"Fuck merchants" - Jeff Gerstmann

Have you listened to podcasts lately? Soulless, smug jackasses who all laugh histerically at their own jokes (with the assistance of Adderall).
The chemistry of the bombcast's golden era was something that cannot be recaptured.
Remember when we just had to worry about SOPA and not the end of Net Neutrality? The good ol' days... :(
I miss hearing Ryan's laugh.
Today the USA is sorta kinda having this discussion. Ryan Davis lived in the future.
Bitcoin was at $13.45 when this episode aired. Now it's at $42,000.
$70,000 4 months later lol
Fun fact: i heard , $XX.99 formula was created to force the cashier to use the register and proceed to document the transaction and put cash in. Verses someone giving you $1.00, or $5.00 and you could pocket it easy. This was detoured by creating.... The penny back. jeff wants his penny.
When i listened to this podcast, i felt strange, i was siding with Jeff about pennies. Then i thought "wait..Ryan is totally right, why should we have pennies?"..but for some reason deep inside me, i feel the need for pennies. Pennies are like..my security blanket.
Little trivia, Gerstmann means Barleyman.
...that money's mine. I want my money.
Up with Pipo.
Of course klepek wants to get rid of cash
Oy
less then 5% copper actually (the "copper" you see is an alloy)
The key to removing pennies is this (and this is how Canada does it): If the total of your price comes to say $5.62 it will then become $5.60 if it's $5.63 or $5.64 it will become $5.65. So it all evens out over time. Now all this is null and void if you are paying with debit or credit.
I honestly thought I might be the only person who remembers fucking Pipo. THat useless goddamned one armed fuckbot... GOD I HATE THAT ROBOT!
Who uses cash anyway?
nickles4pennies
Lincoln created death.
Jeff doing all that to get $2 worth of pennies? How little is his time worth.
its funny that here in Canada we now actually won't have pennies anymore come this fall
I LOVE PENNIES!

Jeff is silly, here's how it works. Say a "merchant" owes you 53 cents, he will give you 55. If he owes you 52 it will be 50, sometimes you gain, sometimes you lose. It all balances out.
Except all prices will be adjusted to be in favor of the merchant, so you'd never "win".
Yes, I'm 4 years too late, but this is important, goddammit.
@@ch3burashka I’m also 4 years late. But they get to the actual answer. Everything is rounded off right now as is. Which is evident if we went the other way and introduced pre decimal British currency of fractions of penny coins. If we had smaller than penny coins we’d magically have to use them even though no current price has them. Well other than gasoline and that’s just another example of regular encounter with rounding that we don’t notice. Rounding by getting rid of pennies and nickels would simply work as everything does now.
Jeff yelling 'I want my fucking money' does make him sound like an insane person.
I'm with Ryan Davis. Fuck pennies.
They eventually touch on the actual answer. Everything is rounded right now as is. If we had smaller than penny currency like old timey Britain we'd see that in action. So eliminating the penny (and let's be real the nickel too) would just shift that rounding to the next larger denomination. It's fine.
Ryan's arguments don't hold a lot of weight, sorry Ryan =P
Every time I hear Jeff say "fuck Merchants" it sounds vaguely anti-semitic to me, but I guess it's because it's coming from someone called "Gerstmann"
Bitcoin won lol
until i can buy my groceries with bitcoin, no it hasnt'.
@@MrLego3160 theres many ways to do this right now
@@bigmac375 Yeah? i can go to my local sainsburys, and slap a hard drive down on the card reader?
