In this editorial episode, Mr. Sujit Nair addresses the ongoing controversy surrounding TMC Lok Sabha MP Mahua Moitra. BJP MP Nishikant Dubey has submitted a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, making ""cash for query"" allegations against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, and calling for an inquiry committee to be formed, as of October 15th.
Dubey has also called for her immediate suspension from the House, claiming that there were exchanges of bribes between her and businessman Darshan Hiranandani in return for raising questions in Parliament and receiving cash and gifts.
In his letter titled ""Re-emergence of Unethical 'Cash for Query' Practices in Parliament,"" Dubey accuses Moitra of a ""Serious Breach of Privilege,"" ""Contempt of the House,"" and a 'Criminal Offense' under Section 120A of the IPC.
In response to these allegations, Moitra stated that she would welcome any motion against her once the pending breach of privileges against ruling party members has been addressed. She also mentioned the need for authorities to investigate the Adani coal scam before pursuing allegations against her.
Dubey's letter also mentions receiving evidence from Jai Anant Dehadrai, an advocate, showing alleged exchanges of bribes between Mahua Moitra and Darshan Hiranandani, a prominent business figure, in exchange for parliamentary questions.
According to the letter, this evidence suggests that, out of a total of 61 questions posted by Moitra, around 50 of them were intended to protect or promote the business interests of Darshan Hiranandani and his company. These questions often revolved around the Adani Group, which was competing with the Hiranandani Group for business opportunities.
The letter from Dubey claims that the documents provided are reminiscent of the ""Cash for Query"" episode from December 12, 2005 and alleges a quid pro quo arrangement involving raising money from a businessman in exchange for parliamentary questions, ultimately targeting a rival business group.
In summary, the letter concludes that this incident represents a re-emergence of the unethical practice of 'cash for query,' and it questions the moral facade displayed by Mahua Moitra, asserting that it conceals a criminal conspiracy and challenges her reputation as a 'firebrand Member of Parliament.'

Yes, technically speaking she should not be hounded on media platforms, in the manner in which it is being done. A suspect cannot be treated like a convict. The ethics committee however will be packed with members from the BJP, so much for its neutrality/impartiality. The CBI probe is not likely to arouse much of a trust, given its inability to stand up for truth and justice in the face of pressure from the ruling dispensation. However it maybe too premature to exonerate the lady MP from the allegations, she is surrounded with. All that any impartial citizen wants to know is, whether justice is being done and the unvarnished truth is what we are entitled to. The strong arm of the State/Law has no right to punish an innocent, as much as it has no right to spare the guilty.

I don't agree with you on the issue of log In ID. I believe there is two step verification On entering Ing User ID and Password, NIC sends an OTP to Ms Moitra's Mobile and when she submits it only then the access is granted. I don't know If Ms Moitra had given her mobile also to Dilshan

Few things need to be established before Mahua can be declared guilty as charged.
Is it against the parliament's moral code of conduct to share one's id and password with outsiders?
If yes, and it can be established that questions were asked through Darshan's IP address using Mahua's ID and code, then she will be punished as per the moral code of conduct.
Far more serious allegation is taking money for asking questions.

Darshan is Mahua's friend and it is perfectly normal for people in public life to get expensive gifts. Modi himself gets gifts worth several crores.
If the disciplinary committee has tangible proof in the form of material, video or digital evidence of Mahua taking money and gifts for asking questions then only she stands guilty as charged.
Otherwise at most she can be accused of sharing her parliament website ID and password with a non member.

Second it is IMPOSSIBLE to show proof of cash transfer, thats the reason so many people use it to cover their tracks, but she will need to explain that with 1L per month salary and not having a husband, how come she can afford multiple designer accessories which even high earning americans cannot afford.
Thirdly, if NOT legal to accept expensive personal gifts. Read the law. Thats why when Modi gets them he gives it to the state as it was given to the designation not to him personally. You can verify this.
@jonron3805 if someone receives gifts beyond a certain amount they have to declare it in their income tax declaration and possibly pay a certain amount as tax. If she has received gifts beyond the exempt limit and not declared the same in hee annual IT filing then she will be charged as per the IT act. Hiranandani now has succumbed and landed himself in the soup after his affidavit which is clearly due to the pressure from the Ministry. He is trying to sabe his skin. Alternatively, Afani may have used his money power as he has done with the Indian media.

In fact, the charges against Mahaua Moitra are just trumped up by vested interest to shut her up. Surely, Moitra, who was VP of a major international financial company, is not dumb enough to give her login id & password to get mentioned by you on this show. It's quite evident that Dubey is trying to get even with Moitra for raising questions about Adani. This is nothing but harassment of Moitra so that she keeps her mouth shut on Adani.
