Neither of them are the right way to go, and both have their own consequences. It's incredible. I'd never felt more conflicted from a choice in this game, even when I decided how V ends up.

well said, the game doesnt have a good ending, especially in PL. if you are 100% confident in your decision you are coping or werent paying attention. I mean the game spells it out for you - its betrayal either way

@@nothingisawesomeExactly, I have seen so many people defending song endlessly and that her endings is the best, happiest ending. They cant see the bigger picture because shes the new pretty girl. No ending is good, they're both bad. At this point it's just about choosing the one that's the least bad. And sending so mi away in my opinion is the best, not because she deserves it but because the alternative is selling out to corps, Alex dies and you lose everyone. But you're also left with no cure and back to square one, I guess there's just no happy ending in NC

There's definitely a lot of interesting considerations that we've all gotta juggle playing through this here, but to me there does seem to somewhat of a consensus that a) giving her to myers is the worst option no matter how you get there, and b) the fact that she betrays and murders so many people (including V) just for the sake of herself and her alone, makes siding with her wholesale and killing Reed a pretty bad moral decision.

Technically, the "best" ending is not saving Myers at the start. Songbird is now free in Dogtown without Myers holding her leash (Hansen is there but she can definitely outplay him easily to either get the neural matrix and flee OR just escape), Reed is alive and never got reactivated, Alex too, Militech/NUSA will be thrown into some disarray so they won't be able to invade any more areas, and Arasaka gets their comeuppance in most of the main game endings.
It's definitely not the best gameplay-wise, but I'd say it's superior to any of the endings in terms of what happens to all of the characters and the world. Songbird is... not very happy though.

For me the deciding factor was actually the scene in the clouds where you talk to the AI joytoy. If you talk to the AI/joytoy, which is designed to fulfill your "deepest desires" or whatever, it was just providing emotional support for V, which kinda shows how lonely and desperate V was. Throughout the story we find many allies and friends and meaningful connections, but Songbird, in a very similar situation to V, is surrounded by FIA people and the president herself, who put her in this situation in the first place, and had no one there for her. I felt empathetic, saw the plot twist of her betraying us coming miles away, and saved her anyways. It felt like a beautiful ending to the story.

honestly dipping my toe into the Lore behind Myers, seeing and understanding So Mi's history, and knowing just how much of a tool Reed is I will always side with So Mi even if she was betraying you from the get go. So Mi was groomed to be a spy and forced into that line of work since she was 19. then immediately turned into a weapon by Myers and was slowly having her memories eaten away at her by the black wall AI. Myers doesn't see So Mi as a human but a weapon and an evidence brief of her corruption and breaking of international law. Reed will say and believe one thing but the moment Myers snaps her fingers he was change his line of thinking just to accomodate Myers agenda. So Mi deserves to be free from that madness. and playing as V and watching Myers make the biggest fuck up of her life attacking territory that is not owned by the NUSA, failing to get So Mi but still having to deal with the back lash of breaking international law just warms me up way more than just saying fuck you to her face as you deliver So Mi's body to her just for her to use her or extract what ever information that she needs from her body. So Mi had lost her humanity because of the NUSA and Myers. she's a product of a broken system as well as Reed. also Alex deserves her vacation.

I find killing Reed good because it's like giving freedom to him too, freedom from principles and control.
Helping Reed is complicated. Sure, V gets cured, but no one gets personal liberty, even V. Reed and So Mi continue to be personal tools, while V loses his freedom and becomes an ordinary citizen, a nothing with no one near. He loses that freedom he had while being a merc.

He does blame V for failing the mission and not taking the FIA serieously for not keeping SO mi alive and deliberately killing her but he does seem more at peace with SO mi dead instead of the weight of uncertainty that he carries for years keeping So Mi alive and allowing Myers to have complete control over her. it only worses with time as 2 year passes and loses contact with SO mi because his clearance is lowered with the new recruitment job.

I believed Reed when he said he’d help her get out, I thought it’d be a big win “I don’t have to betray anyone. Songbird might think we’re betraying her, but wait until she wakes up free” only for all hell to break loose, still my favourite ending helping Reed and killing Songbird, I think it’s beautifully tragic that the one person putting survival above all else asked to be put down in the end.

