ALLELUJAH is a warm, humorous, and deeply moving story about surviving old age. When the geriatric ward in a small Yorkshire hospital is threatened with closure, the hospital decides to fight back.
ALLELUJAH celebrates the spirit of the elderly patients whilst paying tribute to the deep humanity of the medical staff battling with limited resources and ever-growing demand.
Directed by Richard Eyre (Notes on Scandal, Iris) from a screenplay by Heidi Thomas (Call the Midwife, Cranford) based on the stage play by Alan Bennett (The Madness of King George, The Lady in The Van), ALLELUJAH features a powerhouse cast led by Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous) and newcomer Bally Gill, supported by Judi Dench (Notes on A Scandal, Iris), Derek Jacobi (I Claudius, Frasier), David Bradley (Harry Potter, Game of Thrones), Russell Tovey (The History Boys) and Julia McKenzie (Cranford, Marple).

I'm a 65 year old Aussie nurse and I love this tribute. I just hope it's the actors' true feelings and not simply words they are paid to say. As to the woman who spoke of watching her nurse relatives "fight to hold on to their compassion" we are at a point where there isn't time for compassion. Compassion doesn't fill managements coffers, it's all "push them in and get them out so we can fit more throough the door" . Such a sad situation and one that I no longer wish to be a part of even though we are short-staffed. These days public patients are more demanding than private ones and so horribly rude and aggresive. After forty-Six YEARS OF CARING I DON’T CARE !!!!!! If you know so much from Dr Google then go heal yourself. That aside, thank you for the entertainment and I will be going to see this movie soon 💖

@catscan2022 You clearly don't know what you're talking about, unless you've walked the walk (I have for over 40 years) then you cannot truly understand what nurses go through, have to learn, have to put up with or how they are effected & have to learn how to deal with everything including their own emotions. It's an extraordinary journey & a profession that I'm so glad I chose. In all walks of life there are people who work in a people profession who don't care but the majority of nurses I know do care. Burn-out is an unfortunate consequence as covid has aptly demonstrated.

I wish the US had something like the NHS. I also wish I would be able to see this movie.

As a US citizen, I've always wished we could have something like the NHS too. It felt unreal when I first heard of it years ago and I wanted to move to Britain.

I’m a student nurse and went to see this with my parents on my birthday. I wasn’t expecting the twist but the ending brought me to tears. This movie was very well done. I’m getting emotional even as I type out this comment

I enjoyed this film, though I was unprepared for the twist. But the clues were there. I was crying by the end, though I was still reeling as well. I'm not really sure how to classify this movie.

We don’t get health care for nothing Jennifer. It’s free at point of contact, but we pay for it via taxes and national insurance contributions.
Jayne Richardson, you are correct, Social Care is an underfunded shambles and has a negative knock on effect on the NHS - and vice versa.

Thatcher is to blame for seperating socia care out of the NHS in the late 80s

Based on the description and trailer, I thought this was going to be a feel good film with a happy ending - so I was a bit shocked 😂 But if you don’t mind a twist, this is the film for you.

I really wanted to like this film. It has a brilliant cast, and has some nice moments but the weird story twist completely ruins it, making the last section feel very hurried, and the speaking to the camera bit at the end has less impact than I am sure was intended. Disappointing.
