    • @JoeLinux2000
      @JoeLinux2000 Před 5 lety

      Not sure exactly what you are asking, but a positive exponent defines the place value, for example 10, 100, 1000 and so on. A negative exponent provides the decimal place: .1, .01, .001, and so on. Experiment with your calculator. That's why these scientific calculators are so helpful in actually understanding the number system. You can do a lot of practice without breaking your brain.

      Doing that, your calculator will treat your scientific notation number like different numbers instead of grouping the numbers together unless you put paranthesis around them. I guess the [Exp] button is more reliable than [Shift]+[Log]

    as a old man who used (paper) logarithm tables, using exponents made sens in that context. on contemporary (2021) calculators you have to know about this stuff if you're dealing with very big/small numbers. but then again you should know the logarithm base ten and the arithmatic of powers. without that context i'd rather not learn Scientific Notation.
    anyway, with that precision, i could also use a slide rule without any disadvantages.

    • @hermask815
      @hermask815 Před 3 lety

      (log(3.07)+4)-(log(6.2)-3)=6.694746686; 10^6.694746686=4951612,903. for precision i guess 4951000 is accurate enough given the values we started with.

    Hard to say since I don't know what type of calculator you are using, but generally you can take a 5th root one of two ways. There should be a button somewhere that says "X(sqrt)y" that allows you to take an arbitrary root of a number. (In your case, X = 5 for fifth root). If that doesn't make sense, try this: raise the number you want to take the fifth root of to the 1/5 power like this: 32^(1/5)...if you're doing it right that argument should produce a result of 2.
