actually never bothered chewing the plastic so I guess I got lucky with that. they love going through it so I keep it in there since my young gerbils aren't as heavy chewers as my older ones.
    I've always used the loofah heart chews too for my gerbils over the years and they've never had a problem with the glue, they actually chew everything but the glue and I always assumed it was safe but I'll definitely keep an eye on them to make sure they don't ingest it!! thanks for the heads up!! :)
    I appreciate your advice and your opinions on the products in this video!! I really wish Tiny Tales would market their cages as suitable for only mice, robos, dwarf hamsters if connecting two or more cages and NOT the dinosaur, rocket or firetruck ones because those are not safe at all. Honestly the farm, castle and cozy home are the only ones I consider safe for those breeds if connected properly and with larger wheels inserted. But unfortunately adjustments made to these cages are not common.
