One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that these **sort of** work with powder blender but they wouldn't be my first choice. They blend better than a wax based pencil would with powder blender but they still are waxy enough that some of the lead grips more to the sanded paper than I like, so you end up with a bit more of a grainy look where the pencil sticks too much to those spots. When working on sanded paper with powder blender, I would save these pencils for final layers like I do with my wax based pencils. These aren't nearly as waxy as Luminance or Prismas but just enough not to blend super smooth with that product.

Can you make a review video on all derwent colour pencils? About their pigment & vibrance quality, colour swatches comparison, lightfast, wax or oil base, layering, blending, etc. Its really difficult for me which to pick between lightfast, procolour and drawing coloured pencils (not sure if derwent artist coloured pencil are same as this, too many names). Also, theres less video on derwent studio coloured pencil, im not sure how good they are.
I would appreciate a lot if you are able to do this kind of video.

Hi Lisa - I know this is an older video, but I finally splashed out and bought the Lightfast myself! (love your videos!!!)
A question about layering them over some of my other pencils, if I layer them over some of my less lightfast (say 5s) will it bring down the Lightfastness of the finished piece? What I mean is, can I use the lesser lightfast ones for a type of under painting and use my 6+ good quality lightfast colours for the top layers for saleable art pieces? Thanks in advance

Nice video! I got my set from Cult Pens in the UK. I love this pencil too! For those of us who are more serious colored pencil artists, we already have many pencils from other sets/companies. We don’t necessarily have to have one set that has all the colors we might need. Polychromos, for instance, already has a nice range of lightfast reds and typical but lovely greens. I think the colors released so far in this set supplement those other sets nicely! Like the purples. Also, the greens are unusual. Some of the other light colors in this set fill in gaps that I think we have with other sets. And, I never bought a whole Polychromos set because so many of them are not lightfast. I didn’t buy an entire set of Luminance right away because of the cost and because some of the colors are so bright I didn’t think I’d use them much. But this - I could justify the whole set. Nice work, Derwent!

I would love to know more about the sharpener that you mentioned. When I tried to get one with an 'adjustable' point, I could get the lead shorter, but it didn't actually have a point. It was completely flat across the top. For me, that defeats the purpose. One that would actually allow for a shorter point would be amazing!

I think it's really cool that you took this photo during the day and made it look like a nighttime scene, Lisa. On the topic of making your darks really dark, one of my favorite parts of doing many of my pieces is adding the white highlights and black shadows. They're very small, but they add such a huge impact to the piece overall.

I just seen that Derwent came out with the new lightfast colored pencils on the Dick Blick website and saw that they had a color close to "greyed lavender" from Prismacolor (I think, it's called oyster). Of course, Polychromos does not have any purple even close to the greyed lavender and my first thought was to visit your CZcams channel and sure enough, you have a video review on Derwent lightfast colored pencils. But of course they are out of stock of the oyster and the more muted creams like "wheat" until october 5th :( Talk about being a nerd: I put it in my phone to order then so I don't miss out! BTW Your giraffe is amazing!!! I love that it's was done with a purple background rather than the blue. I simply love it :)

Water will only blend water colored pencils. She uses OMS for oil and wax based pencils. The OMS "dissolves" the pigment and allows it to blend into the tooth of the paper.

I really envy watercolor and color pencil artists, because it's 2 mediums I love, but I suck at in the same time! Whatever I do, I'm only really good at Drawing, with graphite and sketching with Red Chalk(Sanguine) and Sepia. I can't understand how I can be that good with these mediums and so bad with Color pencils. Watercolors I understand why. Color pencils is much slower medium and a bit more comlpicated, than what I expected when I start using them Watercolors are WAY more complicated than expected and easily the most difficult medium imo. I'll try to stick to color pencils, and then advance to watercolors. Maybe the fact, that I start learning them together, was one reason that slowed my learning curve. Any tips by anybody, would be much appreciated!
