  • Your friends want to go to a track. Your friends want to go rock crawling/trail driving. You want to do both with them but you can have just a single car. What do you do? Maybe the Summit is the answer?

Yep! Traxxas have done a great job of not really changing anything on this machine. It was brilliant from the start!
I don't mind that mine needs a little work, as it came to me for £275 off Ebay fully working! I will replace all 4 wheels/tires very soon as they are all "distressed" in the sidewalls. Very happy with mine!

My Summit is a first gen with the old TQ transmitter. It works just fine so I won't (don't feel like it needs) put in a new style receiver or transmitter. I didn't drive it for about 6 months until a few days ago. I converted it to Castle Mamba Monster 2 six cell brushless power. I also installed some Rock Crusher 40 series tires on Dick Cepek wheels. The brushed motor struggled with the Rock Crushers so it wasn't until I installed the Castle system till I used them. I had the castle system for about two years as well as the tires but was waiting for the brushed system to die. I do like the Summit and does do really good in deep mud. I need a few micro servos as all but one has long since died. Still looks like new except with a brushless system instead.

Really have to congratulate you for this comprehensive review. Well done.
Really wanted this vehicle for a very long time and I hope Traxxas continues to produce it in the future when I will finally be able to afford one.

I have an older Summit and use it for FPV. It's suspension is great for first person view, because it is so stable you don't need a gimble. I just wish there were other body choices available. Would like something with a open drivers cockpit so I could place my onboard camera inside without the dark wind shield. Thanks for the review...

Yeah it's the best crawler in my RC line up better than my TRX-4 Defender and Axial Bomber. It's not scale look but it's the best all-terrain vehicle. The X-Maxx has more power and weight than the Summit but the summit can go anywhere.

Great review. I have one and I pretty much agree with your comments. Servos are definetly the worst part of the truck. Mine lasted only two runs. I drive it on a mountain area near Madrid and as you said it does a little bit of everything, bash, trail, crawl... I have two more trucks: a HPI flux 1/16 and an Arrma Granite both great Rcs but the Summit is the one that I drive most.

I get all my decals from MCI, only downside is if you live in the southern part of the US it takes almost a month for your decals to come in. I love my Summit, I was wanting a green one but ended up with the Orange as well. I haven't ran my stock body at all, the day I got it I ordered and airbrushed the Pro-Line Bronco body which unfortunately was discontinued not long after I airbrushed it so I don't use it either lol. I'm currently running the Pro-Line Dodge Ram body with Pro-Line Super Swamper tires.

Also, can the E-revo be lifted with the stock shocks/springs from the Summit? So I could have best of both worlds👍

Great review! Thinking of buying a revo, but I like the two gear set up, and the 775 motor on the Summit. So my idea is to make it more like a revo, but still have the 2 speed tranny and diff lock. Probably even slap a set of truggy wheels on it and take it to the track.
