    Unbiased opinion. The Studebaker looked better than the other 3 cars.

    The sins of the fins from earlier Hawks were forgiven by the Gran Turismo’s styling. Brooks Stevens hit it out of the Park with this one!

    Just an absolute awesome car, the likes of just is not built today. To borrow some words from years ago. "The New Studebaker GT Hawk" When you care enough to build the very best. When Sherwood left, so pretty much did the life of the company.

    I like them both ! Tuff having to compete with, a Caddy, Lincoln, T-bird ! All nice cars . It’s been along time since I have seen a Hawk ! They made a 289 Super charged version to. That’s the one I’d want 4sp , fun car .

    • @OldsVistaCruiser
      @OldsVistaCruiser Před rokem

      I'm surprised that the T-Bird was included instead of the Imperial, as they were luxury makes. Besides, it should have been advertised against the Corvette and T-Bird, which were sporty cars.

    Studebaker started out making the Conestoga type wagons and carriages and such. Long before people started putting motors in them. Many of those heading west on the Oregon Trail were in a Studebaker. It was a loss of history when they folded. Heard they were still making them in Canada for a time afterward. I remember seeing one with the Canadian plates on it years after they'd ceased production in the U.S.

    • @StudebakerMuseum
      @StudebakerMuseum  Před rokem +1

      So Studebakers ended their production run in the US in 1963 and Canada in 1966. There are still quite a few on the road today thanks to groups like the Studebaker Drivers Club. Studebaker, as far as we can tell, never made Conestoga type wagons, but there regular farm wagons were a fixture of westward expansion.

    I'm waiting for a radical upgrade resto-mod to be made of one of these. It deserves to be given the most tasteful modern safety upgrades and brought into the class of car that it deserves. Kindig-It Design or Pur Sang could make this a genuine premium car.

    When class and style were still a part of American life. Not a grunge look in sight for years in the future.

    • @jakekaywell5972
      @jakekaywell5972 Před 3 lety +1

      Hate to tell you this, but the "grunge look" has always existed to varying degrees. The greasers of this time, for example, were exactly that. The subject Studebaker is a very nice car though, with styling of a caliber that you would have to pay much more for in a European number.

    • @davidw5731
      @davidw5731 Před rokem

      Well, at least grunge was the exception and not the rule in that era. I miss the days of my childhood when people dressed up, even if you were going to the movies, or downtown for the day. Of course, what is downtown anymore?

    Notice how there two Fords and a Chevy but no Chrysler? That's because a Chrysler 300 would have beat them all.

    • @jakekaywell5972
      @jakekaywell5972 Před 3 lety +1

      By 1962, the 300s styling had mutated into a veritable sow's ear. There's good reason why Chrysler gave Exner the boot the following year. There was also only one Ford. The other two were a Lincoln and a Cadillac respectively.

      Besides the fact that this is a Studebaker ad, the GT Hawk was never a competitor for the Corvette. Never meant to be. It was firmly in the T-bird's wheelhouse.
