      @hellschatt Před 8 lety +3

      +Crusader Studios As someone who hasn't watched star wars the 37s are cleary not enough to fully explain the character or show his motives. I mean it's good and calming to look at and creates a sense of longing (therefore I'm interpreting that the character is adventerous and that'll probably leave his place. Also the fact that he seems a little bit frustrated at the beginning and then is calm after watching the suns reinforces my assumption) but I could interpret a lot more or less into it. You're praising it far too much. You're praising the scene for something that it doesn't do.

    • @johndecker3120
      @johndecker3120 Před 8 lety +5

      +hellschatt I honestly think you're overlooking obvious elements. The act of looking to the horizon and, from his expression, seeming to find something appealing within it-but he doesn't look hopeful; as you say, it is a sense of longing. He sighs and his expression falls, and then he turns away, resigned to the fact that he is trapped where he is. His motives are clear: he just wants to get out of here and make a life for himself.
      And that *was* his character. Everything else that comes afterward is just him going with the flow and enjoying almost every minute of it. It doesn't provide any additional context, although it DOES serve to develop his character for the *next* movie.
      The fact that it's a sunset could suggest that this part of his life is, indeed, almost over, but that's not immediately obvious.
      And yes, I'm a fan of Star Wars-it's not my favorite franchise ever-but the scene is very effective. Star Wars is often beautifully shot; its problem, even in the originals, was always the dialog, which was at best uneven and at worst painful (especially in the prequels).

Once he turned around, his entire life as he knew it was never the same again, for better and worse. John Williams score in this scene perfectly captures this moment. It's the purest moment in the entire saga. Everyone can relate to feeling trapped, unfulfilled, yearning and longing for something beyond your circumstances and mundane day-to-day. In storytelling all you need is a gaze, just a single scene of a character or characters looking to convey everything that’s going on. How they’re feeling, what’s happening in their lives, their convictions and conflict.

    What makes this scene so great is just how relatable it is. Everyone of us at some point in lives has felt the same way Luke did in this scene where we each longed for and desired to be somewhere else than where we are currently at. We all have desperately wanted to escape the lives we are living and want to find a place where we belong and find purpose but are also are scared of the unknown and afraid to get out of our comfort zone and let go of our past to make that next big step that could change our lives forever.

    This scene has no dialogue but has so much depth and foreshadowing.
    Luke has a choice: Join the rebellion or stay with his uncle another year on the farm.
    Luke has a choice: join the dark side or the light side.
    Luke has a choice: go with obi-wan to save Princess Leia or stay with his aunt or uncle.
    Choice is the essence of this film. The suns represent a choice and path you must make to unleash your full potential. It’s so perfect.

    The best fantasy stories use their setting as a way to explore complex human emotions through extraordinary circumstances. This scene embodies that philosophy so phenomenally. It’s the best scene in 9 movies. I used to say Empire was my favorite, but that’s just the old edgy me. Star Wars is *the* perfect retelling of the legend of King Arthur, if you ask me. It is the embodiment of The Hero’s Journey. This will always be in my top 5 favorite movies of all time. This scene is the embodiment of why that is

Plus watch the prequels if you want to see what Luke would do after the events, you want to be bored to shit by him teaching Kylo, and Rey
