The scariest thing for me about Boomers is how decrepit, lifeless, and close to rotting they look. The special infected are also creepy
I've been playing L4D since the first one came out and I've always been so fcking mind blown of how extremely well done the special infected models are. Not only their models, but also the sounds they make (when spawning, idle, taking damage, being on fire, attacking, dying, etc) as well as their animations. Spitter is my favorite. Valve really puts love, passion and effort when making their games.

I considered doing this but with jockeys instead, but then it really wouldn’t be boomers that were dangerous huh
would be better if it started spawning 100 commons with instant respawn timers.
I'll give Waifu credit, Actually has the balls to sit and beat the whole thing, even tried to beat it on expert
What I think would have been interesting is if you gave the boomer vomit a spitters acid affect so it does damage, AND spawns a hoard. Then also have it spray you in acid when it explodes on death. I wonder if that would have been more or less manageable dealing with these boomers along with the common infected.
Probably easier than the instant death you receive from them now. But probably more manageable on expert difficulty.

The original boomer from the l4d beta was supposed to vomit some damage instead of covering in vomit to attract the horde. Vomit can damage like acid vomit.
actually from what i understand only them exploding would damage the survivors, the vomit only blinded them during this time.

But wouldn't it be possible to modify the ''It'' timer so that it only last like 0.1 to 0.5 seconds but each application deals, I dunno, 20 Damage?
Would make it much more fun and not just a no-hit challenge.
Unfortunately there is no cvar for that
I was thinking something similar, making it so that while “it”, you take 2 damage per second. That way, being continuously boomed on will gradually wear down your health. Since one round of being “it” lasts 20 seconds, this would amount to at least 40 damage, and having the timer refreshed again and again could easily wear your health down to nothing in 50 seconds. I think on expert, it MIGHT be possible, but I’m not sure. (I know I’m a little late to the video, but wanted to leave my suggestion in case you ever wanted to try this challenge again. If you want another challenge idea, maybe make it so spitters spit grenade launcher projectiles?)
@@waifurunstv There is. It's called survivor_it_duration (I don't remember if it's hidden, but a mutation or mod can easily change hidden cvars regardless). I've personally changed this myself before so I know it works.

Question. Can't you make a property of "It" to be to remove being "It"?
L4d2 but you are trying to escape an anime convention.
On the "IT" property: The easiest way I could think of making the property function the way you wanted so that the damage does not have to be 100 to down someone would be having an added line of code that detects the timer of the IT property. Every time the IT property has 20 seconds added - and - the IT property is already present (e.g. every time you get boomed on while already it), the person who's timer went up takes (X) damage. So you could make the IT property being applied do a set amount of damage.
Then you could even have a difficulty modifier so that on easy it does less damage and on higher difficulties it does more.
On top of that, you could even do a thing where receiving "IT" on expert does 50 damage, giving you effectively two chances. If your timer gets set to 20 again, (or, you get boomed on after IT wears off), you die.
That would work but unfortunately I’m not entirely sure that’s how mutations work, if my understanding is correct all you can really do is adjust and edit existing cvars. And there aren’t any cvars pertaining to the IT property, so you can’t use it as an identifier

@@waifurunstv Actually there is a second thought. Does the attempted horde summoning count as a separate cvar? If it does, you could use the summon horde prompt as a second source of damage with a lower value. So getting boomed would deal it's damage + the horde spawn damage, but subsequent booms (While still blinded) would only deal the IT damage.
But that's only if "IT" doesn't already summon the horde as it is, I know it doesn't summon one if you are already IT though..

I think 'balance' in your eyes is : insta killing the survivor if they get it. I think the summoned common infected will be significantly stronger and deal more damage had you been boomed on.

Boomers can puke farther on expert. On Easy they have a 3 second reaction time and on Normal they have a 1 second reaction time. On Advanced and Expert they react instantly.
that dmc3 speedrunner saying that people who speedrun the normal catagory aren't good at the game is not just dickish but untrue. It is rare for a speedrun to be truly easy. Everytime i think i'm fast at a game i see a speedrun and they always put me in my place.

I was really interested in how you guys modded the boomers to become hard enemies but ended up being very disappointed in the outcome...
Instakill boomers isn't fun or interesting its just boring...
I would have been much more interested if they had health similar to a charger [maybe slightly more], their Melee attacks did substantial damage and their vomit attack was changed in an exotic way... Maybe their vomit could be more like an acid that would drain your health, The range much shorter, And does completely different modifiers to the player... No slowing effect, Distorts controls, Causes hallucinations [Fake Enemies that don't physically react or effect anything] and the effect stacks... [Maybe being vomited on causes boomer's AI to act much more aggressively]

Well because that’s not how mutations work you can only edit existing cvars, there is no cvar for an it timer

What if instead of an instant kill, you made it so that being puked on made the player take continuous damage for as long as they are "It" (Similar to being lit on fire or standing in spitter goo)
That would solve the issue of the vomit not being able to do more damage if the player is already "it".
