      Our poor and homeless do have support. Under international law they must stay here until their asylum claim is assessed. The issue is that it's taking MONTHS to decide, so that's why accommodation is provided, because they are not allowed to work. If they are granted asylum they would be allowed to work, and struggle like the rest of us and potentially go homeless. Once their claim is approved they are turfed out of the hotels.

    We are poor because of lack of houses and poor wages. Net migration makes us poorer by stagnating or undercutting our wages, causes demand and therefore inflation of homes and strains are already broken public services which makes governments tax us more heavily to pay for the public services.

    The government could change the law and stop this tomorrow. They still have a huge majority in parliament, yet have done nothing. We should be able to choose who comes in and not just allow anyone in who feels like it.
    Why do they stay in fancy hotels? Beggars can't be choosers.

    • @BuxStop
      @BuxStop Před 6 měsíci

      While claiming asylum, they cannot work, so accommodation is provided. The issue as that claims are taking MONTHS to decide whether to grant asylum or not. If they granted it, they would be turfed out of hotels and be able to work and pay for rent and taxes like the rest of us. They should either grant asylum so they aren't a drain, or be shipped off, not this in-between stage.

    • @BuxStop
      @BuxStop Před 6 měsíci

      Under international law, while someone is claiming asylum they must remain here until a decision is made. They are not allowed to work during this time and that's why they're given accommodation. They do not have a choice ! They WANT to work. Which is great, we need a workforce willing to do hard labour and we are holding them up in hotels. It's dumb.
      The issue is that home office are taking MONTHS to deal with claims. Either grant them asylum so they are allowed to work, and can struggle paying rent like the rest of us, or deport. This in-between part is a drain on both sides.

      There is emergency housing, yes. Go to citizens advice and they have support for this and would do the same. Most British people are not aware of this. But my point is that the UK does not have the infrastructure to support an extra 600.000 bodies per year... even if they are miraculously 100% legal and lovely and hard working etc. the nation does not have enough school places, hospital beds, and afordable homes for the people who have already moved here or were born here.
