So... I got one of these bikes for $500... Didnt run, hadnt ran in close to 10 years. He had a carb rebuild kit and a few other things included... I rebuilt the carb, (Im in Pheonix, so the heat turned the gas into tar. It was a disaster..) And cleaned the air cleaner. After figuring out the decompression lever, i got it to run. It ran pretty good for a bit, but now im having a stalling problem. I have messed with the air/fuel mixture 100 times and the only way it will stay running is if i turn the idle up. Any ideas on why it wants to stall? Could it be the float? Or is it jetted wrong? Or is the idle supposed to be high? It is fairly easy to start now and goed down the road just fine. But cant figure out why it wants to stall at idle...
I raced one of these 400s in a few harescrambles here in va. Tight single track. It loved to stall. I did the exact thing you did and chased my tail for a while. The only thing i found that fixed the stalling at low rpms was adjusting the idle up a touch higher. I didnt have any issues after that, it ran great! Glad to hear you havnt given up on it 👍🍻

I got the same bike. It needs a new head tho. This sucks those cost like $500
