When I worked for the Disney Store in the late 90's - early 2000's, we did sell official Mattel Disney dolls in the slim line boxes (I still have the original Ariel and Snow White from that time). The problem was, they were the same dolls that could be bought at other toys stores, and they were more expensive at the Disney Store. Disney then switched to making their own dolls for the stores in order to have a higher profit margin as well as carry "exclusive" dolls that couldn't be found anywhere else. But as you show, those first dolls had major issues. Those girls were on the struggle bus. I remember those first few rounds of dolls, and I was embarrassed by them. I thought the same thing you did, who approved these?? It took almost 10 years, but now the Disney Store dolls are some of the best Disney Princess dolls and most accurate dolls out there.

Yeah, she's one of the prettier ones he showed. I think if they elongated her face just a bit (cause her eyes, nose and lips are too squished together), she would be a pretty Jasmine doll.

Thank you for this video! I have an odd looking, nude Disney doll that I got from the thrift store that I couldn't identify for the longest time. After watching this, I Googled "Disney on Ice Dolls" and there she was, a Disney on Ice HSM Sharpay cheerleader!
She looks nothing like a Sharpay doll, so I finally gave up and assumed she must be a very odd Sleeping Beauty. I also have a Broadway Jasmine doll that was very hard to identify, but she's beautiful. Sharpay is in her own way, too. Thanks again!

I grew up in the 90s having born in 88 and I remember the shock in the 00s lol just asking myself what was so wrong with the manufacture of these dolls! I enjoy your channel A LOT as I feel so in tune with you in terms of appreciation of dolls, and in this video I love the fakeTanned face Cinderella lol with those earrings on her alien face sculpt with no ears? what were they thinking? Honestly haha but my favourite has to be that Snow White that looks in pain and possessed at the same time with those red eyes? The Jasmine at 1:43 doesn’t seem weird to me. It’s not the most movie-accurate Jasmine doll ever, but considering there are several characters who have yet to have a single movie-accurate face mold (Pocahontas), yet still get celebrated by air-heads, I think this doll is perfectly good.
I thought it was made to look like the actress from the real life aladdin movie.

I have the ballerina Disney dolls of Tinkerbell, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Mulan, Pocahontas, Cinderella and Snow White. I was once a ballerina, which is why I bought them, and some of them don't resemble the princesses. Like Sleeping Beauty, Mulan, and Ariel. The only one I'm missing is Belle. From what I can see of Belle, she sort of looks like her. The costumes are nice. I wish Pocahontas's costume was different though.

I actually had the horrible Disney on ice Ariel doll when I was a kid. Her face was always so weirdly stretched out. I remember trying to turn her into Starfire from Teen Titans with permanent market. I haven’t seen her in years but I kinda hope she got lost in the move from my old house to my new one.
Tinkerbell looks high, the jasmine in purple eye's are way too small Jasmine has big almond shaped eyes, and the creepiest Snow White was the one with red eyes she looks like she is either high, or being possessed by some evil force. (maybe that is why she is in pain?)
Fortunately I bought Disney princesses when my daughter was a baby so we have the "real" Disney princesses by Mattel. Now we don't buy them because they are really awful!! My daughter is ten and she plays videogames but I collect her barbies and mine... So I like your videos which are very professional!!! Thank you. I'm from Italy.

Some years ago, when I played with dolls, I got an Arielle doll. I don‘t know if it was original from Disney because she was not brand-new, I got her when another person already used/played with it before.
At first, I was happy to get her. But then I realised that the hair was very bad quality. The doll and her body herself felt ok and the face looked ok. It had a „singing function“, so when you press on the shell that seh’s wearing with a necklace, then she sings a song from the arielle movie. But this singing was kinda cracked, because it stops in the middle of the song or starts it new or makes weird noises or whatever (but I think this was because she was not new).
Her clothes… nah, they weren‘t high quality. When this dress of her got wet, the green sequins on it lost their colour. Also, it got damaged very fast by normal using. But I don’t know if this dress really belonged to her, because she was not new.
She also had a sparkling mermaid costume, but the glitter powder fell off very fast. Her plastic+glitter bikini was also not high quality… and my cat ate the bikini later. 😬
The Disney Princess dolls I still have are all from the 1990's-- when Mattel still cared.
I know this was up a year ago but I've to agree. The Disney store dolls with a bulge do look like their wearing masks. I wonder if maybe when they made the dolls the head mold was two pieces because that's what it looks like. Even though there's no seam line, the way it's shape makes me wonder. Also the second Jasmine doll, definitely a cute face, but maybe the face sculpt has potential as a relative of Jasmine maybe. I love the pink outfit which is also a surprise color to see on jasmine but still cute

Back in the 90s & early 2000s, you couldn't compare Disney with Mattel
Disney was (& still is) a film company above everything, not a toy maker at all. Mattel on the other hand, masterminded dolls.
Disney dolls were there (before D Princesses were combined) serving just as a merchandise for that certain film... same way as key chain, poster, figure or blanket. Thats why they didn't pay much attention to them at the start.
PS whenever we had ugly dolls as kids, we always gave them villain roles 😂🤣😂

You should probably remake this video yet again. Mattel didn't stop making Disney dolls in the early 2000s - they continued until the early 2010s. And most of the dolls you've shown are from the 90s - they were just made for different outlets like Disney Store, Disney on Ice, etc.

They can’t seem to get Snow White’s hair right on any of these but why did they sometimes decide to give her long flowing hair? The answer is probably that they resented that not every single Disney princess has waterfall locks.
If you go through the Frozen dolls they have some weird sculpts. Ears stick out, smirking faces. Elsa gets a widow's peak. Anna looks like she's half-grimacing.
I'm pretty sure I have the same Snow White you got from Disneyland Paris! Were they sold at the parks in the US? My brother went with his dad in the early 2000s and bought a Snow White doll for me, as well as a Cinderella for our sister.