I also think that's the only ending where Reed tells you that you were right about killing Songbird and he has doubts about going back to work for Myers. In all the other endings he either dies or goes back to work behind a desk and would either hang himself like Johnny says or repeat the same cycle as Songbird with a new recruit. All while living in denial that songbird is better off alive in probably some horrific state than dead. He's even been cut off from seeing/interacting with her so he has no clue what they're doing to her.
At least in this ending Reed seems to have a chance to move on with his life and Songbird doesn't get experimented/abused by Myers or Mr Blue Eyes. Plus with Songbirds death the black wall stuff is safe and you've averted the risk of another war kicking off.

If you care about good gameplay and rewards, DEFINITELY side with Reed. You get a badass Kurt Hansen bossfight (with his weapons), insane Maxtac bossfight, one of the best horror missions in a game I've ever seen, and blackwall cyberdeck/SMG. Totally worth it

    • @CryingCreeperMLG
      @CryingCreeperMLG Před 5 měsíci

Very appropriate for the story too. If you're willing to sell out everyone, including the terminally ill victim of the government who is in an even worse situation than V, then you get your rewards. You get your pretty little guns and cyberdecks and Iconic weapons. You get your little cure. But you're an objectively scummy person, willing to sell out anyone and willing to throw away everyone in your life just so you can keep breathing a little longer. As a guy who has been terminally ill from cancer, it's really well done. Like Mike Pondsmith (IIRC) has said, "you can't save the world, you can only save yourself." Doing the King of Pentacles ending on a Corpo felt so appropriate when I ran thru it. Siding with Reed is so much the wrong choice that Reed himself will go out of his way to tell you that you both made the wrong decision multiple times, but you DID still save yourself. Save your own life. But... you also became an absolute nobody in the process. You threw away everything Jackie died for. It's the evil ending, but you benefit from it so much that its hard to see yourself as the villain. Sure, Songbird goes right back to being a NUSA slave, a weapon, and Reed gets put behind a desk and forgotten about. Sure, Panam never wants to talk to you again and the only person willing to stay in touch with you is a sellout corpo ripperdoc, but you lived. That's enough, right?
Absolutely not worth it from a storytelling, narrative, morality standpoint. But sure, worth it from a "wow i get toys and fights :D" standpoint.

I feel like So Mi grew to care about V on a personal level by the end, which is why she left the choice of her fate in V's hands in the eleventh hour. It's sad as hell because she was legally declared dead at 19 (and there's a grave for her in NYC that she visited once with Reed and Alex) when she joined the FIA. She was blackmailed into it after initially refusing Reed's recruitment; the FIA told her NetWatch that would kill not just her but everyone close to her as well unless she was protected by the government. So, ultimately, she really didn't have a choice in the matter at all. Most of her adult life was spent being Myer's right hand and it goes to show where she learned to manipulate. She learned from the best. So Mi didn't have anyone she could rely on until she took a chance with V. Her options were severely limited and she was running out of time. V has made their fair share of poor choices, too, with the heist being one of them. I think So Mi is villainized too much-even more than Kurt, a literal criminal warlord. Alas, nobody is a saint in Cyberpunk 2077. I think we can all collectively say that Myers is a c*nt though and didn't deserve how So Mi didn't want to leave her for dead in Dogtown despite everything.

I knew this decision was ultimately coming and I was very torn going into this mission but honestly as soon as Reed and Alex dropped the twins, that's how I made my decision. Overall just sympathized more with Songbird more than I ever did with Reed or Alex. Wasn't even surprised when I learned she'd lied about the cure. She was just a desperate as V and frankly I knew this was how it was going to be anyways. No way Song and V both got a happy ending. Wrong city, wrong people.

