Warranties, please. The manufactures almost never payout on warranties. They simply find a problem with the way it was installed. Also you have to use the complete system not just the shingle. Most roofers just buy the cheapest underlayment to maximize profit. You have to use all of their products. Felt, waterproofing, starter strips and maybe even their nails otherwise no warranty.
The best shingles to install that I'd put on my house personally would be owens corning. The pink bundles. This is coming from an actual professional roofer who has his own crew.
the problem always with home products...wasn't finding the products...it was always about finding the right contractors as 70% are all downright scums who do half ass jobs
Not in my case. First time using them in my 76 years. Installed April 30th 2024. Still cleaning tobacco juice from eave drip, fascia, and house today. Every time it rains. And in Florida that 4-5 times a week. What a mess and Owens Corning is no help what so ever. Installed by their platinum approved contractor. Who also just mangled the eave drip. Had to nail one corner to the fascia it was sticking out so far. Google tobacco juice shingles. Owens Corning Duration Quarry Gray.
The best shingles will be incorrectly installed by pretty much every roofer. They only care about speed, not proper installation which will get your "warranty" denied along with your insurance claim when if blows off. It's a very sad industry considering it's one of the most expensive things on/in your house.

Gotta replace the screws on a metal roof every 8-12yrs which costs thousands in materials and labor, plus the potential of damaging the metal. After 30yrs of that, you've already paid for a 50yr asphalt roof.
Your choice of contractor is likely more important than your brand of shingles. Your better roofing contractors use more nails or screws and have developed roofing systems for your area. Fact is that the average contractor does not install according to the manufacturer - they do a good enough for delivery that meets customer requests for low price. Also, there are fully synthetic roofing shingles that have superior life compared to the popular asphalt shingles.
Don't do asphalt!! A metal paneled roof with screws (*not standing seam type which is 3 times the cost) is only a VERY little more than an asphalt roof because they put it over the asphalt shingles. Go with a very light color to reflect the sun's heat and save on your summer power bill.
They absolutely do NOT put it over existing shingles… wtf are you talking about??? They tear the whole roof off down to plywood and use new underlayment and then put the metal roof on… 😳
Metal roofs require maintenance. The screws come loose then they must be prepared with larger once they come loose you are fucked and need a new roof. Dumb ass
Just so you know; the asphalt shingle is a piece of crap . . it is so thin it literally falls apart in your hand. I have done several roofs with this product and I will not put two layers of asphalt shingles on my roof. There has to be a better shingle that is not as heavy as lead. . . like slate or concrete. They are using "ceramic" in paint to increase the life of it so why not use ceramic clay in the roof shingle . . . it would reject the heat of the sun and keep the cool in during the summer: it would be a good choice on ceramic cloth which could be manufactured for a special ceramic coating which should last 50 years.
CR recommends Tamko....which means they don't know jack.
Means tamko cut a check for placement

companies are doing this and thats no way to do the H/O just install the whole system i could never sell for a company that does this
If it's installed by the shingle manufacturers certified installers they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.
Atlas Storm Master is a class 4 shingle.... Not a 3-tab
The atlas “3-tab” is actually there storm master slate and is actually impact resistant and class 4 shingles not 3-tab
Yep! It’s a high performance shingle
Hilarious they’re calling storm master a 3 tab

Hopefully they were durations and not Oakridge. If they were Oakridge they fucked you hard!

Have you worked with solar reflective shingles ?
Any opinions on metal roofs?

Lmfao he called that a 3 tab 😂 that’s one of the most expensive shingles available
Noticed that also... when the testers dont even Know what a 3 tab shingle is or looks like, you gotta take the review with a grain of salt..
Tamko are garbage! I have torn off two roofs with those shingles.

@White God The nails should NEVER be directly in the tar/sealing strip area.
Where are you getting your information lol

If you’re worried about wind, use decking screws in place of nails. 3 times stronger.
Shingle testers are great and all, but ask a real roofer what you need lmfao
They will just recommend the cheapest and the one that makes them the most money.
Those are not 3 tab lol
This guy sounds deceiving describing shingles he says it twice.
The OC is ok…. I wouldn’t put Tamko or Atlas on my roof.

Roof shingles should be replaced every 15 years minimum code

Wrong. I just watched a company put the metal on top of my neighbor's existing asphalt roof. People Definately do this!!!
I've read that it causes dampness and mold tho to put a metal roof over the old asphalt shingles.??
Why not standing seam? I'm reading this are better cause the fasteners are hidden. The other style can lead to worn out fasteners.
