  • The video discusses a Chromebook tip related to "Lacros," which stands for Linux and Chrome OS.
    Lacros represents a new version of the Chrome browser that is decoupled from the Chrome operating system.
    The video provides historical context, mentioning how Chromebooks initially had different versions of Chrome compared to Windows PCs.
    It explains how to enable Lacross on a Chromebook by accessing experimental settings and flags.
    Lacross allows for separate settings menus for the Chrome browser and Chromebook, providing updated browser versions and improved functionality.

    you are really an inspiration for old age /senior people, at this age either people lost interest in technical stuff or not interested at all, you are like geeky student of 20s. you gave me a vision what to do in my last decade of life

      Thanks for watching my video and commenting. At 71 making videos about technology keeps me young.

    This here senior citizen rescued his Acer 15 CB3 following your instructions. I was forever locked on Chrome 103 as of June 2022. Still a good machine and Lacros was a simple fix/option. Thanks.

      Update: I removed the LaCros system from my 2018 Chromebook. It is stuck on OS 103 and every time it said I should update, it then stated it was unable to do so. 😞 I will just wait and plug along with my AUE unit for now. Nice try.

      Lacros will not install on ChromeOS 120 as a new install. The feeling is the the final change will take place by Google with ChromeOS 122 and when that install comes it will convert everyone.

    What if you still have 5 years left of support uodates? Should you still install the lacros?

    • @TechforSenior
      @TechforSenior  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Lacros only changes the Chrome Browser. Your OS and support updates stay the same. It will likely happen with an OS update in the next couple of months so you don't have to do anything.

    can lacros be installed on a linux ,have crommiun browser working not but will not update?

    • @TechforSenior
      @TechforSenior  Před 6 měsíci

      That is an excellent question. If you have Linux installed on your Chromebook then you will see that it is just an APP on your shelf. Your other Chromebook applications work just fine as would Lacros. I have Firefox running as a Linux App so I think you could run Chrome as a Linux App as well.

    This seems to be useless. I tried it on a Dell and Acer Chromebook but it didn't do anything. After rebooting it was still the same version of Chrome so how were you able to get it to work?

    • @TechforSenior
      @TechforSenior  Před 4 měsíci

      Yes .. You are correct. Since that video Google disabled the feature. This week it was re-enabled with the latest version of ChromeOS 121. Make sure you update your ChromeOS to the latest version then follow the steps in the video and you are good to go. It is very easy.

    How come I don't have that option to make lacros my only browser??

    • @TechforSenior
      @TechforSenior  Před 3 měsíci

      Tim. If you install Lacros as I showed in the video it should be your only Browser. Google is getting very close to making it a universal update in the next couple of months. If you do nothing it will just happen.

    • @tilamz6
      @tilamz6 Před 3 měsíci

      @@TechforSenior What I meant to say is, the option is not there. Lacrosse as my only browser is not there.

      @TechforSenior  Před 3 měsíci

      @@tilamz6 If you follow my video and the option isn't available behind the flags then Google has taken that option away as they get ready to convert everyone, It should happen in the next couple of months. If you did change as I did then the changes stay.