I played PL all the way through first, making my own choices without any spoilers of what it could lead to, based on my gut instinct : I chose to help Reed, and at the end to give Song what she wants (aka not be a puppet for Myers).
After doing the other endings, I would re-do all those choices all over again.
Songbird, as much as her life is a fuckin mess and she doesn't deserve what happened to her, decided to put everyone's life at risk : all the flight crew on space force one, then Reed, then you. She doesn't care, or if she does you know she convinced herself that it was necessary. She comes to you with that "I can help you" thing knowing full well, from the begenning that she has no intentions of helping you. And if you help her, you happen to cross the path of Reed, which out of all the people living in NC/DT is one that never lied to you, and that genuinely wanted to help songbird. Reed didn't deserve to die, he too was used by the NUSA, and quite techically was a pawn that got sacrificed the moment he outlived his usefulness to Myers (not even mentionning the fact that all those NUSA operatives in the space port died in acute pain and agony through the blackwall. I know it was kill or be killed, but that doesn't mean that blowing up a fuckin starport terminal was the way to go.
My only regret in this was to Alex. She didn't deserve to be gutted by Hansen the way she did, but honestly, I blame that on Songbird, and the lack of communication that Reed and Songbird has, or rather the lack of trust that Songbird has towards you and Reed. Even if she's "showing her trust" in one quest, that doesn't stop her from no believeing you that Reed genuinely want to help her.

She seemed all too desperate to want to escape and run, and I got the vibe that's exactly what the AI would have wanted; to start infecting whatever other systems it could whilst safe from the NUSA. Also, despite her previously betraying Reed he clarified that he had no ill-feelings, and genuinely wanted to help leading up to this moment. So the decision was easy for me to side with Reed, and her instant change in demeanour when she realised only exposed the manipulation she began to sow last minute.

I played it both ways and it seems obvious that CDPR intended the player to side with Reed. If you side with So Mi, Alex will kill Hansen which is a really anticlimactic way to wrap up the main villain, and then Alex disappears. And the rest of the game is a generic shootemup in an airport, and So Mi admits her lie to V ruining any goodwill left.
Whereas if you side with Reed, the Blackwall takes over So Mi and kidnaps her, you get to fight Hansen and kill him, Alex is killed by Hansen in a truly gruesome way, Reed and you have to hunt down So Mi, take down Max Tac, infiltrate a secret abandoned Militech base and run and hide from a spider robot and the Blackwall AI that is using So Mi as a central processor in an AI core, and ypu get to explore and see So Mi's past. It's much bigger and pays off the whole DLC and all the characters in a bigger way. Sure the ending of this route isnt happy, but you can free So Mi from her enslavement in a way and art with Reed on good terms.

Finding out later that she still betrays you even if you do help her just means she’s untrustworthy and not worth saving.

Judging Reed for his profession is just effete nihilism. The guy displays none of the bad faith So Mi clings to the entire DLC. The tipping point for me was learning that Militech was working on a Soulkiller of their own. If Rosiland has access to a soulkiller like weapon she will use it on Songbird. I just can’t let that happen. Not to someone I can save. (Ps I haven’t done any other endings so I can’t confirm any of those suspicions yet)

While I find Songbirds situation sad, I side with Reed. He is lost in his duties (staying loyal to NUSA while clearly hating on Myers and therefore on the NUSA since she IS NUSA, even if he does not think about it like that (or at least big part of it) ), but has been an honest guy from the start. Not to mention he seems to genuinely care about V enough to help you, which can be seen in the new ending. It is obvious that he does care for Songbird a lot, she is like his daughter. Siding with him keeps her alive depending on how you go about it. Sure, she becomes Myers "lab rat" once again but as Reed said... at least she lives. Plus who knows... she might get her chance to live a normal life after some time, with the help of some A.I. replacing her skills (or just having biotechnica (I think it was them) cloning tech clone her with the abilities (Reed making it his mission to have So Mi free or something...) . There are numerous A.I. out there so I doubt that something huge like NUSA would not be able to find some sort of replacement for So Mi with the help of Reed vouching for her silence or some shit like that. Not to mention one last thing... while she may become an actual friend of V and genuinely caring for him (like V is for her or rather I was (since it depends on how you go about it) as a friend or whatever else... the moment in this mission after you choose to side with Reed, shows you more than enough. She did not care much about anyone else other than herself there. She straight up tries to light V up right away without a second thought. Again... who knows what would have happened to the relationship if this shit did not happen... or rather did but with it being panned out differently (since it is the reason V meets Reed, So Mi, Alex, Aurore, Aymeric and many more after all)
I LOVE THIS GAME SO MUCH. Already hyped for 2nd installment of Cyberpunk, whenever it comes.

