I need to control 1 of those AC servo motor with a Raspberry pi and by just listening I think I have a clue 😅: feed an analog signal(0-10V as you are doing in here) to the motor; I'm planning to generate the signal with the RPi PMW and have some sort of hardware that would eventually output a range of 0-10V signal; and that's it; I would add few buttons/switches for the enable,reset and EmergencySwitch. I'm planning all this if the actual driver/controller supports DIO and AIO a the same time 😬😬🤞🏼🤞🏼thank you for the inspiration

    Tim, is there a difference between a "servo" and an "indexing servo". I want a servo to do something once it sees the Photo-Eye and gets enough encoder pulses. Then based on some inputs for start, and dwell, it cycles and goes back to a zero position. Thanks for you help.

    • @TimWilborne
      @TimWilborne  Před rokem +1

      An "indexing servo drive" has the motion control part built in. This usually means you can trigger a motion event to happen when an input such as a photoeye is seen. A regular servo drive requires some external motion controller to operate the servo drive.

    Tim, great video. I want to replace old system with a servo system. Similar machines have a 5hp motor. The process is the servo controller gets speed information and a Photo-eye to know when item is at a certain point. Then based on machine speed the servo shaft rotates at same speed as machine to push an item up using a part attached to the shaft. I'd like to know more about servos that use a start point, speed input and rotation (stops or dwells once rotated), and it returns to start waiting for the next cycle to begin. Maybe you'll do a video on these basics.

    • @TimWilborne

    • @heeder777
      @heeder777 Před rokem

      There are installations where you can have two servos per axis like a gantry router. One servo is the master and the second is the slave, You need to make sure your controller supports slave drives though.

      Plenty, but what would you gain?

    • @agdtec
      @agdtec Před 2 lety

      @@TimWilborne From what I have understood is servo motors are brushless have more torque in the targeted rpm range and are lighter and smaller than the motors that are more expensive. That being the main reason they are not used widely in tablesaws. But I was thinking that if servo motors would actually be strong enough and lighter I could retro fit one on a saw I have to move quite often. I would rather pay a bit more for a lighter solution, than strain my back. The lighter bench saws are very underpowered.
