The problem with just ripping off a chunk and folding it like that creates tons of trapped air bubbles throughout your work.( You should also run a finger at the bottom of the clay when you first center your throw the create a seal, so your work doesn't go flying off at higher speeds)If you don't properly wedge your clay before throwing it, then your work will explode in the kiln.(the speed at which she pulled the clay was also a bit too fast) She also trimmed at the wrong stage, the clay should be at the leather stage, and she trimmed it at a really fast speed, slower speeds allow for more precision and less of a chance as destabilizing your work, you can see the effects of this in wobble of the cup at the end. These are just observations for anyone who wants to make a cup like this, knowing proper techniques helps relieve frustration when working with clay.

I think it's sped up, so the speed is likely not as much of an issue. Otherwise this whole video goes against almost every single thing I was taught in a college pottery/ceramics class I took once. Like, EVERY basic rule is broken here lmao???
@@Crow0567 No I caught that as well, didn't knead the clay not enough water speed WAY low ect. and using a wire to clean the top of a pot, sad. It should be perfectly balanced if it was thrown correctly.

I want a large cup not made in China, so I want to do this in Michigan. How do I find a studio that can help me? I dont have a kiln.
If u Google your area you might find a studio offering classes. Ask at the local library or even a small art gallery that may be able to point you in the right direction.

You can make a kiln in the ground. Its not that hard. My high school does it every year for the final potter class.