She 100% has no chance at a normal life if you give her to Myers. Reed only says that because he’s lying to himself, Myers doesn’t care one bit how So Mi or Reed feel, the Orbital Air scenes with Myers make it very obvious. Only thing Myers cares about it more power and sustaining it, she’s nothing but a corp personified.
Only happy ending is breaking the cycle of betrayals by sending So Mi to the moon despite her wronging you. Reed will die but it’s better for him to die believing he was protecting Song than to live out his days depressed knowing he ruined her life.

The trailer clearly gave me an indication of a "Don't Trust Anybody" type of feel. Clearly everybody has an agenda in there. So I went with the lesser evil (Send So Mi to the moon). The 1st red flag is when Myers obliterate the 2 neighbours (they died from the get go or it's been taken care of). The 2nd red flag is that she chewed Reed for his failures despite the dude trying all his best to be loyal to her. The 3rd red flag is she literally gave the orders to obliterate every guard on the Spaceport. So do you really want to give a WMD to Rosalind or you help a seriously incapacitated terrorist to escape? Alex also warned us about who to trust and in the end I decided to save her as well.

I always play this game being totally immerged. I chose on my first play to side with somi. I've been scared as hell for her life since the start of the quest from the end. I felt like she wasn't saying everything to me, but i wanted to save her AND save my V. I wasn't prepared for the moment she said she couldn't save us, i felt betrayed and talked irl out loud "damn somi...".
But... As cringe as it sounds, i felt exactly like all the times i got really betrayed, and felt the same as one of my recent... Big betrayal. So, because I'm becoming more immune to this and because i repsected the will of somi to survive, i chose to save her. I hesitated a lot, but that's the path i was willing to take. Yes, i was stupid doing this, being so naive and betrayed, yet helping her. But it was on my conviction that she has the "right" to live. And i promised her.
But when reed appeared to stop me... Fuck, i felt so conflicted, because i like Reed a lot. Strangely, i feel really close to him, i feel like i understand him a lot.. Thats odd
And.. I tried so hard to convince him to stop, i tried to keep him safe, even when he proposed me to give songbird back and take the medicine, i hesitated like never before but somi had the right to live and reed had the right to die in his conviction, to be finally free from his incoming depression.
    I killed him
And fuck i know that's cringe, but i really cried, then i cried when i put somi in the spaceship, because even V was saying that he wanted to go to, to be free like her and when i saw that space ship going to the moon with songbird inside, i really felt a lot of confort in my heart. That wasn't the most rational decision. But that definitely was the one that was the most aligned with my convictions.
The day after when i heard Myers and powerfull beings weren't gonna let this story slide, i was like "yeah, go fucking find me, am gonna fire the shit of your azz myself"
And knowing Alex left in a paradisiac city in good terms with us, and that somi succeded to survivre from her operation, made me really happy, yet strangely nostalgic
Know, i quit dogtown, with Reed's weapon as my main, in his memory, knowing that i took the best decision according to my feelings.

I love how differently people see this decision and the Phantom Liberty characters in their playthroughs. For me personally, it wasn't a difficult decision who to side with because I role played as my V. Phantom Liberty recontextualized the whole main story of Cyberpunk 2077 because my V as an ex-Arasaka netrunner who just wanted to be free and survive saw herself in Songbird and completely identified with her aims and actions. While sitting in the airport train next to Songbird when she was unconscious and slowly dying, my V / I thought: She's me. I would have done the same to survive and live freely. Handing her over to Reed and the authorities wouldn't just have meant betraying Songbird, it would have been a self-betrayal. So, my V learned that there are things that are more important than her own life and probably became a bit more similar to Johnny in this regard. Her compassion made her carry Songbird to the rocket and shoot Reed. It was a good ending despite ending up without a cure for herself.

I really think helping somi is the best ending there is. Granted she's manipulative and a liar but that's just how she operates and her goal is a justifiable one, she had enough of being a slave to NUS and Miyers. She never meant harm for V, the other point is Reed. I really liked him too and wished there was an ending where he betrayed the NUS, but he's purposely naive and loyal to a fault. I get that he's a man of principles but the NUS sure as hell dont believe on that shit other than putting it as a facade, remember they sold him out and left him to die yet he still has good faith in them. Both somi and reed are just pawns gettimg used by NUS. At least somi wanted freedom from that, wish it was the same for reed too...
