  • We’ve all heard the stories of how someone Crashed a motorcycle from friends and family, but coming across one and seeing it first hand is not something to be taken lightly. Sadly, our travels take us past a motorcycle mishap - reminding us just how dangerous our beloved sport can be.
It brings to mind how quickly things can go wrong even for the most vigilant and careful.
Our thoughts and prayers are for everyone to have a safe and grand summer out exploring - keep the rubber side down and the shiny side up.

I bought a 59 Harley super Glide when I got out of the USMC in 67. Rode it until I bought a smaller Dyna Lowrider in 2001. I am bumping 80 now and slowing down. I live on the Gulf Coast in Alabama. A group of us ride to the Smokies most every October and ride all week ridding 1000 miles in the mountains. I thought I knew most everything about them until I watched your video. I have a jacket just for the mountains. I sewed a sleeve and glove on my left shoulder so I didn't have to wave at every biker. Thanks so much for your videos. Be safe.

Beautiful scenery and waterfalls there. It’s too bad about the accident and as you said you don’t know the details. We can feel bad for them but our primary concern should be keeping ourselves from a similar potential situation. Practice riding skills and learning from others with more experience than you is always helpful. Too many people with big bikes only know how to ride in a straight line and have no idea how to take an uphill or downhill tight curve safely on a bike. As many have shown us here on CZcams, it’s not the bike, it’s the rider that is in control

Less miles travelled these days for medical reasons, but I keep the Victory polished and maintained. Watching your videos keeps me a bit more grounded, so thanks for your choice of roads and destinations. Keep 'em coming and ride safe and remember Chris, when you get caught up in the emotion of things it's a good idea to pull over and breath deeply for a while.

And to be in shock or get emotional when seeing such accidents, just shows how warm heart you guys are, and shows the sense of being on the road, anything can happen, and yes, it is dangerous. However, warm hearts like you people can turn motorcycling a better activity Worldwide when this sense of humanity and brotherhood comes up the way Chris spontaneously let it show... This tragic reality of another rider's crash is a stark reminder for all of us of the inherent danger in the hobby/lifestyle we have chosen. The question Chris asks is so poignant. "What are you supposed to do?" I can almost guarantee that the rider/s involved in that crash would say to go ride, enjoy the rest of the day on your bike and get the wind therapy we all strive for. This is why I always say stay smooth and keep the shiny side on top. Ride like everyone is aiming for you and no one can see you.

My heart goes out to the rider that was in the wreck. My heart goes out to Chris too. Hearing her break down shows her heart for others, and that's not a bad thing. Other than the accident, I hope you enjoyed your time there. I'd sure like to show you both around sometime. You are doing what I hope to do one day. Don't be so sure something can't fall off because you have I tied on so good.
I was cruising on my Ultra Classic with my small ruck tied on my rack on top of my trunk. It was secured to the rack with bungee netting and some straps especially for tying down things like that. I was riding from Spokane, WA to my place in Montana. As I was cruising at 75mph on I-90 east of Kellogg and west of Wallace before the curves. You may have noticed a bump coming off one of the bridges there. Just after I went over it, I glanced in my left mirror and saw my ruck fall off my trunk and start cart wheeling and then sliding down the center of the lane behind me. I pulled over immediately and ran back to get my ruck. I picked my ruck up and brought it back to the bike where my wife was waiting.
When I got home I was able to open my ruck and inspect everything. Yep, my laptop was definitely crunched and I had to buy a new one to replace it.
It's still the best laptop I've ever had. Even better than the one I replaced it with. I had special peripheral equipment I could use with the specific ports on the old laptop. I still can't use any of that equipment now because I don't have any of the right types of ports on the replacement laptop.
I was positive I had my ruck very well secured and... you know what they say about even the best laid plans...
    God speed my friends...

Hard to see an accident for sure. Two weeks ago I had a 20 foot section of steel guard rail come off a truck in a sweeper that was coming right at me in the opposing lane. I have ridden over 400,000 miles on motorcycles, but it brought home the fact that you never know. I ride with a military group,so far this year in the tri state area of Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky, we have had two major accidents with one a fatality, and one incident of road rage by a a driver in a car that for whatever reason wanted to break up the motorcade while we we escothe remains of a fallen brother from the fatal accident mentioned earlier. Yes it is dangerous for US MOTORCYCLE RIDERS, Yes we choose to live, and love this life. Imo our risk has greatly increased with the amount of distracted driving with use of so many electronics in vehicles and on motorcycles. Please continue to ride safe, ride your own ride, ride with respect, and PLEASE, TO ALL, RIDE and DRIVE SOBER... Love n Respect to you both. Prayers up...

I worked many years at the local county ambulance during the Fall Harley Davidson Ride in Tomahawk, WI. I have been very fortunate to not have any calls with deaths, but I did see some mangled messes. I still ride, and very carefully especially on the windy roads. Please be careful and go home alive.

Oh, am I wound up now. I rode the Moonshiner's 28 to the Kickstand on my first motorcycle trip in 2006 on my VS800. That was my first trip on a bike. I was holding onto those handlebars so tight I had a terrible headache and stiff shoulders when I got to the Kickstand, but I sat there thinking this was all worth it. So pretty and fun! By the way, this is where I learned of the Patriot Guard Riders; well worth the trip.

The Blue Ridge Parkway has to be the most beautiful stretch of road in the country. My wife and I live in SC and over the years traveled every mile of the Parkway by motorcycle and some of it many times. It ends in Pennsylvania farthest point north. My favorite part of the Blue Ridge is Grandfather Mountain. We were up there two weeks ago but did not ride to the top. Back in the 90's it cost $9 to ride to the top and we did. Now it is $48 for one motorcycle, two people. We did not make it this time Enjoy our part of the country.

Only explanation I can come up with is the rider ran the corner wide and side swiped the unfortunate car. Looking that it could have been a head on without the car breaking hard. Wrong place at the wrong time.
Your brain can just go on autopilot thinking about anything but what's happening in front of you. Boom you are in the ditch. Seen it happen with my father right in front of me. He walked away with a sore knee. But I knew that was his last ride.
Dumb stupid mistakes maybe you'll walk away with in a car. Almost always fatel on a motorcycle. Makes you feel sick seeing or hearing a rider down but you can only control what you can control.

I've been riding on the road for 46 years and have two crashes, one in 2014 where a 16 year old girl pulled out in front of me and I T-boned her at 40 mph. Another one in 2022 where a car merged into my wife and I at road construction location. Three lanes were being merged to just one, the one I was in. Still riding, and loving every mile! Two wheels down!

I have always lived by the creed that motorcycling is only as dangerous as you make it. Lots of motorcycles on those mountain roads and a lot of motorcyclists riding beyond their abilities. I am far more concerned with getting hit by another motorcycle than a car when I ride up there.
