Extremely helpful. 2006 Toyota Matrix AWD Rear Propeller Driveshaft is like this with tapered slots. Seems counter intuitive to assemble as shown but only way it works!

Great help, thanks. I received replacement cv axles that were bound up. This was the problem from the reman company. Thumbs up!
Edit: I sent a link to this video to ECS tuning as proof for the CV axles I received that were bound up due to being assembled incorrectly.

I've rebuilt Subaru c.v.'s before but I bought some used and went to fit and despite being recently rebuilt it turns out my bought t4 driveshaft was like this and this is the first video I saw lol
hi, we have come across rebuilt cv where someone has assembled them the wrong way and not checked/tested the movement. often quicker to get permission from the supplier and then correct them yourself than to send back and get replacement. cheers
If you install a complete new cv joint onto a tailshaft do you have to rebalance the complete tailshaft ?
hi, usually the new cv joints are balanced anyway. if you need to remove/disassemble for whatever reason, its always good practice to mark as many components as you can, so you can put it back same as it was or to decide if you can flip a part around if it is wearing one side and not the other. cheers
Hey good video. I also found out that the cage has a groove side and a flat side. I read online that the gooved side goes towards the axle and the flat side towards the wheel. I don't know if it makes much of a difference but you do want to get it on how it was on before and get right the first time. There's alot of details you can miss when working with these things mines fell out when I removed it so it was a pain. Yours looked the same on both sides so that's different.
thanks for that, yeah most have a groove to show assembly. cheers
Thanks, This was helfull as my CV on a Tailshaft was rigid with no play whats so ever.. Bearing were put in incorrectly.. Thanks Save me Heaps $$$$$
hi, glad if helped. a few beers always appreciated if deserved. link is in description. cheers
Sounds like an Aussie accent. I'll get you a James Boag's next time I am on the Gold Coast. Notice that the inner part with the splines is flush on one side and has a raised section on the opposite side. I wonder why and I wonder which end of the splined shaft goes into which end, the flush or raised side?
hi, always good to mark things/take reference points before you pull things apart. we are in north east country vic. cheers
Sir please help ,i need this bearing for skoda laura 2008 model ,i find this bearing on my city ,but didn't get this bearing, please reply me
hi, no sorry try a parts supplier or dealership. cheers
Just to mention the cagfe and the housing have inner and outer sides... They are not interchangeable, although I dont think they would make much diference... look at the cage edges one is square, the other one has a chanf. also the housn has a recess where the gasket fits btwn the cv and the tranny flange.
hi, awesome info, thanks for that cheers
I live in Minnesota and my 2012 ML350 with 81,000 miles makes a clunking noise when I make a hard right or left turn. Have shown to the dealer and independent mechanic and they all said there is nothing wrong with axle, shaft or the rubber is not punctured. The noise comes only during the harsh winter and not in warm or summer weather. At this point of time I am thinking greasing needs to be done as per another video that I came across. Any idea of what grease or how much grease is needed for the AWD 4Matic vehicle? Not sure if there are 2 or 4 joints. Also, rough labor cost or how many hours it would take to do this please? Video - czcams.com/video/XFLaCo9Pbv8/video.html
hi, make sure you use cv grease. it is alot tackier than normal grease. cheers
Need a beer?
link is in the description. cheers
This guy has re assembled the star and cage wrong...
