How coincidental it is that the chest by the ruined portal had only the exact amount of obsidian he need and a flint and steel. Usually, it has some gold enchanted armour and a fire charge, which is really useless because a fire charge just disappear after use.

Also, wandering trader's aren't useless! One time I was in dire need of moss (it was for a small project) and a wandering trader popped up and one of his trades was for moss. So I got him home via a boat, got a few emeralds from one of my chests and bought the moss. Another time there was another wandering trader, and he sold melon seeds, so I bought them and that's how I started my (very small) melon farm. See? Wandering traders aren't useless.
well yea but most of the time they are
for me they were usefull at a moment when i needed water, i was on a oneblock map in which there was no water bucket given, i and with this dude i finally got one and things became *way* much easier
